Brian White

June 12, 1959 - November 29, 2018


Brian P. White, MD, 59, of Jasper, GA, died November 29, 2018. Brian was born and raised in Elizabeth NJ. He graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Elizabeth. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at South Dakota State University, his Master of Science in Pharmacodynamics and Toxicology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and his Doctor of Medicine at the University of South Dakota School of Medicine. Dr. White was an intern in internal medicine at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, and completed residency in anesthesiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and the University of Kansas School of Medicine.

Dr. White was Board Certified in Addiction Medicine and in Anesthesiology.

He founded Hope Springs Wellness and Recovery, LLC, with offices in Marietta,Cartersville, and Ellijay. Brian had an extraordinary passion for helping those in need through compassion and care.

Brian is survived by many people he loved and who loved him, including his precious, devoted wife, Robyn Fuquea White; father, Patrick T. White (Patricia) of Brevard, NC; sisters, Celeste White of Lakewood, CO, and Mary White of Philipsburg, NJ; brother, Patrick M. White of Rahway, NJ; his nephews, Jeffrey Florzcak and Patrick J. White; his nieces, Bethany White and Alexis R. Bramblett; his mother-in-law, Karen Gentry Vick; his brother-in-law, Monte Holcomb; and his cousin, Tom Decker (Janet) of Savannah, GA, who was like a brother to him. Brian was predeceased by his daughter, Emily Elizabeth, and his mother, Elizabeth White.

Brian would light up a room with his smile and had an infectious laugh. He had an uncanny ability to engage everyone with whom he came into contact and make them feel special.

Brian immeasurably impacted the lives of those that loved him. The great many friends and family he leaves behind celebrate his immense joy of hunting, fishing, travel, music and fine arts. His memory will be forever cherished.

The memorial service was held at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home on Friday, December 7, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Dr. Bob Butler officiatee.

Joan Bruce

Joan Porter Bruce, 98, formerly of Jasper, GA, passed peacefully from this life into the next on Saturday, December 1, 2018 in Big Rapids, MI.

Joan was born October 2, 1920, on a farm near Dalton, GA. She was the fourth of 12 children born to Alpheus E. and Ellen (Huggins) Porter.

Joan spent her working life in service to others; in restaurants, hospitals, nursing homes, department stores, and on the family farm; though she occasionally remarked that the farm was her least favorite job.

Joan was a true "people person" and was happiest when helping others. She was a wonderful cook and often prepared huge meals enjoyed by anyone who "happened" to stop by.

Joan married C.J. Bruce on October 30, 1948 and they made their home in South Georgia near Savannah, returning to North Georgia and the Jasper area after retirement. In 2003 she moved to Big Rapids, MI to live with her daughter Brenda.

Joan was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, CJ Bruce; her parents AE and Ellen Porter; eight siblings, Reuben Porter, Willie Mae Bingham, Mary Lou Terry, Walter Porter, Evelyn Ownbey, Ora Lee Adkins, Herbert Porter, and Arthur Porter; and grandchild Rebecca Miolen.

She is survived by her son James Miolen (Patricia), of Newnan, GA; daughter Dorothy Mullinax (D.W.) of Jasper, GA; daughter Brenda Kailing (August) of Big Rapids, MI; sisters Ollie Ogle and Betty Bedwell of Dalton, GA, and Lydia Bishop (David) of Hixson, TN; grandchildren Paula Davis, Oasis Davis, and Karmayne North of Newnan, GA, Ricky Mullinax and David Mullinax (Michele) of Jasper, GA, Benjamin Walworth of Big Rapids, MI, Bethany Hinson (Michael) of Palm Harbor, FL, and Alison Kailing of Big Rapids, MI; great-grandson Sam Mullinax (Kristin) of Jasper, GA, Daniel Mullinax of Jasper; great-great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Mullinax, Alexander Mullinax; and many nieces and nephews.

Joan was a member of the Church of Christ, attending regularly until poor health kept her home. She remained a "prayer warrior" until "the good Lord decides it's time."

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 8th at 2 p.m., with Sam Mullinax officiating. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Jasper.

Edna Hammontree

Edna Reavis Hammontree, 84, of Ball Ground, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Pruitt Healthcare in Jasper.  She was born August 14, 1934 to Olen and Isabelle Reavis.  She worked as a Paraprofessional in the Pickens County School System for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Hammontree of Ball Ground; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Mike Gibbons of Ball Ground; grandson, Charlie Gibbons; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mrs. Hammontree was preceded in death by her two sons, Bryan Hammontree and Danny Hammontree.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 7, 2018 at Free Hope Baptist Church with Reverend Johnny McPherson officiating. Interment followed the funeral in the Free Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.  Grandson, Charlie Gibbons will play Amazing Grace on the trumpet at the graveside.

