I know there will be a play on words so i'll toss this in and I can get tons more. Regarding Grants to ACORN. Grants, $$, who cares....it is all funded from our tax dollars and it has to end.
Clipped from the following website: http://www.nationalreview.com/comment/clyne200410311142.asp
sk ACORN does — and it definitely receives. Take, for example, the most recent tax information from one of ACORN's subsidiary nonprofits: the ACORN Housing Corporation, Inc., based out of the organization's national headquarters in New Orleans. For the tax year beginning July 1, 2002, and ending June 30, 2003, ACORN Housing Corp.'s 990 Form shows a total of $1,710,203 received in government grants (the year before, the total was $1,977,306).

Chooch: That was an interesting post. I want to start this by saying again how much I appreciate your service to our country and your thoughtful researched discussion points. You seem to have done just about everything while in the service!
I appreciate your further look at the language in the IRS tax code regarding 501c3 nonprofits. I don’t see anything I “omitted” as you put it that doesn’t reinforce my own points. Nonprofits cannot work for or endorse partisan events or candidates. I’m not a lawyer, but my 2 brothers and 2 uncles, and grandfather are. Campaigning or working for a candidate’s campaign is forbidden under the code, under penalty of revocation of tax-exempt status. That much both of us laboriously researched and entered here.
So why did Acorn accept payment from Obama for President for $800,000 during the election? I guess that’s ok, since we can’t disagree without being labeled anymore. Why did Acorn workers get busted for trying to help homeless people vote for Obama? I guess those were rogue incidents. Some whacked out conservative didn’t have to make it an issue. The state attorney in 14 states did, my friend. My thoughts remain the same whether they illegally registered republicans or not! It is a crime either way, Chooch! That is the POINT: you see it as a campaign against liberalism; I see it as a campaign against corruption.
I’m not going to waste our time with quotes and links. You and I can both do our own homework. DoD regs prohibit service members from engaging in the same activities while in uniform, as that is a direct representation of the United States. I said that, you said the same thing and called me a liar. Ok, I guess we both are. Let’s move further down the line. We have argued the same points, yet I’m the liar. Your determination that the defendant in the 1982 court martial was victimized because of race is your perception, as most liberals throw that word around like beads at Mardi Gras. The figures I posted regarding social spending are the administrations. Every president sets up some sort of goal for ten years. Do I think this will actually pan out? Not hardly. I believe these programs will not make it very far at all because America is starting to get wise to what the government is up to. These are the totals of what the president wants to spend. I have the report; please do your own studying on that. That brings me to what affected me most of all about your rant. Former President Carter’s remarks came during Joe Wilson’s disciplinary issues in the House. I haven’t seen any swastikas or Hitler’s around lately. The demonstrations and discourse being voiced around the country have repeatedly been called acts of racism by the very fringe element you quote Carter as decrying. No reasonable person would condone such actions. No, Victoria, Carter was absolutely capturing the liberal moment to make a statement. From your own quote he told NBC news right after Wilson’s comment "I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he's African-American," Now you may be a personal friend of Carter’s and have personal knowledge of what he meant but the rest of us take him at his word. The charge of racism is designed and used by liberals as a conversation-stopper. You try to discredit me by taking the topical discussion off the table and replacing it with a socially stigmatizing insult. In Pinto’s words, you are parroting a popular liberal slander tactic. You just called me a racist because you THINK I disagree with Obama because he is black: the very concept you argued so passionately against me about in defense of Jimmy Carter! Did you know I am married to an Italian girl? I thought I told you in those personal emails we sent to each other. You know who I am, Chooch, but not many people on this board do. With this level of anonymity do you think racist overtones would have been more prolific in my posts? I mean really! I could have really proven your point for you but since I’m just an American who disagrees with the way my country is heading, I will choose to use the rights that you, yourself defend. Are you just mad because I showed you where Acorn is paid by government grants? Then this should really piss you off: FEMA gave Acorn a grant for almost a million dollars last year. Acorn makes no secret of the fact that they are a liberal organization; I’m surprised you didn’t know that.
Finally, I would like you to take note that I don’t call you a liar or a racist. You are just an angry pissed off individual because the other side has the gall to question the entire liberal enterprise system. Oh, the humanity.

Conservatives for Patients' Rights, has hired the same hit crew behind the 2004 Swiftboat smear campaign. To date "conservative" groups have spent approximately $21 million in television advertising against health care reform. In case some of you people don't remember the SwiftBoat smear campaign against Sen. John Kerry, the charges were proven to be unfounded and false. Pretty much the same as what people are hearing about Health Care Insurance Reform. I'm curious why none of the "conservatives" posting on this message board have not mentioned this fact but are focusing on ACORN.. actually I don't wonder.
I do wonder why the liberals and democrats have not made noise about this issue. I'll see if I can't help them make some noise. I've written several letters to various elected officials requesting that they be investigated. Maybe the "liberals" can get someone to infiltrate their organization and video tape them saying they know that the statements they are making in reference to health care reform are false just as the SwiftBoat accusations were false.. Wouldn't that be a kick in the pants. Oh and Rob, if you didn't know this fact about this your not following your conservative buddies very closely. You need to get with the program Dude.

