Joyce Wheeler


Joyce Eubanks Wheeler, 84, of Canton, GA passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Cartersville Medical Center.  She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister and Aunt.  Joyce was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Ball Ground.  She was a piano teacher for many years.  

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., on Monday, August 31, 2020, from the Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Prance, Rev. Jerry Sims, Rev. Adam Parker and Rev. Tony Greene officiating. Interment followed in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband,  Kenneth Wheeler; parents,  Earl and Ruby Bobo Eubanks; infant sister,  JoAnne Eubanks; brother,  Wayne Eubanks; son,  Kenny Wheeler and son-in-law,  Kenny Tucker.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Telete Wheeler; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Vicki Wheeler; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Mark Livingood; daughter, Andrea Tucker; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Matt Lathem; brother, Benny Eubanks; sister-in-law, Frances "Tiny" Eubanks; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Bonnie Murray


Marion "Bonnie" Murray, 89, beloved wife of John R. Murray, formerly of Atlanta and Bent Tree, Jasper, died peacefully at her home in Longleaf, Pine Mountain, Georgia., on Tuesday, August 25, 2020. The daughter of Philip K. Sanders and Ruth Wells Sanders, she was born June 27, 1931 in Jacksonville, Florida.

After attending high school at North Avenue Presbyterian School, she graduated from Agnes Scott College as a music major specializing in the violin. Later she played with the Sharptop Strings Orchestra. She and John were married in Greensboro, North Carolina on December 26, 1954.  

Bonnie played tennis on an ALTA team and enjoyed playing bridge with friends. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Colonial Dames and attended the English-Speaking Union meetings. In Atlanta, she attended Peachtree Presbyterian Church and Wieuca Road Baptist Church. At Bent Tree, she was a member of Fellowship Presbyterian Church. Roper Funeral Home in Jasper is in charge of arrangements. Memorial gifts may be sent to Fellowship Presbyterian Church, 389 Bent Tree Drive, Jasper, GA  30143.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, John, and children, son, Philip Murray (Melinda) of Germantown, TN; daughter, Bonnie Diane Murray Sweat (Charles) of Pine Mountain, and son in law, Dr. Chris Sarzen of Dunwoody. She was predeceased by her daughter, Kathryn R. Murray Sarzen. Also surviving are grandsons, Sanders Murray, Michael Sarzen, Christopher Sarzen, Danny Sweat (Elizabeth Schultz), John Sweat, and David Sweat; granddaughters, Grayson Murray and Natalie Sarzen.

James Coleman


James Lee Coleman,72, of Jasper, Georgia, passed away Monday, August 24, 2020 at home surrounded by his daughter Ashley, her sweet Aunt Gwen, and her girls, Courtney and Cassidy and his special nurse, Sue. He was born March 3, 1948 to Charles William and Miriam Genell Coleman in Atlanta, Georgia. 

James was the proud owner of Coleman Painting and painted for more than 50 years. He was an avid fisherman and loved to fish in the streams and lakes of North Georgia. He enjoyed horseback riding and spending time at his farm with his horses, dog named Jasper; and cats, Socks and Sassy.

James is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Jason Socha of Orlando, Florida; son-in-law, Mitchell Baine of Kernersville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Courtney Sava, Morgan Socha, Cassidy Socha, Tiffany Baine, Brandon Baine; six great-grandchildren; niece, Stephanie Williams; special cousins, Patty and Joe; devoted employee and friend, Elmer Herreia; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and "Nell" Coleman; daughter,  Allison Baine; and brother, Larry Coleman.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 30, 2020 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Pastor Rusty Haradon officiating. A graveside service followed at Lake Forest Memorial Park.

Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.

Myra Turner


Myra Dalana Turner, 53, of Dawsonville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2020 in Cartersville.  She was born August 6, 1967 to Joe Turner and Carolyn Garrison.

Myra is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Courtney and Jacob Davis of Talking Rock, Hallie Johnson of Jasper, Brooke and A. J. Tinnermon of Charleston, South Carolina; son, Brad Drillot of Ellijay; grandchildren, Owen Darnell, Tanner Darnell, Kyler Davis, Oliver Tinnermon, Hazel Tinnermon, April Tinnermon, Mackenzie Rae Drillot; mother, Carolyn Garrison of Cartersville; sister, Joanna Turner of Cartersville; brother, Danny Crowe of Jasper; and sister, Janet Bowen of Powder Springs.  Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Jasper with Reverend Larry Stanaland officiating. Interment followed in the Alpharetta Cemetery in Alpharetta.

Willene Teague

April 1, 1932 - August 29, 2020


Mrs. Willene Teague, 88, of Fairmount passed away Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Grandview Healthcare Center. 

Mrs. Teague is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Edwin and Desirie Teague of Canton, Brad and Linda Teague of Marietta and Jeff and Janet Teague of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Nina and Don Mckee of Fairmount; daughter, Paula Teague of Fairmount; sisters and brothers-in-law, Scottie and Jimmy Knight of Calhoun and Peggy and Charles Craig of Calhoun. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Willene is preceded in death by her husband, Luke Teague; brother, Garland Foster and sister, June Temples.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, August 31, 2020 in the Cagle Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Reggie Temples and Rev. David Temples officiating. 

Pallbearers: Justin Thompson, Don Luke McKee, Alex Teague, Jonathan Teague, Ethan Teague and Tim Foster.  

Interment was at Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery immediately following the funeral services.

J.R. Payne

December 10, 1931 - August 28, 2020

Mr. John "J.R." Robert Payne, 88, of Talking Rock, passed away Friday, August 28, 2020 at Cobb Tranquility Hospice after declining health.

Mr. Payne was born in Gordon County, GA to Dewey G. and Lydia Cochran Payne on December 10, 1931. Mr. Payne was a veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Grace Winkler and brothers, Marvin and H.B. Payne.

Survivors are his sister, Evelyn Weatherington of Carrollton, GA; brothers, Paul Payne of Morganton, GA, James Payne of The Villages, FL, Hugh Payne of New Port, NC, Thomas Payne of Ellijay, GA and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be scheduled for a later date at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Jasper, GA.

James Davis

June 12, 1942 - August 26, 2020

Mr. James Clyde Davis, 78, of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at his residence.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Barbara Davis of Jasper; son, Justin Scott Davis of Marietta; daughters and son-in-law, Carin Michele & Mickey Duncan of Jasper and Stacey Davis of Ellijay; brothers, Elijah Davis of Ellijay and Douglas Davis of Ellijay; grandchildren, Ellyn Duncan and Jemma Daisey Davis; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his brothers, J.P. and Bobby Davis.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2020 in the chapel of Cagle Funeral Home, with Rev. Leroy Kelley and Rev. Steve Chadwick officiating.

Interment was held at Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery, following the funeral service.

Pallbearers: Jerry Garren, Jeff Stites, Ron Beavers, Ron Hampton, Gene Wympey, Jerry Ramsey and Terry Ramsey. Honorary pallbearer: Terrell Ramsey.
