Oh where have all the beautiful ones gone. The Bubba Bobs, the Pintos, the Als. All the great thinkers of our age gone elsewhere in cyber-space, leaving me here alone howling at the wind.

Has this site really died or is it just technical problems?

If you are misssing any signs, the county has been mowing on the cove road and other places. If they are in the counties 10 foot right away, they have been picking them up. You are able to pick them up at the yard behind the old jail.

pinto, perhaps if you would just read what is written, you wouldn't go on one of your diatribes. Read back, pinto. Read the whole paragraph you wrote concerning Nam. Now maybe you'll understand that you didn't, "just make a mistake" as you put it. You do that constantly in your rantings. Just pay attention when you post and maybe, just maybe so many in here would let up on you.

I hate to be a contrarian Pinto, but freedom of speech is probably healthier than it has ever been. Freedom of action is certainly jeopardized. The Constitution is mostly ignored.

But you have the freedom to say pretty much whatever you want as long as you are not directly threatening people with violence.

whot the hell marine?! al misunderstands your unclear rant and he gets thanked, I misunderstand and you call me a idiot. anyway, at least I admit I made a mistake. and you are right about nam. those dam peace lovers ruined it for all of us. the limp-wristed politicians, for the last time in american history, listened to the people, right or wrong. they took the troops out of vietnam and, pissed off their bloody agenda was foiled, redirected that aggression inside our own borders. now we live in a police state where the freedom of speech no longer exist.

hey what's the big deal about the dot chairman and the dot comisioner having an affair? I thought the whole purpose of the dot is for subordinates and people seeking contracts to sleep with their superiors. Even today, chip pearson, tom graves, and sonnny perdue all announced they too have had romantic relationships with both the chairman and the commmissioner, and with each other!

Mr. Grimes, you are crazy! We already live in a fascist state! What could your candidacy possibly accomplish that is not already established?

Recently, there has been a problem with rabid animals in the Hobson Creek area.  While I do not have any outdoor animals, it still scares me a little.  But what really bothers me the most is this....A week ago this past Friday, I was on my way to work, and there was a dead skunk in the road.  On my way home, it was still there.  I get home to a notice posted on the front door warning about the problems with rabid animals, and skunks were mentioned.  SO THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION WORKER WHO POSTED THIS ON MY FRONT DOOR had to drive by the dead, possibly rabid skunk, twice.  And it stayed there until it finally rotted away.

Don't you think they should have had it cleaned up so the kids playing nearby, or the dogs in the neighborhood wouldn't come into contact with it?

I then read the recent edition of the paper where they staed that they encourage people to make sure thier animals have had a rabies vaccine.  It's a state law.  And how they had to put to sleep 2 dogs who came into contact with a rabid animal.

Encourage pet owners?  IT IS A LAW!!  Pick up all untagged animals and put them to sleep!!!  The owners didn't care enough to get the shots, so pick the animal up!!!  They obviously don't care about thier animals anyway.

By the way, the owner of the two dogs had gotten them 7 years ago from an animal rescue.  Shame on the rescue for giving the dogs to someone who didn't care about them after all.

I did try and call the number on the flyer, that had directions of what to do if you had to kill one of these animals.  You are supposed to call them.   But they are only open for 2 hours a day.  Go figure....

Dear Editor: Since customers were cutting back on the use of electricity by getting energy saving light bulbs, etc., the electric companies were losing money. Consequently, they invented multipliers, which are a mathematical concept used to take advantage of the customer. These multipliers are used at the option of electric companies, so when customers aren't using enough to produce the desired profit margin, they simply raise the multipliers, and get their money. The multipliers are so high now even people who use almost no electricity are saddled with a huge bill. Even worse, the pubic utilities' commissions have been no help whatsoever. We might point out in Fascist nations utilities are provided at cost or given freely, as they're PUBLIC.The United Fascist Union proposes electric companies'monopolies be broken, and public companies be created that would charge the public for the electric they actually use; instead of letting some fat-belly private profiteers' live the high life at the public's expense. The U. F. U.would revamp the system and make sure the Public Service Commissions of various Provinces work in public interest instead of working crooked deals with Executives of monopolies allowing them to exploit consumers. Vote Fascist 2008!