For example Obama has the DHS Secterary (Sebulius) as well as a Health czar (DeParle). We have two people in the same position, only one is confirmed and constitutionally valid.
Are we still going to blame Bush for everything? Czars have been around since FDR. Overwhelmingly, Democrats have appointed the vast majority of them. Lets not even bring up Van Jones again!

Yes Rob, false statements, distortions of the truth and omission of facts to support your perception, otherwise known as lies. Taken directly from the IRS website (copy and paste operation)..
Section 501(c)(3) organizations are restricted in how much political and legislative (lobbying) activities they may conduct. For a detailed discussion, see Political and Lobbying Activities. For more information about lobbying activities by charities, see the article Lobbying Issues; for more information about political activities of charities, see the FY-2002 CPE topic Election Year Issues.
Political activities and legislative activities
(commonly referred to as lobbying) are two different things and are subject to two different sets of rules. The rules depend on several issues:
The type of tax-exempt organization (different rules apply to private foundations than to other section 501(c)(3) organizations), The type of activity (political or lobbying) at issue, The scope or amount of the activity conducted, and The consequences of exceeding the given set of limitations.
Now lets add the paragraphs you left out of your posting:
Certain activities or expenditures may not be prohibited depending on the facts and circumstances. For example, certain voter education activities (including presenting public forums and publishing voter education guides) conducted in a non-partisan manner do not constitute prohibited political campaign activity. In addition, other activities intended to encourage people to participate in the electoral process, such as voter registration and get-out-the-vote drives, would not be prohibited political campaign activity if conducted in a non-partisan manner.
On the other hand, voter education or registration activities with evidence of bias that (a) would favor one candidate over another; (b) oppose a candidate in some manner; or (c) have the effect of favoring a candidate or group of candidates, will constitute prohibited participation or intervention.
Obviously there is no evidence of past registration efforts by ACORN favoring one candidate over the other or else some whacked out conservative would have already made it an issue. The key word is EVIDENCE. I am not saying that ACORN did not favor Obama over McCain. That would be a ridiculous statement, but there is no proof, only logic to support that conclusion. ACORN's voter registration efforts were not restricted to Democrats. Some of the people working in the voter registration program registered many false names on the the Republican side as well. Why have you not made that statement as well. Your postings would indicate that only democrats were registered falsely and that is definately false.
Why did you leave these paragraph out of your posting Rob? I'll answer that question for you...because it says that ACORN can in fact participate in voter registration activities among other political activities and it does not support your twisted logic. Just the same as Military personnel can participate in legal political functions as long as they do not wear the uniform or use their official position to exert pressure on fellow servicemembers to vote for a candidate specific candidate or issue. Military personnel are restricted from identifying themselves with any branch of the service while attending functions of a political nature but that is the limit of the restriction. I myself attended no less than 4 political rallies and 3 protests during my 22 year career.
In addition. I served as a permanent member of a Courts Martial Board in Kaiselslautern Germany. I sat on that board for 27 Court Martials as a member of the jury. One of those cases was in reference to an E-7 that attended a peace rally in support of the end of the Viet Nam Conflict when he was an E-2. He was found not quilty of violating the UCMJ because he attended as a private citizen, did not wear the uniform nor did he identify himself as a member of the military service at the peace rally. What was really ridiculous about that particular case was that he attended the protest in 1970 in Anaheim California while home on leave, but the court martial was in 1982. It appeared to the Court Martial Board, that he had a problem with his commander and his commander was looking for anything he could come up with to get rid of him. Oh yea,,he was a black Sergeant First Class. What really struck me however was it came to light that his Commanding Officer was from guess where? Georgia. Several of his extended family were former members of the Klan that had participated in several public Klan rallies. Pretty much as the fact that this E-7 attended a peace rally in 1970 when he was an E-2 came to light out of nowhere. His commander was gunning for him, pure and simple. There was no question in the Courts Martial Boards opinion and we stated so in our findings.
Next lie you told recently: President Obamma will spend $10.3 trillion on welfare between 2009-2018. Absolutely false, no question. Obama is not authorized to spend federal funds. Only Congress can do that. Congress passed the welfare bill not Obama. In addition I guess you think Obama will still be President in 2018. I doubt it as there are term limits.
Next lie you told: Now even Jimmy Carter is playing the race card! Disagreeing with the president is all about the fact that Obama is black, according to our ex-president-in-residence. Whatever liberals can do to keep the focus OFF the facts of the issues... Obviously a false statement or if you prefer a lie.... what Carter said was he thought race was an issue. He never said disagreeing with the president is ALL about Obama being black. You said it. Not Carter. Here is what Carter said.
Former President Jimmy Carter reiterated Wednesday that he believes racism is an issue for President Obama in trying to lead the country. "When a radical fringe element of demonstrators and others begin to attack the president of the United States as an animal or as a reincarnation of Adolf Hitler or when they wave signs in the air that said we should have buried Obama with Kennedy, those kinds of things are beyond the bounds," the Democrat who served from 1977-1981 told students at Emory University.
"I think people who are guilty of that kind of personal attack against Obama have been influenced to a major degree by a belief that he should not be president because he happens to be African American.
"It's a racist attitude, and my hope is and my expectation is that in the future both Democratic leaders and Republican leaders will take the initiative in condemning that kind of unprecedented attack on the president of the United States," Carter said. Carter's comments came a day after he said racial politics played a role in South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst during Obama's speech to Congress last week and in some of the opposition the president has faced since taking office.
"I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he's African-American," Carter told "NBC Nightly News."
I defy you to show me where Carter said that the resistance towards Obama and his initatives is "all about the fact Obama is black". You sure like to put words in people's mouths don't you? The same as I defy you to show where I ever made a statement that I support ACORN. I have never said I support I ACORN. I have corrected some of your false statements because I think it's important for people to have facts instead of reading your lies and buying into them. The same as you have referred to me as an "Obama" worshipper. News flash: I did not vote for Obama. I have said it before. I support his intitiatives because change is needed in the way things are done in this country reference health insurance reform and the terrible state of our economy, which in MY OPINION started long before Obama took office. Quite frankly I don't care who I offend by telling the truth nor do I care if people are insulted by my saying your a total moron if you don't see that things have to change and can not go on on as they have been for the last 40 years. I also don't care if anyone is offended by my not supporting a war that can never be won, no matter what any of you think. This alledged war on terrorism has only created more terrorists, more Islamic radicals than there have ever been because of the U.S interference in affairs in the Persian Gulf. And it's all because of oil. And yes I am calling anyone that can't understand that the only reason we are involved in the Persian Gulf is because of oil a fool and a puppet for the ever present war machine, the United States of America. I'm for diplomacy. Not war. There are other ways to solve the oil problem besides war.
To end this long posting. Rob, I think you are racist. I don't think you would ever agree with anything that Obama attempts simply because he is a black president and you can't accept it. Too friggin bad. Deal with it.
I could go on dissecting your many lies, distortion of facts and uninformed opinion but it would take all day.
Now spend a couple more days writing about ACORN, its a non issue and occupies you from other issues that are actually important as to where this country goes from here. Your pretty easy to manipulate in that manner. All I have to do is make a statement disagreeing with you and you will spend hours looking for ways to justify your non-sense.