The family accepted flowers or donations in Edna's honor may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association at PO Box 97075 - Washington, DC  20090.

Dorothy Roberson

September 20, 1927 - December 5, 2018


Mrs. Dorothy M. Roberson, 91, of Marble Hill, passed away December 5, 2018 at the Sunshine Manor on Tails Creek Road, in Ellijay.

Mrs. Roberson is survived by her sons, Jerry Roberson of Marble Hill, and Jody Roberson of Marble Hill; daughters and sons-in-law: Andrea and Wayne Castillo, San Antonia, Texas; Beth and Eddie Spears of Cedartown; and Lauri Roberson and Louis Carpentier from Marble Hill. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. And several nieces and nephews.

Pall Bearers: Jerry Roberson, Dillion Roberson, Wesley Roberson, Jessie Duckett, Luke Silvers and Matt Martin.

Funeral service were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Cagle Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Phillip Burt and Rev Harold Bottoms, officiating.

Internment was held at Long Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery immediately following the service.

Leila Holcomb

February 15, 1924 - December 3, 2018


Mrs. Leila M. Holcomb, 94, of Jasper, passed away December 3, 2018 at her residence in the Hill City Community.

Mrs. Holcomb is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael & Elaine Parks of Hill City Community; daughter, Shirley Fambrough of Hill City Community; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Jim Wiley of Ashburn, GA; sister, Bonnie Pierce of Hickory Flat. Also, 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 6 at Cagle Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Townsend, officiating.

Pall Bearers: Wesley Sultan, Shane Moss, Matthew Parks, Elliott Byers, Jamie Wiley, and Larry Mulkey.

Internment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.

Mary Brown 

Mary Ann Brown, 83, of Nelson, passed away December 7, 2018 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper.

Survivors include daughter, Patty Brown of Jasper; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Albert Hamrick of Jasper, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Brown.

Funeral service were held Monday, December 10, 2018 in the Roper Funeral Home Chapel at 4 p.m. with Reverend Larry Johnson and Reverend Carter Payne officiating. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

Joe Southerland

July 16, 1944 - December 10, 2018


Mr. Joe Southerland, 74, of Talking Rock, passed away Monday, December 10, 2018 at Northside Hospital Cherokee.

Mr. Southerland is survived by his wife, Wilma Southerland of 55 years; son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Nicole Southerland of Talking Rock; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Jo and Michael Young of Jasper; sisters, Betty Rittenberry of Whitestone and Jackie Davis of Hendon, West Virginia; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 12, from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Thursday, December 13, from 8 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, December 13 in the Cagle Funeral Chapel. Rev. Rev Kenny Green and Rev. Tracy Welchel officiating. 

Pallbearers: Shane Bateman, James Wright, Donnie Fountain, Jimmy Ray, Travis Davis, and Eric Southerland.

Honorary Pallbearers: Greg Chastain and Herman Hollingshead. 

Internment will be in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens immediately following the funeral services.

In lieu of flowers the family will be accepting donations.

Lulu Morris

Lulu Elaine Sprouse Morris, 82, of Cox's Mills, WV, formerly of Normantown, WV, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ  on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at her residence on Garfield Run Road with her loving husband and daughters by her side.

She was born February 24, 1936 in Lockney, WV, daughter of the late Edgar Lytle & Hazel Grimes Sprouse.

In 1959 Elaine met the love of her life at a bakery, where she was employed in Belpre, OH. On June 11th of that year they were united in marriage and she enjoyed 59 years of marriage to Roy Morris Jr. who survives at their Cox's Mills Home.

After the birth of her youngest child, Elaine enrolled at Glenville State College where she earned a degree in teaching. She started her teaching career at Spencer Elementary School in 1971 and after 1 year found a job at Burnsville Elementary School, which was closer to the family home on Dusk Camp. Elaine would go on to teach at Sand Fork and Normantown Elementary Schools before her retirement in 1998.

Elaine and Roy spent much of their retirement life on the road. They were known to be gallivanting around the community late into the night. They got to fulfill a lifelong dream by driving to the west coast of the United States  and seeing all the sites between there and West Virginia. They also had many road trips to Georgia to visit their daughter, with their last trip in July of 2018.

Elaine was a Baptist by faith and member of the Dawson Baptist Church. In her spare time, Elaine enjoyed caring for all her animals, homemaking, gardening, cooking, spending time with family and friends, and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren whenever possible.

