Raymond Brown Jr.


Raymond J. Brown Jr., 90, passed Saturday, August 19, 2017 in his home surrounded by his daughters.

He is survived by his daughters, Fay (Brown) Hunczak, Ellen (Brown) Capps, and Allison (Brown) Johnson; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; his sister, Mary Ellen (Brown) Anderson;  younger brother, Floyd Brown and many close friends.

Born in Washington D.C., he lived in many cities due to his father’s military career.  The majority of his childhood was in Arlington, Virginia after which he lived in Coral Gables, Florida and Seattle, Washington. After completing high school in Coral Gables, he enlisted for a short period of service in the Navy at the end of World War II. He went on to attend and graduate from Florida State University.  He met his wife Betty Fay Roberts while attending graduate school in New Orleans.

Mr. Brown married Betty, September 4, 1954 and remained in loving matrimony until her passing in July of 2016.  Mr. Brown’s early occupations included successful employment in banking but his true vocation became his career in computers. At the age of 40 the family moved to Atlanta, Georgia and Mr. Brown was employed by Standard Oil as a programmer.  Over the years his skills and ability to adapt to the ever changing technology earned him higher positions until he settled at Southern Company Services as their Systems Analyst and Qualitative Assurance Specialist. He was their programming problem solver and trained many interns who went on to successful careers of their own.

Throughout his life, Mr. Brown was physically active and very involved with nature conservation. In his youth he was an avid hunter, hiker and sportsman. In his retirement, he served on various committees in Bent Tree, including the Lake and Wildlife committee. He served as Chairman of the Board twice for Bent Tree and used his programming skills to aid them in setting up programs to manage community finances.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. at Fellowship Presbyterian Church on Thursday, August 24, 2017.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Brown’s memory to Fellowship Presbyterian Church or to Pickens Animal Rescue,

Elmo Bryant

Mr. E. Carl Bryant, 90, of Swainsboro, Ga passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2017.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 18, 2017 at 10 a.m. in the Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Rev. Chad Kennison officiating. Entombment followed in the Eastbrook Cemetery & Mausoleum.

Pallbearers were Johnny Hairr, Alan Jones, C. J. Bryant, Dusty Jones, Caleb Jones, Jason Scott and Nollan Scott.

Mr. Bryant was born August 4, 1927, in Jasper, Ga. to the late Stanley and Emmalise Long Bryant and was owner/operator of Carl's Used Cars for more than 50 years and B's Diner. He was a member of the GIADA (Georgia Independent Auto Dealers Association) and the Swainsboro Moose Lodge.  In addition to his parents Mr. Bryant was preceded in death by two sisters, Elene Rich and Velma Grimes.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Susie F. Bryant of Swainsboro, Ga.; two daughters, Barbara Jones (Alan) of Chatsworth, Ga. and Linda Hairr (Johnny) of Swainsboro, Ga.; one son, Buck Bryant (Tessie) of Swainsboro, Ga.; one brother-in-law, Johnny Rich of Jasper, G.; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Johnny Snowden

September 6, 1955 – August 14, 2017


Johnny Edward Snowden, 61, of Talking Rock, passed away Monday, August 14, 2017.

Johnny is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Keisha and Michael Duncan of Talking Rock, Billie Jo and Jeff MacBeth of St. Augustine, Florida; sisters, Janice and Darwin Singletary, Tracy R. and Joe Noe; brothers, Timmy Snowden, Chris and Tami Snowden, Jimmie E. and Debbie Snowden III; grandchildren, Jenna Duncan, Olivia Duncan, Keigan MacBeth, and Brock MacBeth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie Elige Snowden Jr. and Lorraine Emma Berghuis; daughter, Tosha Snowden; and brother, Danny Snowden.

The family received friends at Roper Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, August 18, 2017