My name is Donnie Craig and I am a Republican canidate for sheriff. I have lived in Pickens County for over 30 years and have been married to my wife Tina for 16 years. Tina and I have two children, Tyler who is 13 and Ashley who is 8. We are both members of Talking Rock First Baptist Church.

I began my law enforcement career in January of 1992 with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office. After being hired as a Detention Officer, I worked my way up through the ranks of the department until I was appointed Chief Deputy. As Chief Deputy, I was directly responsible for the daily operations of the Sheriff’s Office, developing and managing the budget and overall supervision of the Uniform Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Court Services, and the Adult Detention Center.

Following my service with the Sheriff’s Office, I moved into the business field in 2003 starting Affordable Storage and purchasing Burgess Service Station which would allow me to provide for my family while actively pursuing the office of Sheriff.

Now, I would like to combine my business and law enforcement experiences to bring a fresh, new approach to the Sheriff’s Office.

As you may know, in the last 15 years, our county has experienced a tremendous amount of change and growth. Our population has jumped from fifteen thousand to an estimated thirty thousand. We have seen this positive change in almost every aspect of the county-with one exception; The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office.

Sure, there have seen some changes with the sheriff’s office over the last fifteen years. For example, the Sheriff’s Department budget has increased from less than 1 million dollars to over 4.6 million dollars; the number of employees has increased from around 20 employees to over 80, the uniform patrol officers has increased from 2 officers to 3 and sometimes 4 per shift, while the number of officers assigned to work drug enforcement in our county has been cut from 2 officers to just one. In contrast, the administrative staffing has increased from around 3 to nearly 20 employees.  As Sheriff, I will increase the number of working road officers to six officers per shift and reduce excessive “administrative” positions within the Sheriff’s Office!

The current administration has been doing things the same way for far too long.  As uncomfortable as change may be, times have changed and these times present new challenges and threats to our community.

For example, in the last few years, we have seen an explosion in the use of methamphetamine in our county. It is like a fast spreading cancer that is eating us up from the inside out. Our county law enforcement has been too slow to respond. This bothers me not only as a citizen, but also as a parent.

This is just one way the current administration has lost touch with the things that are important to our community. I believe they have lost the respect that comes with an office that serves the people. I intend to restore that respect through service and dedication, and I will not forget the people I serve nor take for granted my office!

That’s why I am calling my platform “Determined to make a Difference.” I am Determined and with your support, together we can make a Difference in our community, but I need your help.

First of all, I will restore the taxpayers’ confidence in the Sheriff’s Office. Without an investment from taxpayers there is no Sheriff’s Office. I have reviewed the budget and expenditures over the last few years and have seen a tremendous amount of wasteful spending. We will direct our resources to serve the people of Pickens County and not just the department. I plan to create a department based on merit, ability, and performance. Not based on establishment, association, or relation. Under my plan, each and every employee will have earned his or her position based on job performance and not based on privilege!

Second, as our community is facing a modern day drug epidemic, we must take immediate action to combat this problem and protect our community. Under our current administration, we are part of a tri-county drug task force with only one officer assigned to work drug enforcement in Pickens County. This is unacceptable. We will create a special unit within the department whose sole responsibility is to aggressively crack down on the producers, distributors, and users of illegal drugs. I don’t think anyone could have kept Pickens County absolutely “Drug Free”, but there has definitely been an atmosphere where these drugs have been able to flourish. I plan to change this through education, enforcement, and investment.  We will fight the war on drugs and we will win!

Third, over the last few years I have listened to the many complaints regarding the animal control issues. It seems that we all see that there has been a problem but no one is willing to accept the responsibility. As your sheriff I will accept this responsibility. In 2009 I will assign two full time officers to an animal control unit.

Finally, we will reinstate the inmate work detail program and continue this program throughout my term as Sheriff. This program will consist of inmates who have been convicted of non-violent offences. These inmates will clean up the litter and illegal dumping from our public roadways. They will also provide labor for publicly funded and non-profit organizations within the county.  We need to send a strong message to those that break the law---you will serve your time and you will serve the residents of Pickens County.

