2019 Legion of Character inductees and Optimists.

On May 20 the Optimist Club of Jasper announced the 2019 inductees into The Legion of Character. The purpose of creating the Legion of Character, now in its third year, is working together with the faculty of Jasper Junior High School in activities and programs throughout the year encouraging and supporting good citizenship and positive character traits in all PJHS students. Helping make all this possible have been Counselors Jana Champion and Elisha Roper.

Out of 743 students at Pickens Junior High School, 40 were selected from the 7th & 8th grades this year by the faculty to be inducted into the Legion of Character (LoC). During the induction at the school each of these students received a custom LoC T-Shirt and a pair of cool rubberized sunglasses. Among those on hand to congratulate these students were fellow Optimists Rob Jones, County Commissioner and Tucker Green, School Board Chairman as well as PJHS Principal Chadd Flatt.

PJHS students inducted are; 7th Grade – Lauren Bauer, Aaron Belins, Jordyn Blankenship, Mackenzie Bozeman, Emery Bryant, Hayden Callahan, Brett Cody, Jenna Gaddis, Anabelle Jordan, Kaylee King, Matthew Land, Trace Ledbetter, Gavin Manis, Meadow Palmer, Mackenzie Patterson, Julia Pfiel, Cole Stephens, Sigourney Waina, Nathan Wallace and Rosie Wittekind. 8th Grade – Emma Archer, Obie Belins, Stephanie Carlile, Bella Carterstone, Nicole Chuong, Karla Derrosa-Guerrero, Olivia Edwards, Mary Forrester, Will Hall, Kaelie Hooper, Mason Jordan, Holton Kaul, Johnathan Koonce, Isabel Lipscomb, Amber Moore, Alex Nix, Caitlin Quinton, Jeri Speights, Nolyn Weaver and Kelby Wells.

Following the induction members of the Optimist Club hosted inductees for an hour and a half of free time including a picnic pizza lunch with Optimist home-made cookies and brownies and playing a variety of outdoor games. This year’s inductees were also joined by current Legion of Character members.

At the conclusion of the free time, each Legion of Character inductee received a gift bag containing Kindness Revolution wristbands from Parish Lowrie State Farm Agency and coupons for free meals and treats from Jasper merchants including Culver’s, Dairy Queen, Zaxby’s, Buffalo Luke’s and Taco Bell. This celebration would not have been possible without also the generous support of Kroger and Papa John’s Pizza.

On the evening of May 21 as part of the PJHS Honors Programs, each 2019 Legion of Character inductee was presented with their Certificate of Outstanding Character. Additionally, the Optimist Club of Jasper is providing scholarship funds for Legion of Character students to attend PJHS field trips in the 2019-2020 school year.
