One of the best blog entries I have read lately:

From David Corn, in response to John Boehner tweeting a story from the AP titled "Thousands rally to protest Pelosi healthcare":

"And hundreds of millions don't."

Good point, Corn. Just like the hundreds of millions who didn't march on Washington for civil rights or to end the war in Vietnam. Or the hundreds of millions who didn't take to the streets to protest the Iraq war or Rdney King, Or the hundreds of millions who didn't vote for Barack Obama. The silent majority strikes again!

Rob,

In your post you said "In the military of the past, someone who expressed things like that were simply beaten to within an inch of their lives, or until they shaped up. Different world now, apparently."

This is assault!! By today's laws this is not allowed in the military or even in society. Especially in the officer ranks where this would earn you a dishonorable discharge and court marshal. Anyway, under the anti-descrimitory laws of today you cannot hold race, religion, or political views against someone.

You posted further that "This will send a shock through our military at the worst possible time."

Well Rob that is whats called terrorism. Being in the military so recently you may have studied it more indepth than I did 60 years ago but this is what the enemy wants.

Good point, NamVet: Pelosi breaks her promise. How shocking.

On September 24, Speaker Nancy Pelosi told THE WEEKLY STANDARD that she was "absolutely" committed to putting the text of the final House bill online for 72 hours before the House votes:

TWS: Madam Speaker, do you support the measure to put the final House bill online for 72 hours before it's voted on at the very end?

PELOSI: Absolutely. Without question.

But tonight, when asked if Speaker Pelosi will leave the bill online for 72 hours after we see what's in the rule, Pelosi spokesman Brendan Daly replied in an email: "No; [the] pledge was to have manager’s amendment online for 72 hours, and we will do that."

Oh that's not all! Not by a longshot!

But the loss of jobs last month exceeded economists' estimates. It's the 22nd straight month the U.S. economy has shed jobs, THE LONGEST ON RECORD DATING BACK 70 YEARS.
Counting those who have settled for part-time jobs or stopped looking for work, the unemployment rate would be 17.5 percent, the highest on records dating from 1994.

The jobless rate rose to 10.2 percent from 9.8 percent in September. The jump reflects a sharp increase in the tally of unemployed Americans, which rose to 15.7 million from 15.1 million. That was much larger than the net loss of jobs, which is based on a survey of businesses.

Economists say it could climb as high as 10.5 percent next year because employers remain reluctant to hire.

November 2009: what happened?
“…the most important effect of Tuesday's elections is historical. It demolishes the great realignment myth of 2008. …it was ushering in an FDR-like realignment for the 21st century in which new demographics -- most prominently, rising minorities and the young -- would bury the GOP far into the future. One book proclaimed "The Death of Conservatism," This was all ridiculous from the beginning. The '08 election was a historical anomaly. A uniquely charismatic candidate was running at a time of deep war weariness, with an intensely unpopular Republican president, against a politically incompetent opponent, amid the greatest financial collapse since the Great Depression. And still he won by only seven points.”

“Virginia -- presumed harbinger of the new realignment, having gone Democratic in '08 for the first time in 44 years -- went red again. With a vengeance. Barack Obama had carried it by six points. The Republican gubernatorial candidate won by 17 -- a 23-point swing. New Jersey went from plus-15 Democratic in 2008 to minus-four in 2009. A 19-point swing.”

“The Obama coattails of 2008 are gone. The expansion of the electorate, the excitement of the young, came in uniquely propitious Democratic circumstances and amid unparalleled enthusiasm for electing the first African American president.”
November '08 was one shot, one time, never to be replicated. Nor was November '09 a realignment. It was a return to the norm -- and definitive confirmation that 2008 was one of the great flukes in American political history.
The irony of 2009 is that the anti-Democratic tide overshot the norm
Just last month Gallup found that conservatives outnumber liberals by 2 to 1 (40 percent to 20 percent) and even outnumber moderates (at 36 percent). That’s some death of conservatism.

Rob, those sounded like threats to me...and sometimes folks around here follow through...I know, believe me, I've just finished rebuilding my home after threats like those resulted in my house burning down.

Maybe you need a three step security plan.