For any of you who really think the way Pinto does about Acorn and similar groups, that it is only 40 million bucks, who cares? We ALL should care! Some points about how costly the "war on poverty" is:
■Over the next decade (2009-2018), President Obama will spend $10.3 trillion on welfare programs. This includes cash, food, housing, medical care and targeted social services for poor and low income Americans. Of this spending $7.5 trillion will be federal spending and $2.8 trillion will be state government matching contributions to federal welfare programs.
■President Obama will spend twice as much on welfare as Clinton did, after adjusting for inflation. Over the next decade welfare spending will amount to around $300,000 for each person currently living in poverty, or, on average, $1.2 million for a poor family of four.
■President Obama will spend more on welfare in a single year (FY2010) than Bush spent on the Iraq war during his entire presidency.
■Total cost of the War on Poverty since its beginning in 1964 has been $15.9 trillion. By contrast the total cost of all other wars in our nation’s history has been $6.4 trillion.
■If total welfare spending were divided equally among all poor persons, each would get, on average, $16,800 in welfare benefits.
There is a substantial, HUGE amount of money in the "helping the poor prostitues" business. Acorn and the others (and there are some legit groups out there) stand to take huge chunks of that. The nonprofit arm passes it internally to the profit arm of the organization and people get rich.

This blurb explains some of the problems people have had in efforts to investigate and prosecute Acorn:
"Despite the swiftness with which the Senate acted, this is hardly the first time ACORN has been accused of illegality. Last fall when ACORN was investigated for vote fraud in a dozen states, the New York Times reported that an internal ACORN legal memo raised “questions about whether the web of relationships among its 174 affiliates may have led to violations of federal laws.”
The Times reporter who wrote that story, Stephanie Strom wanted to pursue the story further, but she was discouraged by her superiors at the Times and gave up after blistering phone conversation with then-candidate Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. Strom revealed in an email: “I’m calling a halt to my efforts. I just had two unpleasant calls with the Obama campaign, wherein the spokesman was screaming and yelling and cursing me, calling me a rightwing nut and a conspiracy theorist and everything else.”

