Sheila Thomas


Sheila “Laquita” Chapman Thomas, 88, of Jasper, GA died August 11, 2020 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital. Graveside funeral services were held on August 14 at Little Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery at 11 a.m. Rev. Mark Poole officiated. 

Mrs. Thomas was born on December 1, 1931 to the late Marvis and Irma Chapman. She grew up in Macon County, GA near the town of Ideal. Mrs. Thomas graduated from Ideal High School. She attended Bessie Tift Baptist College and also attended a business school in Macon, Georgia. She was a good provider for her family Robby and Pam; a loving wife, mother, and friend. She was a devoted Christian and loved to spread the word of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ronald Thomas and son, Robert (Robby) Chapman Studdard. 

She moved to Jasper in September of 2018 into assisted living, The Retreat at Jasper, to be closer to her daughter. She developed wonderful friends with the residents and the staff of The Retreat.

Survivors include her daughter, Pam Studdard Fredebeil of Jasper, GA, a step-son, Joel Thomas and a step-daughter, JoBeth Matchett, both of Newnan, GA, her grandchildren, Carly Chapman Wood, Miami, FL Sara H. Jenkins Fredebeil (Chris), Cleveland, GA, Heidi Fredebeil and Matthew Hill (Crystal), both of Flowery Branch, GA, several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those desiring may make contributions in memory of Mrs. Thomas to The American Lung Association, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Covid Research.

Sybil Crider


Mrs. Sybil Diane Crider, 65, of Fairmount GA, departed this life on August 13th, 2020 at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital after a month-long battle with COVID-19. She was born May 22nd, 1955, a daughter of the late Homer Lonis and Geraldine Guyndelin Hightower Mathews. She was also preceded in death by grandparents, Henry W. and Angie Dean Hightower and Harrison and Ola Higdon Mathews, an infant brother, and brothers Charles Kenneth “Rosey” Mathews and Jerry Norman “Lum” Mathews.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Steve Crider Sr., sons and daughter-in-law, Steve Crider Jr. and Victoria Crider of Suwanee, GA, Matthew Daniel Crider of Fairmount, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald “Goat” and Deborah Mathews of Ludville, GA, Randy Joe “Boo Boo” and Cheryle Mathews of Fairmount, GA, James “Flute” and Patricia Mathews of Cartersville, GA, Tim “Waldo” Mathews of Calhoun, GA, Gene “Bull” and Sherry Mathews of Jasper, GA, Ann Mathews of Plainville, GA; sisters and brother-in-law, Sandra and David Burch of Fairmount, GA, Gail Burch of Florence, SC, Karen and Tony Cannon of Plainville, GA; grandchildren, Naomi Crider and Bowen Crider; several nieces and nephews.

Sybil will be remembered for her 20 years of service as a family advocate at Fairmount Elementary School. She selflessly served and loved her family and community with all her heart leaving a positive impact on countless lives. In her spare time she enjoyed playing music, painting, cooking, and creating memories with her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Sybil’s legacy will continue through the lives she touched.

Graveside services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Sybil Crider were held Monday, August 17, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Reggie Temples officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Coulter Hampton Foundation, online at or through mail at P.O. Box 1334, Calhoun, GA 30703.

Steve Mabry


Mr. Steve Mabry, 77, of Ellijay, GA passed away Wednesday August 12, 2020.

Mr. Mabry was born April 17, 1943 in Pickens County to the late Ernest Mabry and Edna Spears Mabry. He was in the National Guard, a deacon of the Ebenezer Baptist Church and worked for Bent Tree as a water plant operator. He is preceded in death by parents and his wife, Melba Reece Mabry.

SurvivorsiInclude his son and daughter in-law, Joe and Lisa Mabry, of Canton, GA; daughter and son in-law, Jill and Branson Chastain, of Ellijay, GA; sister, Linda McGhee, of Jasper, GA; sister in-law, Suelle Austin, of Milledgeville, GA; 3 grandchildren, Luke Mabry, Aliza Chastain and Andrew Chastain, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 15th at 4 p.m. from the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Michael Cantrell officiating. Music by  Gwen McArthur, Kent Reece, Aliza Chastain and the congregation led by Darrell Jones. Pallbearers” Branson Chastain, Joe Mabry, Luke Mabry, Andrew, Tommy Smith, Dale Cochran, Rob Palmier. Honorary pallbearers: Waldin Martin, Paul Nealey, Hartscel Chastain and Gene Warren.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery Fund at 84 River Ridge Ellijay, GA 30536 in memory of Mr. Mabry.