As your Sheriff, I will bring these changes we need in 2009 by reorganizing our department and not increasing the budgets or raising our taxes. Drawing on my years of experience in law enforcement and business will allow me to hit the ground running as soon as elected.  If you elect me as your next Sheriff, I assure you that you will see positive improvement in our Sheriff’s Department and a “hard –line” approach to drug enforcement in Pickens County.

I want to encourage you to go to my website at www.craigforsheriff.com and find out more about our campaign and what we stand for. You may also reach me on my cell number at 678-232-9784.

I ask each of you for your support and prayers as we push forward with this election.

Thank you and God Bless.

Donald E. Craig

marine, did you call vietnam "paradise" (but you spelled it incorrectly)? well that gives us some insite into the state of your mental health and therefor your credibility. here's a tip for you - that's not paradise, it's probably a big piece of shrapnel lodged in your frontal lobe from one of those angelic viet cong who double crossed you with a grenade or suicide bomb set off in your vicinity, probably sometime around the 1970s, in what you now longingly refer to as paradise. Or you can always go back to Vietnam if you want, I'm sure theres someone over trhere who would fight you.

This paper needs to revamp itself.  With the election of presidents and our local sheriffs, why cant the wonderful reporters who went to college report on anything more important than the nonsense?  Do an interview with each of the candidates for our offices.  Ask them all the same questions, at different places so that WE THE VOTERS can make our own decisions, not the backward ideas of the local folks who seem to be fixed in the 40's and 50's around here.  It puzzles me that some cannot come into this current time and date.
[Editor’s Note: We will most certainly provide plenty of election coverage. Please keep in mind that while the political signs are up, the primary election is not until July 15. And we usually have plenty of question and answer with all the candidates the weeks before the vote. Also you might note that official qualifying isn’t until April 28 through May 2, so the races are far from set at this point.]

More than 4,000 American troops have been killed in Iraq. Thousands more lives have been ruined. Tens of thousands of Iraqis civilians have been killed and wounded without the benefit of medical care.  The surge may have quelled the violence momentarily but  American bombers had to be called in to put down the Shi'ites in Basra -- Shi'ites who were resisting a Shi'ite-led government. In Baghdad, residents were fleeing with as many personal belongings as they could carry because of the violence. The Green Zone has been under attack. After five years I would not  call that much progress.
Furthermore, the four-star general who used to command the 101st Airborne testified before congress earlier this month that there is no way they can support present troop levels. He said the U.S. Army has already lowered their recruitment qualifications and will now take former convicts.

Rather than comparisons to Nam, how about comparison to the U.S. war against guerillas in the Phillipines  not long after the turn of the last century where no one even questioned the use of early waterboarding by our troops and there weren't protests at all and we still came home without accomplishing anything. Or the British (I think 1800s) adventure in what was thenArabia, which lasted 80 years before they finally said these people don't want to be part of the empire and left without accomplishing anything. Are we going to be there 80 years?

Marine, you are wasting your breath...Pinto is allergic to truth and logic.

ANYONE who pays attention to history knows that the Nam war was lost not by troops on the ground but by Washington's elite, who stuck their finger in the air to see which way the wind was blowing before making any decision.

Someday, maybe, the decisions on war will be made correctly by this country again.  Politicians and policy makers make the decision whether or not to go to war, then they shut up.  Policy makers expertise is if war is justified, but once the decision is made to do it, let the folks whose expertise is HOW to wage war make those decisions...the military.

Had that been done Nam would have turned out differently, and Iraq would have been over a while ago.

Mr. R.  I agree with your observation's 100%.  Although I have absolutely nothing against Latino people.  They are just trying to take care of their family's. That question should be posed to Mr.Bush.  I notice if he doesn't like something that congress wants or its something he doesn't agree with he knows how to use that Veto pen.  It's like having a house with a bunch of unruly children. And the person in charge is only concentrating on one particular problem. And just letting the unruly children keep on being unruly. I mean I seldom see Mr.Bush on TV unless its concerning the war in IRAQ. And another thing have you ever pondered that how could Mr.Bush say or do anything very severe concerning the influx of immigrants. Do you really think Mrs. Jeb Bush and her children. The grandchildren of the President G.Bush Senior. would think very highly of that.  Since they Mr. Bush's own blood kin are Latino? I have. Sincerely, Debbie