1. Report the threats to the authorities like you did.

2. Install decent electronic monitoring. When I rebuilt, I had 3 cameras, solar powered, with small transmitters, installed. You can't get within 80-100 ft of my house without being on 24/7 video...and it's saved to a hard drive buried in a steel box 2 feet underground in the woods around me. The only wires that show is one to the small solar panel powering the hard drive/processor underground and the small exposed antenna...and I defy anyone to find it. Only three folks know it's location...the installer from out of the county, an attorney in Gwinnett, and me, It also sees in the dark, BTW.

A system like that runs just a wee bit under a thousand dollars...worth it when rebuilding after arson...or if you think a person threatening you is nuts enough to follow through.

3. Keep the Glock loaded and handy.

Save Donnie's guys some work.

This is why, people, you just have to be wary of people who express radical views. In the military of the past, someone who expressed things like that were simply beaten to within an inch of their lives, or until they shaped up. Different world now, apparently.

Jack,

I have to agree with you about the county tax model issue. Every sector of society has to adjust to the times, including government. There is no business on earth that can simply operate in a vacuum regardless of their revenue situation. Government makes up their own rules. Individual budgets, per unit have increased or remained flat despite the fact that revenue is down because of the economy! To fix that, they raised our taxes.

I read that the PCSO’s budget proposal shows a 12% increase from last year. Donnie sites increased insurance prices and the need to replace patrol cars. At least I admire his willingness to present this problem personally to the taxpayers. It shows character and responsibility. I am still concerned about the increase, however. And knowing that it is foolish to mitigate increases in police budgets by using the furlough, there has to be solution. Like you mentioned, moving budget from one agency to another or suspending pay increases. There is already a hiring freeze. Something else has to give. The schools are being furloughed to death and 2010’s budget is still flat to last year.

I still believe we’re here right now because Washington wasted a solid year in producing a REAL recovery plan. Reagan did it in 8 months.

Re: County $$$

Whether its the sheriff's office, the tax departments, the courts or any other segment of local, state and national government, it's time to bit the bullet and reduce the taxpayers costs. If this means reduced services or the number of employees then DO IT. It would not be fair to reduce one department to accomodate another.

When private income of citizens is reduced it demands a reduction in the costs of all others including those who work for the taxpayers that fund them.

Rob Jones has done a reasonable job in most instances. The County budget must be reduced to reflect what will come in the door same as any private citizen must do when their pay is downgraded.

Two quick points about Rob being an idiot:

1. What sane/intelligent person sends out his personal e-mail to someone he is engaging on a message board? Or anywhere online. Did you send Pointo your credit card number and Old Guard the location of a hidden key to your house? As a minor point from a purely legal standpoint, a decent lawyer would be able to convince a jury that those aren't threats, they are conditionals "if" you do something, Then I will whip your butt.
2. Rob, you operate on here like it a personal conversation between you and everyone. A lot of other people do this to. They start mid-sentence in a response but it doesn't make any sense unless you know who and which post you are debating. Why don't you and others post less often even if they are longer posts. Rob, You post ten posts compared to everyone else's single post. Are you literally sitting there all day watching this board? Go outside the weather is great.

I will note that the only race that the right-wing hate machine put all its resources into - NY 23 - was the one where the conservative lost. lol.

I assume, since the competent authority found no evidence of threats, and you are such a fiscal conservative, that you will be paying for the sheriff's office staff time in investigating your false complaint, refusing to burden us tax payers with the bill? or are you really just a liberal in disguise? oh and btw - are you really a lawyer like it says in chooch's emails? if so, I need some help with a DUI they are falsely accusing me of. can you help me, or is Judge/George Weaver still my best bet?
perhaps an illustration of jeeps intellectual capacity: he thinks that six brainless hucksters congratulating him every time he says something they agree with, and his willingness to unquestioningly follow the masses is evidence that he is "intelligent." and maybe it is. Aside from health care, which Harry Reid says won’t come to the floor this year (after the GOP sweep of Tuesdays elections) we have climate change coming down possibly Thursday.

Barbara Boxer, chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee plans to report the Boxer/Kerry markup out of committee with a simple majority vote despite the Republican boycott of the legislation until EPA has a chance to complete a study on it. Rules specify at least 2 Republicans must be present to release it. Hence, establishing a quorum.

