Axe murder trial underway in Pickens court

Defense says no body means no murder while prosecutor says accused admits he hit victim in head with axe

 

Byers-1The case against 34-year-old Christopher Byers accused of murdering his friend Ray Walnoha in 2014 opened Tuesday morning in Pickens County Superior Court. It is expected to continue through the week.

Byers, a resident of Gilmer County, has pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include malice murder, aggravated assault, concealing a body, and aggravated battery, among others. Law enforcement officials believe Byers murdered Walnoha sometime between July 10 and July 28th of 2014 at a residence on Cove Road in Jasper.
