Evelyn Sewell
Evelyn Stanley Knight Sewell, age 84 of Bent Tree, Jasper, Ga., has gone home to be with the Lord on March 29, 2007.
Minnie Evelyn Stanley was born July 21, 1922 to Clyde Jackson Stanley and Ethyl Morton Stanley in Conyers, Rockdale County, Ga. East Atlanta was her childhood residence with her identical twin sister Helen and six siblings, where she attended Atlanta's Commercial High School. Minnie Evelyn Stanley was named after her grandmother. She married Edwin Sylvester Knight on Sept. 19, 1941 and lost her husband in January 1972. He was an avid outdoorsman and game hunter, an official of Georgia Power Co. and the developer of Pine Springs Manor Subdivision.
Evelyn Knight was a PTA leader along with her husband Edwin, and she was awarded a Life Membership after serving as co-president at Walker High School for several years. She was a lifelong Methodist and for 20 years she was a 3rd and 4th grade Sunday School teacher and director of the Vacation Bible School at Martha Brown United Methodist Church in East Atlanta. She later attended New Lebanon Presbyterian Church.
She was talented in ceramics and watercoloring. Many of her ceramics received awards.
After her marriage in 1978 to teenage friend Dan E. Sewell, they moved to Bent Tree, a mountain community near Jasper. She volunteered over 1,000 hours at Mountainside Hospital Auxiliary, served Meals on Wheels for four years and was an Elder of New Lebanon Presbyterian Church. She continued her creative painting and became active as a rug hooker, doll maker and assumed bridge leadership and continued painting and reading.
Mrs. Sewell was preceded in death by her first husband, Edwin Sylvester Knight, and their second daughter, Mary Kathryn (Kitty) Knight Daniel. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Mary Ethyl Stanley Morgan and Margaret Delores Stanley Bryant.
Survivors include her husband of 28 years, Daniel Evans Sewell, Sr.; children and their families, daughter, Judy Elizabeth Knight Brooks and husband Charlie Ray of Loganville, Ga., sons, Stanley Edwin Knight and wife Kathy Isbell of Snellville, Ga. and Carl Syrenus Knight and wife Finny Estes of Canton, Ga.; grandchildren, Christopher Ray Brooks, Wesley Scott Brooks, Lisa Renee Brooks, Jeffrey Edwin Daniel, Teri Daniel Coon, Kerry Allen Daniel, Arvil Knight Fahner, Geoffrey Andrew Knight, Tiffany Leigh Knight, Wesley Edwin Knight; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Annie Helen Stanley Alderman, Mildred Joyce Stanley Huey, Gloria Jeanette Stanley Coley; and brothers, Joseph Jackson Stanley and Charles Richard Stanley.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31 at New Lebanon Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ben Laughlin and Dr. Jody Alderman officiating. Burial was in the family plot at Rest Haven Cemetery on Candler Road, DeKalb County. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Clara Densmore
Mrs. Clara Poole Densmore, age 93 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2007 at the Mountain Health Care.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Densmore; son, Ricky Keith Densmore; step-sons, Wallace and Ed Densmore; and brother, Claude Poole.
Survivors include her grandson, Keith Densmore, Ellijay; step-daughter, Doris Ingle; sister, Faye Bruce; great-grandchildren, William Keith Densmore and Brittany Nicole Densmore, both of Jasper, and Wesley Shook. Step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. March 31 from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Revs. Clyde Brock, Jerrold Young and Ed Land officiating. Interment followed in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Danny Marr, Sr.
Danny Joe Marr, Sr. of Hiram, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2007. He was born Feb. 21, 1951 in Ardmore, Ok.
Mr. Marr was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a heavy equipment operator, an avid motorcycle rider and member of the Southern Cruisers/Lost Mountain Chapter #393.
Survivors include his wife, Anna "Mimi" Marr, Hiram; mother, Alice Williamson, Marietta; father, Andrew Marr, Ardmore; son, Danny Joe and Deanna Marr, Jr., Powder Springs; daughters, Christy and Sean Terry, Alameda, Ca., and Jennifer Marr, Jasper; step-daughters, Courtney and Aaron Reimann, Dallas, Ga., and Lori Tarver, Hiram; brother, Gary and Cheryl Marr, Marietta; sisters, Kay and Wayne Skeeto, Dothan, Al., Midge and Furman Avin, Sumter, S.C., and Debbie and Wayne Hatcher, Ball Ground, Ga. Six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Phillip Pettit
Phillip E. Pettit, age 71 of Canton, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2007 at Northside Hospital-Cherokee. He was a member of North Canton Baptist Church and retired from General Motors.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Pettit; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Mark Stocksbury, Woodstock, and Tiffany and David Wheeler, Canton; brothers, Don Pettit, Canton, and Stanley Pettit, Acworth; sisters, Charlotte Fields, Canton; and father-in-law, Rev. C.B. Rogers. Seven grandchildren also survive. Mr. Pettit was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Johnson, and brothers, Jack, Olin and Frank Pettit.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, April 3 at 2 p.m. from North Canton Baptist Church with interment in Cherokee Memorial Park. The Revs. Horace Richards, O'Neal Evans, Jim Amos and Johnny Padgett officiated. Huey Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