What does this mean? Boxer wants to pass legislation that will all but cripple us with energy costs, all by herself. You remember Boxer, who demanded a General call her “senator” on the senate floor after he properly called her “ma’am”:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/18/barbara-boxer-call-me-sen_n_217564.html

Then she showed her problems with people of color at the hearing with the Black Chamber of Commerce president last summer over this very legislation:

http://www.breitbart.tv/god-awful-black-chamber-of-commerce-ceo-rips-sen-boxer-for-condescending-racial-remarks/

This shows the way these people think. A window to the soul of who thinks they should have to power to roll over the people and give the constitution the finger, and release legislation by simply eliminating opposition.

Ladies and gents, after over 31 common sense ammendment proposals made by the Republicans to various health care plans in comittees were summarily dismissed by Nancy Pelosi, House Republicans have introduced a comprehensive health care plan designed to affect health care on the COST side... it is 219 pages long, IS AFFORDABLE, and UNINTRUSIVE.

Right on the title page it declares the following purpose:
PURPOSE.—The purpose of this Act is to take meaningful steps to lower health care costs and increase access to health insurance coverage (especially for individuals with preexisting conditions) without—
(1) raising taxes;
(2) cutting Medicare benefits for seniors;
(3) adding to the national deficit;
(4) intervening in the doctor-patient relationship; or
(5) instituting a government takeover of healthcare.

The high points:
Number one: let families and businesses buy health insurance across state lines.

Number two: allow individuals, small businesses, and trade associations to pool together and acquire health insurance at lower prices, the same way large corporations and labor unions do.

Number three: give states the tools to create their own innovative reforms that lower health care costs.

Number four: end junk lawsuits that contribute to higher health care costs by increasing the number of tests and procedures that physicians sometimes order not because they think it's good medicine, but because they are afraid of being sued.

Summary and text of legislation:

I sent in all the paperwork and after two months received a call saying that we "did not qualify" - BECAUSE we are (1) not behind on our payments and (2) our debt to income ratio is relatively low. WHAT DOES THAT TEACH PEOPLE if you are half-way responsible and do without to make sure you make your payments on time and do not "live beyond your means" you don't qualify for these great interest rates, but if you're completely irresponsible, don't make your payments on time and get butthole deep in debt, Obama takes care of you and gives you wonderful interest rates. Rob: Sounds like those emails came from a psycho with "Little Mans Syndrome." As Jeep would say, "a stalker." I'd be curious about their past. Maybe they have appeared on America's Most Wanted or they have a picture on a molester or offender website someplace??

Damn Pinto and Chooch.... you all open your pie hole on here calling Rob a dummy and he comes right back with the goods on ya. Seems like ya both were trying to spiff the folks on here regarding threats. Kinda hard to say you lost credibility when you didn't have any to begin with.

This last 24 hours has been hard on the both of you. Lost a few elections and then look sorta stupid regarding threats. Make no mistake...those are threats even a liberal should understand. Now they are a mater of public record...way to go kids. Now go take your meds.

Pinto,
You said, “Dede is about as conservative as they come. the socialists only supported her becasue there was no Democratic option”

Let me share some truths with you, for the benefit of everyone here. Dede Scozzafava was no conservative, nor was there anything moderate about her. There was no fiscal conservatism to balance her social radicalism. It wasn’t merely that she was “pro-choice.” But that she was a proud recipient of a pro-abortion award named after eugenics proponent Margaret Sanger.

She not only favored higher government spending, but that she supported the stimulus that every single House Republican in office opposed, on top of her support for the card-check bill, on top of her support for the upcoming cap-and-trade bill.
“How Busted the GOP is”?
I am upset, as most conservatives are about the GOP dumping a million dollars of donations into this woman’s campaign, only to see her drop out, then be roped in by Patrick Gaspard, Obama’s political director who intervened in the race to convince Scozzafava to endorse the Democrat candidate Bill Owens after she dropped out. Ever heard of Gaspard? Top organizer at the Local 1199 chapter of the Service Employees International Union and an activist/organizer for the New Party and the Working Families Party – both ACORN/Democratic Socialist Association front groups?

We have a problem with the GOP in this case. But conservatism is far from damaged. Republicans swept the elections yesterday. Swept. And in case you need to be reminded, MOST Americans call themselves conservative in every Gallop and Pew poll conducted this year.
