Darla Huffman


Darla Huffman, 83, of Talking Rock, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2019 at home with family by her side.

Darla retired and built a home in the area in 2006.  She joined Master Gardeners and promoted the Jasper Farmers Market for years by writing a weekly article in the Pickens County Progress.  She enjoyed gardening, pottery and teaching yoga.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Nola Fulfer.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Juandalee and Bob Titshaw of Marietta; daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and John McConnell of Luthersville; son, Harold Huffman of Talking Rock; and daughter, Janet Smith of Talking Rock; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a niece and nephew.  

A small private memorial service is planned by the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pickens County Animal Shelter at 3563 Camp Road; Jasper, GA  30143 or 706-253-8983.

Georgia Chastain


Georgia Lee Chastain, 85, of Talking Rock, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Seasons Hospice in Cumming, Georgia.

Mrs. Chastain is survived by her husband of 70 years, Wade Chastain of Talking Rock; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Dendia Chastain of Talking Rock; daughter and son-in-law, Colette and Don Grogan of Spring Hill, Tennessee; daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Mark Anderson of Stockbridge; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Ann Chastain of Ellijay; grandchildren, John Marshall  and Nicole Caylor of Ball Ground,  Crystal and Michael Dale of Braselton, Justin Shuler of Stockbridge, Renae Chastain of Ellijay, Thomas Chastain of Ellijay; brother, Arvil Kelley; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Geri Kelley.  Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.  

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at the Ludville Church of God with Reverend Jared Raines, Reverend Bill Tatum, and Reverend Jerrold Young officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Flowers are being accepted or donations can be made to the Ludville Church of God Building Fund in Georgia's name.

Pamela Pickett


Pamela Michelle Pickett, 35, of Chattanooga, Tennessee passed away Monday, May 20, 2019 at her home.  

Pamela is survived by her mother, Jane Maddox of Jasper;  father, Joe Pickett of Tate; brothers, Thad Pickett of Jasper, Joseph Pickett of Jasper; sister, Paula Pickett of Jasper; and boyfriend, Jeremy Hannah of Chattanooga.  Several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.

A memorial service was  held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2019 in the chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend David Stuart and Reverend Gerald Faulkner officiating.

Richard Naylor

May 9, 1938 - May 26, 2019


Richard R. Naylor, 81, of Talking Rock passed away early Sunday morning at his home in Talking Rock, GA. He was born in Duryea, Pennsylvania to Kenneth & Edith Naylor, and was moved to Bingington, NY where he started his long career of 32 1/2 years with IBM working in various locations before retiring as a Senior Purchasing Agent in Atlanta. He and Louise purchased a small farm in Talking Rock and he began the long process of renovating the old farmstead, where he lived at his death. His favorite pastime was watching all the many rescued horses, dogs and cats playing from his chair.

Richard is survived by his wife, Louise Nelson; daughter, Cara Naylor and step-daughter, Sherri Trones, all of Talking Rock. Another beloved daughter, Tricia Naylor, preceded him in death. He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth Naylor from Friendsville, Pennsylvania. Richard also left behind a dedicated companion, his dog Meli, a German Shepherd. On the day of his death, Meli sat outside and howled. She knew he was leaving us.

Richard served in the Army Reserves in the late 1950s and was a member of Fraternal Order of Masons, a 31 degree level before taking a dimit.

His wishes were to be cremated and his ashes spread over his beautiful farm. No services will be held, and in lieu of flowers donations could be made to Georgia Equine Rescue League, one of Richards favorite non-profits: P.O. Box 328, Bethlehem, GA 30620

Deborah Bays

Deborah Sue Bays, 63, of Waynesboro, VA, died Monday, May 20, 2019 at the University of Virginia Medical Center.  She was born Sept. 16, 1955 in Indiana, the daughter of Kermit R. and Irene Ella (Toth) Fitz.

She was preceded in death by a brother David Alan Fitz. Survivors include her husband William S. Bays; a son William Scott Bays of Waynesboro; a daughter Adrienne Marie Barker and husband Justin of Waynesboro and mother-in-law Edna Bays.

A graveside service was conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2019 at Augusta Memorial Park.

Catherine Norrell

June 29, 1936 - May 26, 2019


Mrs. Catherine Teresa Norrell, 82, of Jasper, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Pruitt Healthcare in Jasper.

Mrs. Norrell is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Eddy and Ann Duncan of Jasper; son, Teddy Duncan of Jasper; grandchildren, Ashley, Christopher, Dane, Dalton and Dorian; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved pet Gizmo.

Catherine is preceded in death by her husband, Eric Norrell.
