PHS Theatre’s spring musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone,” will be evaluated this Saturday on their opening night performance. The opening night is Saturday, March 16th at 7 p.m., held at Pickens High School’s Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students.

Fashioned after Broadway’s Tony Awards, the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards, also called Shuler Awards, celebrate excellence in high school musical theatre. The awards are named in honor of Georgia native Shuler Hensley, winner of the prestigious Tony Award, Outer Critics Circle Award, and Drama Desk

Award. The participants of “The Drowsy Chaperone” will have the chance to be nominated for a coveted award in over a dozen categories, including best actor/actress, best supporting actor/actress, direction, musical direction, choreography, lights, sound, scenic design, technical execution, and ensemble. The awards ceremony is held at the Cobb Energy Center and will be streamed live on April 18th at 8 p.m.

PHS Theatre would like to welcome everyone out to help support the cast and crew as they are evaluated on opening night. Can’t make it this weekend? While the Shuler judges will only be present for opening night, everyone else has three additional opportunities to see the show- Friday, March 22 at 7 p.m., and Saturday March 23 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.  For more information check the PHS Theater Facebook or contact Valerie Boehm at This email address is being protected from spambots.