 

Ralph Hicks
Mr. Ralph Hicks, age 77 of Jasper, passed away Friday, March 30, 2007 at Mountain Health Care in Jasper.
Mr. Hicks was preceded in death by his father and mother, Arvil and Mamie Hicks, and wife, Patsy Hicks.
Survivors include special friend, Blanche Tippens, Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Dianne Hicks, Jasper, and Randy and Patty Hicks, Cumming. Numerous aunts and uncles and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 1 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Joey DuBois, Harold Cantrell and Edwin Weaver officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Jess, Jacob and Joey Hicks, Jerry Seay, Chris Hulsey and Eric Tippens. Ron Taylor
Mr. Ron Taylor, age 64 of Morganton, Ga., passed away Saturday, March 31, 2007 at North Georgia Medical Center in Ellijay.
Survivors include his companion, Doris Cox, Catnon; step-son, Tim Lewis, Canton; step-daughters, Wanda O'Bryant, Jasper, and Brenda Lewis, North Dakota. Ten step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren also survives.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 4 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Jeremy Bryant and Tim Lewis officiating. Donations may be made to help with funeral expenses.

Betty Gibson
Mrs. Betty Ann (Bets) Gibson, age 55 of the Yellow Creek Community, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2007 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Gibson, Yellow Creek; mother, Lillie Bell Shoemaker, Ball Ground; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Jackie Gibson; daughters and son-in-law, Tracy and Chris Hensley, Marble Hill, and Jenny Clonts, Yellow Creek; brother, J.W. Shoemaker, Canton; sisters, Carolyn Beck, Marble Hill, Martha Pearson, Acworth, and Linda Gibson, Jasper. One grandson and three granddaughters also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 2 from Yellow Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Sylvester Ridings and Kenny Dobson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Randall Godfrey
Mr. Randall Godfrey, age 65 of the Price Creek Community, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Jimmie Sue Godfrey, Price Creek; sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Amberle Godfrey and Billy Joe and Brandy Godfrey, all of Jasper; daughters, Donna Johnson, Talking Rock, and Laverda Godfrey, Cumming; brothers, Gene and Kenneth Godfrey, both of Ellijay, Bernard Godfrey, Jasper, and Melvin Godfrey, Talking Rock; sisters, Lois Wright, Frances Burgess and Edith Chastain, all of Ellijay. Twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.

Mitchell Herrin
Mr. Mitchell (Stone Crazy) Herrin, age 57 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2007 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Angela Herrin, Jasper; mother, Juanita Herrin, Shelbyville, Tn.; sons, Mitchell Dale Herrin, Jr., Augusta, Jadie Lee Herrin, Louisiana, Billy Heath Trillet and Christopher Dale Herrin, both of Jasper; daughters, Brandy Love Herrin, Louisiana, Heather Lynn Trillet and Crystal Gain Herrin, both of Jasper; sister, Rita Kent, Marietta. Eight grandchildren also survive.

Ernest Bruce
Mr. Ernest Bruce, age 69 of Jasper, passed away March 27, 2007 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Bruce, Jasper; sons, David and Danny Bruce, both of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Tony Evans, Canton; step-sons, Chris Free, Canton, and Thomas Free, Florida. Seven grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, March 20 at 2 p.m. from Long Swamp Baptist Church with the Revs. Lamar Frady and Don Cagle officiating. Interment was in the Collett Family Cemetery in Cherokee County. Pallbearers were: Ethan Fields, John Young, Phil Mullinax, Terry Hyde, Mark Roland and Scott Bruce. Ty Griffeth
Ty Cobb Griffeth, age 87 of Madison, Al., passed away Monday, March 27, 2007 at Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville, Al.
Mr. Griffeth was a member of Long Swamp Baptist Church. He was a long-time resident of Macon, Ga. and attended New Heights Baptist Church. He was a life member of the Georgia Plant Food Educational Society; served in Squadron A of the 336th Army Air Forces Base Unit during World War II and received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 1 Silver Star and 3 Bronze Stars; Good Conduct Medal; Distinguished Unit Badge; and American Defense Service Ribbon.
Survivors include his son, Russell C. McCall; granddaughter, Martha Lee Marlow and husband Joseph of Madison, Al.; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Nicole and Michael Thomas Marlow; sister-in-law, Billie Lee Runnels of Leawood, Ks. Six nieces, two nephews and many thoughtful and loving friends also survive.