Surviving are three daughters, Mary Frye and husband Tony of Cox's Mills, WV; Rhonda Roland and husband Jeff of Ranger, GA; and Stephanie James and husband Doug of Roanoke, WV;  15 grandchildren, Michelle Greenwood (Adam) of Snellville, GA; Ronald Lee Morris of Loganville, GA; Melissa Ulysse  (Josue) of Lawrenceville, GA;  Heather Murphy and Haley Murphy of Calhoun, GA; Kirk Murphy of NY; Dustin Murphy (Carrie) of Ball Ground, GA; David Frye and Brandi Frye of Cox's Mills, WV; Rob James of Fairmont, WV; Shirania James and Samantha  Sevcik of Weston, WV; and Alex, John and  Kira James of Roanoke, WV; and  11 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Alex, Jamie Greenwood all of Snellville, GA; LJ, Jasmine, and Miah all of Lawrenceville,  GA; Rowen and Eden Murphy of Jasper, GA; Lula Kernea, and Wyatt Murphy of Calhoun GA; and Laurel Murphy of Ball Ground, GA.

She is also survived by several sisters and brothers: Janice Hendershot of Sand Fork, Verle Sprouse of Normantown, Corlis (Randy) Stump of Normantown., Eileen (Mike) Richardson of Spencer, WV; Janette (Dave)Ramezan of Sand Fork, WV; Sharon (Doyle) Zirkle of Mabie,  WV; Stephen (Carol) Sprouse, Kenneth Sprouse & Colin Sprouse all of Normantown, WV; 2 sister-in-laws,  Marty Morris and Shirley Morris of Marietta, OH; & numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, great nephews, and other family and friends, all of whom she loved very much..

Along with her parents, Elaine is preceded in death by two children, Scott Edgar and Ronald Lee Morris, brothers, Delmas and Roger Sprouse, infant brother, Calvin Leon Sprouse, and sisters , Betty Jenkins and Arlene Carol Harper.

A funeral service was conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV 26351 at 2 p.m., Sunday, December 2 with Elder Richard Westfall and Elder Mike Richardson officiating. Burial followed in the Turner Cemetery near Lockney, WV.

Sandy Lowe

August 10, 1953 - December 9, 2018


Ms. Sandy Boswell Lowe, 65, of Jasper, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Wildwood Health Care in Ludville.

Sandy is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Shannon and Tina Bozeman of Canton, Jordan & Lauren Lowe of Canton and son, Nicholas Lowe of Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Susan Boswell, Jasper; sister and brother-in-law, Donna & Tony Kennedy of Jasper and sister, Stacy Boswell of Jasper; also five grandchildren, Travis, Kelsey, Zayden, Harper and Macy. Several nieces and nephews also survive. 

Visitation will begin Wednesday, December 12 at 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Thursday, December 13, from 8 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 13, at 2 p.m. in the Cagle Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Josh Turner officiating.

Interment will be at Jasper City Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. 

In lieu of flowers, donate to Wildwood Health Care or Pickens County Humane Society.

Ernest Grimes

Ernest Walter Grimes, 80, of Ellijay passed away Friday, November 7, 2018 at Sonshine Manor in Ellijay. 

Survivors include his son and daughter-in law, Michael and Lynn Grimes of Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Phillip Davenport Jr. of Ellijay, Celeste and Kelly McGhee of Ellijay; brother, Jack Grimes of Alpharetta; sister, Sue Bryson of Alpharetta, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Levi and Eula Grimes and brother, Winford Grimes.

Funeral services were held in the chapel of Roper Funeral Home, Monday, December 10 at 2 p.m. with Reverend Vernie Worley and Reverend Billy Dotson officiating. Internment followed at Lake Forest Memorial Park. 

The family accepted flowers or contributions can be made to Georgia Mountains Hospice, 70 Caring Way, Jasper, GA 30143 or Homestead Hospice, 10888 Crabapple Road, Roswell, GA 30075 in honor of Mr. Grimes.

Michael Boling

Michael Boling, 66, of Ball Ground, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018 at his home. He was born November 17, 1952 to Willie and Pearl Boling in Pickens County.  

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Boling of Ball Ground; daughter, Tina Boling of Ball Ground; son, Steven Boling of Canton; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Robert Reece of Canton; sisters-in-law, Connie Gonyea of Canton, Judy Mulkey of Cumming,  Joann Reeves of Woodstock; brothers-in-law, Robbie Banks of Gainesville, Jack Wimpy of Canton; grandchildren, Dylan McCoy, Olivia McCoy, Kamri McCoy; great-grandchild, Lucas Daniel McCoy.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m.,  Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Winston Mulkey  officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