AnnaBelle Trudeau


AnnaBelle Canzada Trudeau, 71, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2020 at Pruitt Health in Lafayette, Georgia.  She was born July 11, 1949 to Clyde and Evelyn Pittman in Jasper, Georgia.  

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Tracy Aragon of Fort Mohave, Arizona; son, Robert Liptrap of Mohave, Arizona; sister, Kathy Young of Dalton, Georgia; grandchildren, Jennifer Dare, Michael Aragon, Alexis Aragon, Katie Liptrap, Melody Liptrap, Amy Liptrap, Kristy Liptrap, Stevie Liptrap, Lanette Liptrap, Robert Liptrap II; great-grandchildren, Kylee, Braydan, Maddison; nieces and nephews, Tabitha, Storm, and Faith.  She was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Liptrap.

Orene Outland

August 10, 1931 - August 15, 2020


Mrs. Orene Outland, 89, of Talking Rock, formerly of Niceville, FL, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Sonshine Manor Personal Care Home.

Orene is survived by her son, Leslie Johnson of Lawter, FL; daughter, Patricia Duncan of Talking Rock; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Orene was preceded in death by her son, Hardy Lee Johnson.

Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Monday, August 17, 2020 in the chapel of Cagle Funeral Home, with Rev. Harold Violet officiating.

Interment will be Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Antioch Cemetery in Bruce, FL.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donate to New Life Apostolic Church building fund or The Alzheimer's Association.

Colin Becker


Colin Michael Becker, 89, of Jasper, Georgia, passed away on August 13, 2020 after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. 

Mike was born on April 6, 1931 to Albert and Joan Becker in London, England. In his youth, he raced both bicycles and motorcycles throughout Europe. He served in the Royal Air Force during the Korean War before deciding to move to the United States in 1953, where he then served in the United States Air Force, and eventually became a citizen in 1960. 

In 1955, he met Ruby Agnew at an ice skating rink in Atlanta, Georgia. They were married in 1957 and had three daughters. They raised their family in Stone Mountain before retiring to Bent Tree. Mike spent his retirement traveling the world and enjoying his life in the north Georgia mountains. His favorite things included good food, red wine, children, and dogs. 

Mike was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Joan Becker and his brother Roger Becker. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruby; his daughters, Tonya Erick, Michelle Robinette, and Latricia Holland; his grandchildren, LaChelle Neudorfer, Kane Overton, Kyle Holland, Hayley Holland, Jessie Robinette, and John-Michael Robinette; and his great grandchildren, Sierra Neudorfer, Trevor Neudorfer, Michael Overton, Shelby Overton, Natalia Holland, and Lucy Holland. 

Mike’s family would like to thank the staff of Piedmont Mountainside Hospital for their care and support. No ceremony will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Georgia Mountain Hospice in Mike’s name.

Michael Byrd


James Michael Byrd, 20, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Monday, August 10, 2020 at WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.    

He was born April 14, 2000 to James Marcus Byrd and Terrie Melissa Davis in Cobb County.  Michael was a 2018 graduate of Pickens High School.

Michael is survived by his mother and step-father, Terrie and Troy Davis of Jasper; father, Mark Byrd of Marietta; siblings, Christopher Neese of Woodstock, Melissa Ashcraft of Talking Rock, Marcus Byrd of Talking Rock; grandparents, Sylvia Feeser of Jasper, Reginald and Carolyn Byrd of Marietta; nieces and nephews, Jonah Ashcraft, Gracelynn Ashcraft, and Austyn Garcia.  Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.  

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Reverend Thomas Shipman and Reverend Larry Stanaland officiating. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Christopher Neese, Marcus Byrd, Chandler Harrington, Justin Dillard, Colby McDowell, and Eric Dingman.

The family accepted flowers or memorial contributions may be made to Roper Funeral Home & Crematory.