Amazing how you can still get it wrong (probly on purpose) even after you have obviously researched the facts. the john yoo memo was not "immediately" rejected. it was rejected nine months after it became the u.s. official guidelines on torture, and it took even longer than that for the dept of defense to acknowledge this rejection. so the yoo memo was the legal justificaion tat "allowed" the u.s. to torure people in the first place. and you're missing the point -- the memo supports a pattern of the bush and his advisors believing they are above the law. it was only when some left wing looney came in at dept of justice that they were told otherwise. now we have to send prisoners to our dictator friends if we want them to be tortured.

the signing statements show the same pattern, except those haven't been rejected. al, you are arguing semantics and minute details that do not deny the anti-American way the bush operates.

and where in the un resolution does it say the u.s. or anybody had the right to occupy the country, change its laws, disregard the security of the people, and shirk its responsibility to rebuild what they destroyed? congradulations, you just quoted the document that proves the war was illegal. apparently I don't communicate very well with fence post, so this may be my last post on the Iraq war. So I will say right now that I reject any future personal attack against me by al or anybody else prompted only by their inability to admit that I am right.

pinto, what's amazing is your failure to see paradies. If you knew anything about the Nam war and if history has taught you anything, you'd know that it was the 'peace mongers' that lost that war for us. There was so much protest by the scared ones that we were all pulled out. Shortly after that there were 1.24 million people slaughtered and the entire country was reinhabited by the north. We NEVER lost a battle in Nam, but we lost the war due to the pressure of the 'scared ones'. The same white flag waving is going on now by the scared ones. Surrender was never an option for this great country of ours and that's why we remain free. The only difference today is the vast population of the spineless who don't want to serve their country, but protest the very reason they remain free to do so. Without replacement troops multiple tours are mandatory, just like Nam. During Nam, the longhaired cowards ran to Canada, hence dissallowing replacement troops...Now get what Nam & Iraq have in common?? While you're at it, you might want to get that inner ear checked out.

“It reminds me of the story about that little boy, have you ever heard this story where you know, a man walks by the barn and sees this little boy in this room filled with manure," she reiterates. "And he's standing there and he's digging, and he's digging, and he's digging. And the man says, 'Son, what are you doing up to your hips in manure with that little shovel?' The boys says, 'Well, with this much manure around there's got to be a pony -- and I'm going to find it.'"

Ironically, the story Clinton recounted was made famous by former Republican President Ronald Reagan

To Mr.Al,

I agree with you. About Mr. McCain.  In my book he's a stand up guy in that respect.  He and his children are will to give the ultimate sacrifice in behalf of this country. All I am saying is if "ANY" person wants to run for president.  That should be one of the requirements for the job. But in my opinion Mr. McCain is to far out of touch with the common man.  And about the WAR in Iraq.  My view as a AMERICAN and a citizen of these great United States of America. We have done all we can AFFORD to for that country.

We need to pull our people out.  We need to try to negotiate with other countries who are our allies.  To continue to keep a eye on that part of the world.  But the job is extremely to much for just the USA to take the total burden in life and financial reasons.  You can not help build up other countries and take care of other country's people and let your own house America go down and become weak financially and not extremely strong at home with limited troops across the world. Every day is a gift. And letting our country become weakened. To build up Iraq. In my view is asking for a terrorist attack. Yes, we are safe up to this point. But do people really think. That its not going to happen again?  We first must build up our country at home and have a extremely mighty force at HOME FIRST!  Not let our country get run down and drained of resources. To prove a political point. That is foolish. And that's my opinion. So people don't email mean thoughts about my view I am entitled to it. It's called Freedom Of Speech and that is my right and your's.  Sincerely, Debbie Hall

Lord Hidetori, everyone is entitled to an opinion and there is certainly evidence to support your opinion that the Iraq war was poorly planned.  However, I believe General Petraeus when he says things are much better since the troop surge. Even the left-wingers are having to admit it.  In my opinion, there is still a chance for success in Iraq and it is way to early to abandon our efforts.

