Louise O’Bryant

Louise O’Bryant, 88, of Jasper, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018. 

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2018 at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family received friends on Monday at Sosebee Funeral Home. 

Louise was a member of Ophir Baptist Church and was a nurse for 30 years. She loved cooking and helping others. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard O’Bryant. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and John R. Pool, Melodie and Larry Reece and grandson, John A. Pool and Elizabeth Pool. 

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Jasper United Methodist Church, 85 W. Church Street, Jasper, GA. 30143 or the Cherokee County Humane Society, 5900 Bells Ferry Rd., Acworth, GA. 30102

Minnie Wigington

Minnie Lee Chumley Wigington, 95, of Dawsonville passed away Tuesday October 2, 2018 at Grandview Health Care Center following a period of declining health.

Born December 25, 1922 to the late John Henry and Martha Chumley, she had been a resident of Dawsonville for most of her life. Minnie was a member of Amicalola Baptist Church and for many years was known as “The Avon Lady” in the area. She was a well known and very talented seamstress who specialized in alterations and helped many local families. A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, she left this life with spirit. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Wigington, grand-daughter, Valerie B. Burgess and a number of siblings.

Surviving are her daughter, Lois Ledbetter, Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law, Dewey Lee and Barbara Wigington, Jasper, Charles S. “Billy” and Martha Wigington, Marble Hill, John and Barbara Wigington, Dawsonville; brother, John Carson Chumbley, Stockbridge; sister, Edna “Eddie” Goswick, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Edwin and Earlene Wigington, Jasper, Lisa and Ric Seymour, Gainesville, Julie and Greg Edwards, Marble Hill; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Jonathan, Daniel, Vallon, Robert; special family friend, John Carver, Marietta; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 5, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Larry Waddell officiated. Interment followed in Amicalola Baptist Church Cemetery.

Myrna Denson

June 24, 1936 - 

October 3, 2018


Myrna Denson, 82, of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.  She was born June 24, 1936 to Herman and Grace Buchanan  in Tate, Georgia.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, S.A. “Will” Denson of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Sandi Denson of Jasper; grandchildren, Holly and Chad Miller of Canton, Justin Denson of Denver, Colorado; great-grandchildren, Riley Miller and Avery Miller; sister, Janie Carver; and brother, Gene Buchanan.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial service was held at 3 p.m., Friday, October 5, 2018 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Jimmy Lewis officiating.

  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Jasper in honor of Myrna.

Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home & Crematory in Jasper.

Betty Cantrell

Betty Smith Cantrell, 98, of Jasper (formerly of Asheville, North Carolina)  passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2018 in Jasper after an extended illness.  

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Al and Becky Cantrell of Jasper; niece, Susan Demorsky of Frisco, Texas; niece, Mary Jean Demorsky of Asheville, North Carolina; nephew, Mark Demorsky of Black Mountain, North Carolina.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m., Monday, October 8, 2018 at Lewis Memorial Park in Asheville, North Carolina. Interment followed. (Lewis Memorial Park: 415 Beaver Dam Road; Asheville, NC 28804)

Fred Buchanan


Fred Buchanan, 55, of Tate passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper.  

Survivors include his wife, Tonya Buchanan; sons, Ted Buchanan, Kevin Buchanan; daughter, Katie VanBuren; sister, Diane Buchanan; brothers, Ed Buchanan, John Castleberry; grandchildren, Claira VanBuren and Maren Buchanan.

Fred will remain in the care of the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory as he is cremated.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fred Buchanan Memorial Fund in care of Roper Funeral Home.

Barbara Cavett

Mrs. Barbara "Bobbie" Cavett, 78, of Ball Ground, passed away October 7, 2018 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

Ms. Cavett is survived by her daughter, Angie Crocker of Acworth; daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Gary Ricketts of Ball Ground and Dawn and Dewayne Bingham of Canton. Twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also several nieces and nephews.

Ms. Cavett was preceded in death by her husband, Nolan Ray; parents, Tupper & Dovie Cavett; sons, David & Terry Blake; brothers, Terry Cavett, Kenneth Cavett, Darrell Miller, Jackie Cavett; sisters, Velma Cavett, Nannie Cavett; granddaughter, Frances Blake and  Grandson, Bradley Ricketts.

There will be no funeral services.

William Purcell

August 25, 1951 - 

October 5, 2018


Mr. "Pumpkin" Bill Purcell, 67, of Marble Hill, passed away October 5, 2018,  at his residence.

Mr. Purcell is survived by his wife, "Star" Vickie Purcell, of Marble Hill and ex-wife, Jo Ann Purcell of New York; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Jackie Eckert of South Carolina; daughter-and son-in-law, Patti Jo and Jimmy Tutty of New York; and six grandchildren also survive.

There is no visitation for Mr. Purcell.

There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 20 at his residence.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to Cagle Funeral Home to help with funeral home expenses.
