Curtis Hammontree 

March 15, 1939 - February 6, 2018


Mr. Curtis Hammontree, 78, of Jasper passed away Tuesday February 6, 2018 at his residence.

Mr. Hammontree is survived by his wife, Grace Hammontree of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Greg & Rebecca Hammontree of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, April & Chip Lake of Marietta; brother and sister-in-law, Charles & Joyce Hammontree of Jasper; sisters, Marie Pratt of Jasper and Hilda Sheets of Calhoun; grandchildren, Austin Lake, Carson Lake, Colton Hammontree and Grayson Hammontree.

Curtis is preceded in death by his sister, Frances Huffman.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2018 in the Cagle Funeral Home Chapel.

Rev. Steve Wigington and Rev. Roland Nelson officiated.

Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

The family accepted flowers or donate to Cool Springs Baptist Church.

Mitchell Greene

Mitchell Greene, 39 years old, of Bayside NY formerly of Canton, GA passed away on January 18, 2018 in New York. 

Mitchell is a graduate of Sequoyah High School in Canton, GA in 1997. He is a graduate of Kennesaw State University in 2005 in Kennesaw, GA, wit a B.S. in Sociology. He is also a graduate of New York University with a MA in Psychology, where he had his private practice with Comprehensive Counseling LCW’s. He was also Cornell Medical College’s Research Manager for genetic medicine in New York. . He is also a member of New York State Psychological Association and licensed with NY. Mitchell was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church , in Ball Ground, GA 

Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2018 from the Liberty Baptist Church, Ball Ground, GA Interment followed in the church cemetery. 

Mitchell is survived by his parents, Teresa and Len Cagle, Canton, GA; sisters, Amy Parks, Canton, GA, and Melinda and Justin Thomas, Jasper, GA; grandparents, Rev. Buddy and Mary Roper, Canton, GA, and Albert Cagle, Canton, GA; nieces and nephews, Allyson Schoen of Canton, Brittany Parks of Canton, Johnathan Parks of Canton, Jonah Thomas of Jasper; and two -great nieces, Ariah Schoen and Avalynn Schoen of Canton. Aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive. He is preceded in death by his father, Melvin Greene, grandmother, Ardelphia Greene-Mulkey, grandmother, Bernice Cagle, grandfather, Haden Mulkey, and grandfather, Mitchell W. Greene. 

Flowers were accepted, or donations can be made to Darby Funeral Home for funeral expenses. The caring staff of Darby Funeral Home is honored to serve the Green & Cagle Family. Due to his experiences, Mitch advocates for colon cancer awareness.

Curtis Bailey 

October 13, 1961 - January 31, 2018


Mr. Curtis Bailey, 56, of Acworth, formerly of Jasper passed away Wednesday January 31 at his residence.

Mr. Bailey is survived by his wife, Barbara Bailey of Acworth; father, Bobby Bailey of Jasper; son, Shawn Bailey of Ellijay; brother, J. I. Reece of Jasper; sisters, Sharon Paris of Texas, Brenda Romero of Smyrna, Freda Kaneko of Texas and Barbara Faye Heath of Dawson County; grandson, Trevon and granddaughter Phoenix.

Curtis is preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice Bailey and sister, Vivian Haley.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018 in the Cagle Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Daniel Lathem officiated.

Interment was held at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Jason Burdick, Josh Jordan, Justin Richardson, Andrew Hightower, Steve Dailey and Anthony Pegnado.

Betty Marie Phillips 

January 2, 1938 - February 10, 2018


Mrs. Betty Marie Phillips, 80, of Jasper passed away Saturday February 10, 2018 at Kindred Hospital in Rome.

Betty graduated from Pickens County High School in 1956 and from Georgia Baptist School of Nursing in 1962. She worked as a Registered Nurse for the Fulton County Health Department for 29 years and then worked in Home Health until her retirement in 1998.

She is survived by her stepson, James Stacy Phillips of Snellville; stepdaughter and husband, Shane and Russell Moore of Suwanee; brother and sister-in-law, Glenn & Shirley Taylor of Jasper; sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda & Earl Brooks of Jasper and Gail & William Dilbeck of Jasper; sister-in-law and husband, Johnnie & Louie Fowler of Lawrenceville; grandchildren, Jackson Wayne Moore and Austin James Phillips; uncles, Robert Taylor and Raymond Taylor of Jasper, Barney Taylor of Cherokee County, Virlyn Taylor of Florida, and Roy Goss of Marietta; aunts, Eulene Honea of Silver City and Helen Silver of Taylorsville; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; extended family, Tony Lee and Melinda Hancock of Jasper.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, James (Jamie) Phillips; parents, Carl Taylor, SR. and Marie Morris Taylor and stepmother, Lois Taylor.

Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2018 in the Cagle Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Charles Holbert officiated.

Graveside service was held at the Duncan Creek Church Cemetery in Buford GA. at 3:30 p.m. Rev Dr. James (Dee) Dillin officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to Cagle Funeral Home for Betty's caregivers: Tony & Melinda.


Goldavee Davis

February 9, 1934 – February 8, 2018


Katie Goldavee Davis, 83, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Grandview Healthcare in Jasper. 

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Steve Brock; Kathy and Michael Mullins; Sharmon and Joey Martin; sisters, Audrey Crump; Elsie Cox; brother, Sam Silver; grandchildren, Katie and Kyle Brock; Madison Davis; Jessica, Emily, and Lillie Martin; Dustan Mullins; Deidre Weaver; Devin Adams; great-grandchildren, Dolly Davis, Ardyn, Nolyn, and Kalyn Weaver; Carmyn and Caroline Mullins; Toryn and Easton Adams 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Bill Davis; parents, Grady and Malva Silver; sister, Ruby Dean; brothers, Charles Silver, James Silver, Clent Silver.

Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Ball Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Wallace Parks and Brother David Jones officiating. Interment followed in the Ball Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ball Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

Ruthell Greeson

March 10, 1918 – February 11, 2018


Ruthell Greeson, 99, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 at her home. 

Survivors include her daughter, Marjene Murphy; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Sheryl Evans; stepchildren, Sara and Ken Padgett, Lillian and Mack Thomason; sister, Gladys Flannery; 3 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by grandsons, Michael Evans and Greg Murphy. 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 13, 2018 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Nathan Smith and Reverend James Thompson officiating. The interment will follow in the Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Robert Lee Tanner, 65, of Talking Rock, Georgia passed away Monday, February 5, 2018 at Northside Hospital in Atlanta. 

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Tanner; daughter, Michelle Tanner; son, Jason Lee Tanner; daughter-in-law, Rebeca Atkins; brother, Johnny Tanner; brother, Carl Tanner; brother, Jack Tanner; sister, Omie Mashburn; sister, Evea Wilkins; grandchildren, Justin Hamrick, Dawson Hamrick, Jacob Smith, Harley Colley, Jerry Nelson, Toby Tanner, Anthony Tanner, Madison Buchanan, Sara Hamrick; great-grandchild, Jamie Hamrick.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, February 9, 2018 at the Roper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Timms and Rev. Chris Pack officiating. Interment  followed in the Black Knob Church Cemetery.
