Longtime educator Joeta Youngblood tendered her resignation from the Pickens school board on Monday, Aug. 31, citing a move to a different district.

In a statement submitted to the Progress, Youngblood said, “I have enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity to serve the students and families of Pickens County. I have moved from District 2 to District 3. Due to this move I have regretfully

submitted my resignation to the Board of Education. I feel confident that Dr. [Rick] Townsend and the board will continue to work together to benefit the students, staff, and families of Pickens County.”

Board chair Tucker Green said Youngblood’s resignation came as a surprise to him and the rest of the board, who will be discussing next steps regarding a replacement at their regular meeting on Thursday, Sept. 10. The remaining board members – Tucker Green, Steve Smith, Sue Finley, and Donna Enis – will name a replacement to fill Youngblood’s unexpired term at some point in the near future.

Youngblood’s term ends December of 2022.

In January, Tommy Gartrell will replace Donna Enis on the board. Gartrell won the recent primary election for Enis’ seat.
