Macartney Reinhardt was selected to perform in Georgia Has Talent, an annual showcase of performers that also raises money for cancer research. The show will be held at Cherokee High  on March 7.

Staff reports

Pickens Junior High 8th grader Macartney Reinhardt has been selected as one of 20 contestants to perform in Georgia Has Talent in Canton.

Reinhardt, a vocalist, said she has known since a very young age that she wanted to be a singer.

“I realized I wanted to be a vocalist since I was five,” she said. “That’s when I started taking voice lessons. I want to be a pop country singer and sell out as many shows as Taylor Swift, and be an influencer.”

Reinhardt said Taylor Swift is by far her personal number one influence, followed by singer/songwriter Maren Morris.

In addition to voice lessons, she has been a student at the Music Authority in Cumming, Ga. where she learned to play with a full band. Prior to her experience at Music Authority she had “a little bit of stage fright,” but it helped her work through.

“It has really helped give me confidence to be on stage and help my stage presence,” she said.

Lately though, Reinhardt has been performing at headliner shows at Music Authority and open mics with her father, Josey, who backs her vocals with guitar.

She said she was surprised and excited when she found out she was selected for Georgia Has Talent, which will be held on Saturday, March 7 at Cherokee High School at 6 p.m. Contestants will compete for two awards – Audience Pick and Judge’s Pick. Audience members can “vote” for Reinhardt for $1 a vote, with proceeds going to support the Dana-Faber Cancer-Institute. The act chosen most talented by judges will be crowned Judge’s Pick. Guest judges are Miss Georgia USA Alyssa Beasley, Erin Kirby, Simone Lockhart, and Erica Gehring.

Purchase tickets or vote at www.georgiahastalent.org, where you will also find profiles of each contestant.

There will be a Georgia Has Talent pre-show at Maddio’s in Canton on Thursday, Feb. 27 from 5:30 – 8 p.m. Reinhardt will perform at the event, as well as four other contestants.