Pinto, this is from the Congressional Research Service:” President Clinton’s conception of presidential power proved to be largely consonant with that of the preceding two administrations.  In turn, President Clinton made aggressive use of the signing statement, issuing 381 statements, 70 (18%) of which raised constitutional or legal objections.  President George W. Bush has continued this practice issuing 152 signing statements, 118 of which (78%) contain some type of challenge or objection.”  So, what you say is simply not true, they all did it, they all challenged; Clinton 70, Bush 118!  Again, Bush Haters grasping at straws.

Opening paragraphs to UN resolution 1441: “Recalling all its previous relevant resolutions, in particular its resolutions 661 (1990) of 6 August 1990, 678 (1990) of 29 November 1990, 686 (1991) of 2 March 1991, 687 (1991) of 3 April 1991, 688 (1991) of 5 April 1991, 707 (1991) of 15 August 1991, 715 (1991) of 11 October 1991, 986 (1995) of 14 April 1995, and 1284 (1999) of 17 December 1999, and all the relevant statements of its President,
“Recalling also its resolution 1382 (2001) of 29 November 2001 and its intention to implement it fully,
“Recognizing the threat Iraq's non-compliance with Council resolutions and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and long-range missiles poses to international peace and security,”  Russia voted for this resolution, Germany is not on the Security Council.

As for John Yoo; his memo was immediately challenged and retracted by Jack Goldsmith, the chief of the Office of Legal Counsel in the Department of Justice.  Just another red herring from the left; torture has NEVER been authorized by this administration.

Amazing! It's so easy to armchair saying liar, liar. I suppose Bush also knew that the plot originated in Afghanistan but just decided to stay there part time then head the troops to Iraq. Unbelievable. What ever Bush did, was right. We're still here,(unharmed), by coincidence. 11 attacks thwarted because we did the wrong thing I guess. Maybe we should have tried to 'talk' with these rapists and murderers. We could have reasoned with them. How weak and lame would that be?? Wake up!

You can try to spin however you want, but the war in Iraq was poorly planned and is not going well.

That's true about the signing statements, but bill clinton's signing statements said things like "this is a good law" and "I hope it is fully enforced." the bush's signing statements, all of them, say that any part of the bill is unconstitutional that impinges on the "unitary executive," a concept that the Magna Carta defined as a tyrannical instrument that is invalid in a free society. this shows two things -- one, the bush thinks he is above the law and two, he is too cowardly and lacking in principles to just veto the dang bill if he thinks its unconstitutional. thats what all the previous presidents did. Type in the name john yoo in google news and you will see the most recently leaked memo of the bush justice department that advised that torture is perfectly okay. bush doesn't know anything, but to think all this went on without cheney knwoing about it? you need to come back down to mars. again, look at all the leaked intel reports prior to the war, stating clearly that the reasons the bush and others gave for the invasion were wrong, and they knew it, and thus they were llying. "all other countries believed in wmd" is an old talking point that even cheney doesn't use anymore. it is completely false, as the Russians and Germans have come forward saying they tried to tell the bush there no wmd, and all those "other countries" were relying on the false and hand-sellected intel provided by the white house. the democrats suck too, I never said they had a clue. but the bush was the one leading the advertising campaign. al, I have read the un and congressional resolutions. Have you?

This is the kind of news we get from individual service people who have served in Iraq, but not in our everyday news suppliers.  Why!

 Did you know?
 I didn't know!

How could we?
Did you know that 47 countries' have
reestablished their embassies in Iraq ?

Did you know that the Iraqi government
currently employs 1.2 million Iraqi people?

Did you know
that 3100 schools have been renovated,
364 schools are under rehabilitation,
263 new schools are now under construction;
and 38 new schools have been completed in Iraq ?

Did you know
that Iraq 's higher educational structure consists
of 20 Universities, 46 Institutes or colleges and 4 research
centers,  all currently operating?

Did you know
that 25 Iraq students depart ed for the United States in
January 2005 for the re-established Fulbright program?

Did you know
that the Iraqi Navy is operational?
They have 5 - 100-foot patrol craft,
34 smaller vessels and a naval infantry regiment.

Did you know
that Iraq ' s Air Force consists of three operational
squadrons,
Which includes 9 reconnaissance and 3 US C-130 transport
aircraft (under Iraqi operational control) which operate day and
night, and will soon add 16 UH-1 helicopters and 4 Bell Jet Rangers?

Did you know
that Iraq has a counter-terrorist unit and a Commando
Battalion?

