Obituaries for Feb. 8, 2018; John Lassiter, Doris Wade, Johnny Bagwell, Helen Jones, Brenda Lawton

    John Lassiter

 February 9, 1949 – January 27, 2018

Retired Marine Master Sgt., John Robert Lassiter (Bob) passed peacefully on January 27, 2018 in Jasper, Georgia at the age of 68.

Mr. Lassiter is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Carrie Lassiter of Roswell; grandson, Chase Lassiter of Roswell; granddaughter, Brooke Lassiter of Roswell; son and partner, John Robert Lassiter Jr. and Greg Lehmkul of New Jersey; sister, Pat Brooks of San Antonio, Texas; and best friend, Melvin Brewster of Beaufort, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by Dorian Lassiter and his parents Johnnie Vinson Lassiter and Elizabeth Marie Lassiter (Sullivan).

Bob was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on February 9, 1949. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps and deployed directly to Vietnam. After an extensive career, he retired in 1988 in Patuxent River, Maryland. He then worked for the US government for another 20 years.  Bob was so proud to be a United States Marine and loved talking to other fellow Marines, young and old.

Bob’s true passion was his family and friends. He was a truly amazing grandfather (Pop). His heart of gold only grew with age and a permanent smile could be seen whenever with Chase and Brooke.  Some of his other passions included traveling, reading, watching sports, and enjoying a good meal with great company.

A funeral will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the “Semper Fi Fund” to assist so many others that are serving or have served and need assistance. Aiding other Marines will be a great honor to our beloved “Bob”. He was so loved and will be greatly missed.

Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
