Lionel Hobson


Mr. Lionel David Hobson, 89, of Wetumpka, Alabama formerly of Roopville, Georgia passed away on December 31, 2019 at the Prattville Health and Rehab.  

He was the son of James Hobson and Stella Cook Hobson. Mr. Hobson was born and raised in north Georgia near Talking Rock. He served for a short time in the US Army. After his retirement from Lockheed Martin, he founded and owned Hobson Heating and Air in Marietta, Georgia.  

He is survived by several family members including his wife, Linda Hobson.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2020 at the Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery with Harry J. Brown officiating.  

The family request in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory of Jasper.


Gwen Dasher


Gwen Elaine Dasher, 72, of Jasper,  passed away Monday, December 30, 2019 at Heritage Hospice in Marietta, Georgia. She was born February 22, 1947 to Adalard Joseph and Joyce Eva Dupuis in Portsmith, Virginia. 

She is survived by her daughter, Robin Dasher Simpson of Jasper, Georgia; son, Brian Dasher of Tallahassee,  Florida; sister, Dawn Hill of Virginia Beach, Virginia; grandchildren, Wesley Simpson, Jacob Simpson, and Keith Dasher.

A graveside service was held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Valdosta with Deacon Paul Worth officiating.   

Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.

Doris Hendrix

July 14, 1931 - January 7, 2020


Mrs. Eloise Hendrix, 88, of Jasper, passed away Tuesday January 7, 2020 at Wildwood Health Care.

Mrs. Hendrix is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Frankie McDaniel of Jasper; daughter, Sandra Ingram of Jasper; sister-in-law, Jan Roper of Jasper; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation is Wednesday, January 8, from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Thursday, January 9, from 8 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday January 9, 2020 at Corinth Baptist Church, with Rev. Richie Gibbs, Rev. Leroy Kelley, Rev. Cody Ingram and Rev. Huey Holloway officiating.

Interment will be at the church cemetery following the funeral service.

Pallbearers: Cody Ingram, Cory West, Terry West, James Abbott, Tristan Abbott, Tony Kellogg, Brayden Willingham, Mason Crook and Carter West.

The family will accept flowers or donations can be made to Corinth Baptist Church.

Elizabeth Gahan

November 17, 1944 - December 26, 2019

Mrs. Elizabeth Gahan, 75, of Jasper, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2019 at her residence.

Mrs. Gahan is survived by her husband, Richard Gahan; step-sons, Daniel Gahan of IL and Jeff Bjelland of IL; brother, Michael Gordon Hollingsworth Sr. of CA; nephew, Michael Gordon Hollingsworth Jr.; niece, Tracy Casdorph of CA.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Florence Freeborn

November 24, 1927 - January 3, 2020


Mrs. Florence H. Freeborn, 92, of Jasper, passed away Friday, January 3, 2020 at her residence.

Mrs. Freeborn is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Donald Jr. and Emma Mae Freeborn of Royal Palm Beach, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Diane Freeborn Squires and Jeff Squires of Jasper; four grandchildren, David Squires, Matthew Squires, Derek Freeborn and Heather Monroe; four great-grandchildren; niece, Nina Scullin; nephew, Michael McAdams.

Visitation is Friday, January 24, from 4 p.m. until the memorial service hour.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2020 at the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home, with Rev. Ben Mock officiating.

Interment of cremains will be at Georgia National Cemetery on Friday, January 31, 2020. The time will be announced soon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, in honor of Mrs. Freeborn.

George Wohlwend


George “Dick” Wohlwend, a 20-year resident of Big Canoe, passed away on Tuesday, December 17 at Chestnut Ridge Nursing Home in Cumming. He was born in Rogersville, TN on February 22, 1940 to Eula Kate Armstrong and John Steele Wohlwend.

Dick is survived by Patsy, his wife of 38 years; three daughters, Amy Bradley of Cartersville, Ga., Kelli Carter of Jasper and Dlynn Ticer (Jay) of Chamblee, Ga. and stepson, Ryan Moore of Hilton Head, SC.

He is also survived by brothers Pat Wohlwend (Donna) of Kennewick, WA, Peter Wohlwend (Beth) of Oak Ridge, NC and sister, Anne Jones (Bob) of Spring Hill, TN; and granddaughters Lindsey McGregor, Perri (Jesse) McGregor Walker, Lenaya Carter, and grandsons Brody Ticer, Sam Ticer and Thomas Moore.

Dick attended Georgia Tech and had a 35-year career with Georgia Power Company in Atlanta. He was an avid “car guy” having bought his first car when he was 14. That interest translated in the late 80s into a love of British MGs starting with his longtime driver, a 1969 MGB. He and Patsy were members of the Peachtree MG Registry Club and the Southeastern M.G.T. Register. He served as president of the Peachtree Registry, attended many club meetings, British car shows, touring events and even restored a 1959 MGA Coupe from the ground up which brought a first-place plaque at the MGA National Car Show that year.

A graveside service is planned in the future at the Georgia National Veterans Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.


Betty Sitten

May 28, 1938 - January 1, 2020


Betty Ray Sitten, 81, of Talking Rock, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2020.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2019 at Talking Rock Baptist Church, with Brother David Jones, Rev. Jason Phillips and Rev. Buck Parker officiating.

Interment was at the church cemetery following the funeral service.

A lifelong resident of Pickens County, Mrs. Sitten worked for LCI Rubber Company where she retired. She was loved by many, and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved visiting her and spending time with her and at the creek. She was referred to as "Granny" and loved by all.

Survivors include her three children, Gary (Stacy) Sitten of Newnan, Angie (James) Tramell of Winder and Greg Sitten of Talking Rock; nine grandchildren, David (Mandy) Sitten of Kennesaw, Bryan Sitten of Acworth, Kara (Graham) Turner of Sharpsburg, Caleb Sitten of Bowling Green, KY, Josh Tramell of Winder, Jeremiah Tramell of Winder, Joshua (Katelyn) Kessinger of Eagle River, AK, Jessica Kessinger of Newnan and Jacob (Jasmin) Kessinger of Newnan; nine great-grandchildren, Abby Sitten, Grady Sitten, Ian Sitten, David Sitten, Dallas Turner, Priscilla Turner, Charleston Sitten, Ella Kessinger and Ellie Kessinger; brothers, Howard (Joanna) Ray of Jasper and Edward Ray of Talking Rock; sister, Linda Tenney of Talking Rock. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Pallbearers: Jeremiah Tramell, Josh Tramell, Bryan Sitten, Greg Sitten, Caleb Sitten, Jeff Whitfield, Jacob Kessinger and Graham Turner.