Did you know
that the Iraqi Police Service has over 55,0 00
fully trained and equipped police officers?

Did you know
that there are 5 Police Academies in Iraq
that produce over 3500 new officers every 8 weeks?

Did you know
there are more than 1100 building projects going on in Iraq ?
They include 364 schools, 67 public clinics, 15 hospitals,
83 railroad stations, 22 oil facilities, 93 water facilities
and 69 electrical facilities.

Did you know
that 96% of Iraqi children under the age of 5
have received the first 2 series of polio vaccinations?

Did you know
that 4.3 million Iraqi children were enrolled in primary
school by mid October?

Did you know
that there are 1,192,00 0 cell phone subscribers in Iraq
and phone use has gone up 158%?

Did you know
that Iraq has an independent media that consists of
75 radio stations, 180 newspapers and 10 television stations?

Did you know
that the Baghdad Stock Exchange opened in June of 2004?

Did you know
that 2 candidates in the Iraqi presidential election had a
televised debate recently?

OF COURSE WE DIDN'T KNOW!

WHY DIDN'T WE KNOW?

BECAUSE OUR MEDIA WON'T TELL US!

Instead of reflecting our love for our country,
we get photos of flag burning incidents at Abu Ghraib
and people throwing snowballs at the presidential motorcades.
Tragically, the lack of accentuating the positive
in Iraq serves two purposes:
It is intended to undermine the world's perception
of the United States thus minimizing consequent support;
and it is intended to discourage American citizens.

Above facts are verifiable on the Department of Defense web
site:

 Did you know?

I didn't know
But I know now.....

While I agree that the 'reasons' for the war were distorted, I have to say that I have no lost memory of the attacks we suffered in our homeland. Wherever our troops went to war however, the enemy gathered. Whether it was Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, etc., etc..These enemies celebrated 9/11. 8 out of 10 troops in Iraq believe we should be there. How do you account for that? Are they all misled? Numerous attacks on ours and allies soil have been thwarted by this administration.Even the Dem's believed that Sadaam had w.m.d.'s. Clinton bombed Iraq as well. It's so easy to armchair this very volital situation. Trust me, I spent a long time in that jungle called Nam and waterboarding should have been the least of their worries. The very reason we NEVER lost a battle in Nam was due to the info given by the Viet Cong. The very reason for the troup surge by this administration was due to the lack of replacement troups in Nam. Those were the sissys that ran to Canada to avoid fighting for this country. They called it 'protesting a war' while all it was, was fear. We couldn't get replacements because of those chickens. I can only imagine having the honor of meeting John McCain who actually turned down an offer to be released 3 years early because his Dad was an Admiral. He did this because he wanted to stay with his troups in captivity. This nation needs a hero. One who excell in character and keep this nation safe. Not some 'on the job trainee' with great speaking skills, or one who cries when the going gets tough. Wake up people and massage that memory and lets not forget our losses.

Debbie, John McCain is a strong supporter of the war in Iraq, his youngest son is a Marine serving in Iraq, his oldest son is a Cadet at the Naval Academy; let’s hope the war is over before he graduates in 3 years.  I guess that makes John McCain the only candidate qualified to be President!

Pinto, were did you find that info on Bush and Cheney deciding to torture prisoners.  You should turn that over to Congress so they can start the impeachment process!  Please, you know Bush and Cheney NEVER made any such decision.   President James Monroe was the first President to use "signing statements" and Bush has not used “thousands”!  BTW, Bill Clinton issued just as many "signing statements" as Bush!  No right wing conspiracy to usurp the Constitution just a President doing what most all Presidnets have done. Bush haters are getting desperate for ammuniton!

Pinto, The Center for Public Integrity is a George Soros funded organization. There is nothing new in their “935 lies” report. The only thing that stands out in this report is the fact that the focus is strictly on Bush. Perhaps that is why it is being ignored by the main stream media.  It doesn’t even seem to be generating much interest on left-wing sites like moveon.org.  It really is old and distorted stuff.  I can go and find quotes of the same “lies” in UN resolutions and in statements from leading Democrats during the same period.  You and everyone else on the plant knows that most of the intelligence agencies in the world as well as most Democrat Party leaders believed that there were wmd’s in Iraq.  That is why Congress passed a joint resolution and that is what the UN passed many resolutions.  !  Have you actually read the joint resolution and the reasons for going to Iraq?