Melissa, in Jeep's defence it is becoming difficult to keep track of all the insults that are coming from liberals. Lets just break them down:
Van Jones on Republicans... assholes Jimmy Carter on those who disagree with Obama... racists Obama on Cambridge cop... stupid James Clyburn, Rep. Hank Johnson, Maureen Dowd et al on those who disagree with Obama... racists
I hope this helps, keep in mind this list is only what I could remember in 2 minutes. There are many more examples.

It is so interesting to me that the mainstream (liberal) media still is silent on the whole Acorn scandel. Charles Gibson, anchor of ABC news, claimed yesterday he had not heard of the story!

I agree Jeep.... Makes me wonder what the story would have been had it been Beyonce that had won and say Toby Kieth grabbed her microphone away and said Taylor Swift was the better choice?? Maybe Jimmy Carter can answer that one for us?

Liberals play the Race thingy when they are backed up against the wall I have noticed. First they try to confuse the issues by making statements opposite of reality. They totally disregard the facts because they don't care. When all of this fails then they call racist!!
The facts are simple: Jimmy Carter is/was and still is the worst example of a president this country has ever seen and we have seen some bad ones. Bar none, the worst!! Obama, to his credit, would have to work hard to beat out Jimmy Carter. It's not too late so let us see how close he can get.

Actually Jeep, Obama called him a Jacka$$. Since everyone is so picky about having exact details, I thought I would clear this up for you. Wouldn't want it spreading around if it wasn't true.

If you go to biggovernment.com be sure to scroll down and look at all the other things concerning ACORN. It has the NY, Washington and other videos as well as the transcripts of the conversations. AND much more. Just scroll down the side to see how many have reported on this farce.

Now even Jimmy Carter is playing the race card! Disagreeing with the president is all about the fact that Obama is black, according to our ex-president-in-residence. Whatever liberals can do to keep the focus OFF the facts of the issues...

Bozo speaks again and as usual makes as much sense as a loon. Pinto, I mean Bozo, you have no morals or sense of pride in your country what so ever. You're a total farce and enjoy making statements that are so far out of sync with reality that I sincerely think you need meds. The Facts are, your liberal pals are taking a real beating from FOX News. FOX should get a medal for this when it is finished and cleaned up. You couldn't even carry Glenn Becks bags....

this acorn thing, I don't understand the big deal. I haven't seen any evidence they are big democrat supporters. remember about half the fake voters they are accused of signing up are republicans. besides, they have only been convicted of a couple of cases, out of about 100,000 that politically biased prosecutors have filed. and in thos convictions, acorn managers turned the perps in and they pleaded guilty. except they do help poor people, and some idiots think that means they are "liberal." but doesn't that mean our national defense system, which has accidentally protected some poor people, is "liberal"? anyway, we're talking about so little money here that I don't get the story. agencies that do govt contracts have to be corrupt in order to qualify for those contracts. otherwise, there would be no national defense, oil, medicare, roads, the list goes on and on, and is in the TRILLIONS of dollars. regarding acorn, it looks like someone has an ax to grind if this is the worst they can come up with. they're not even repeating their health care lies anymore... NonVet - watch out, if its on FoxNews chances are its false. think for yourself, be your own drummer, have a unique opinion, don't follow the misleader...

Marine, you are absolutely right. Every time a police officer stops someone they are parroting the law. When I quote Navy Regs I am guilty of parroting. When we speak of illegal use of tax money and fraud, we are parroting federal law. Funny how it all just comes down to right and wrong.

To follow up with you, Chooch, the DOD's rules for servicemembers participating in political activities is EXACTLY the same as the IRS rules pertaining to nonprofit organizations like ACORN. I did not come up with any garbage or make false statements. Come on, dude. Have you even read the 501c rules? Don't worry. Cong. Charles Rangel didn't read the tax laws either.
Please refresh your memory:
http://www.ig.navy.mil/Complaints/Complaints%20%20(Political%20Activities%20of%20Military%20Members).htm#What_are_the_applicable_regulations/statutes_that_pertain_to_political_activities_of_members_of_the_Armed_Forces
Here again, IRS tax code:501(c)(3) organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office. Contributions to political campaign funds or public statements of position (verbal or written) made on behalf of the organization in favor of or in opposition to any candidate for public office clearly violate the prohibition against political campaign activity. Violating this prohibition may result in denial or revocation of tax-exempt status and the imposition of certain excise taxes.