It is fair to say that mistakes were made.  In any military campaign, there are always folks who caution about the possibility of failure!  Go and read about the lead up to D-Day;  there were many who said it would fail, and it almost did.  Eisenhower charged ahead and helped hasten the end to WWII in the process.  Had he failed, history would have treated him badly.  This military stuff is not for the faint of heart or for the indecisive. Progress IS being made in Iraq on both the military and political fronts.  History will be the final judge for George Bush, not you.

actually, now that I think about it (now that I'm not drunk like buttbob) the bush whole presidency has done nothing but shot the bird at checks and balances, just like buttbob -- thats bob hales -- did to his neighbor (the only difference being that buttbob got punished for it). this is shown by the fact that the bush and cheney decided to torture prisoners, in violation of u.s. and international law, without telling the other branches of govt. also, don't forget the thousands of times the bush has added "signing statements" to the congressional bills he has signed, basically saying that none of this BS applies to him, and he can strike down any part of the bill he wants to at any time if he doesn't agree with.

Give me a break! I take aspirin too. That's self-medicating. Doesn't mean I need to go to a meeting. Not everyone who drinks alcohol is an alcoholic. You should run for judge, Bob, because you've done a damn fine job of judging me without even knowing who I am.

Not that anyone care's what I think. But I just had to comment on Mr. Larry Starr's comment on President George Bush.  I feel exactly the same way you do Mr. Starr about this terrible war. The whole thing is an abortion.  A lot of Death and nothing good about the operation. And if anyone has anything to say about the brave young men and women from this GENERATION. They are the most courageous, honorable young people and I very much look up to their sacrifices.  They are doing and volunteering what our country asks of them.  Any government official who is not willing to send their own children into battle.  Should not be allowed to even serve in the position of leaders who make those kind of decisions. That should be a requirement of the job. Then we would get I believe.  A lot more deep thinking before sending these magnificent young warriors into battle to shed their precious blood for our country.  The United States of America.  My thoughts. Debbie Hall

the national media leans far right when it comes to the Iraq war. this is why you haven't heard about a recent report documenting "935 lies" told by Bush and seven of his top officials in the leadup to the Iraq war, or the many intelligence and pentagon reports provided to the president before the war telling him that there really are no wmd in Iraq, no al qaeda, and that the war really would last a lot longer and be a lot messier than we were told. one of these secret reports by the Pentagon that has now been leaked cautiouned that chaos would ensue and last a long time after the American invasion. who is saying there is no progress in Iraq? well the people who live there are among those experts, whose voices are not brodcast on the nightly news. even gen petraus said last month there is not much progress. the war is illegal because the mission went far beyond what was granted in the un and congressional resolutions. shame on anyone who dislikes being lied to.

LH...this country is not a democracy, or a representative democracy as you term it.  It is a democratic republic, and there is a big difference.  A democracy is two wolves and one sheep voting on what's for dinner...essentially mob rule.

The founding fathers never intended this country to be a democracy.  Hell, the word "democracy" isn't even in the constitution, the bill of rights, or the declaration of independance.

Ok, about Wal Mart.  HURRY AND BUILD IT!  Second, they dropped that suit.  Yes, it was unfair, but if Target and Khols were as big as Wal-Mart, you'd hear about them in the news as well.  So cross all your T's and dot all your I's before you post.  My child doesn't get academic awards and is an honor roll student.  We have no connections to teachers or staff.  Not even a solo in Chorus or band, it's the same old same old.  Just face it since the dawn of time some kids are the teacher's pets.  And for the government, see if you can do a better job.  I do not think we need a big court house, nor do I think the one that is there is decent. But 17 million can go toward much more than just a court house.  Not like we are Cobb and need the Taj Mahal put in.  Spend some money getting our kids in shape, create better programs in the rec department and get people who actually know how to coach, put on an extra sherrif to cover this large area.  Lots more that can be done!

Get your heads out of the clouds in this county.  Come into the current century and let things happen that can HELP our area, your old' fashioned attitudes are hurting the people here, not helping.
