Cursing Mommy...the real issue with getting rid of the school board is getting someone to run against them. In the last election I don't recall anyone running against any of the board members. I can tell a funny story a teacher told me. Teachers were recently required to sit through an ethics meeting. They were preached to that even having a drink on your own front porch could look bad. Our school Superintendant used to work in Fannin County. Ask some people why he is no longer there. It wasn't drinking. So do our school officials really believe that a teacher of legal drinking age enjoying a cold beer on their own property is less ethical than say a married man who is having an affair. Many teachers found this amusing.

Cursing Mommy, if you voted for SPLOST I don't see your beef. You agreed to it, the projects were very well advertised, and we built it.
If you think it is easy to juggle scheduling for all of these sports requirements, as well as the gym's other uses you really should become involved and see how it really works.
If you are upset about the economy, like most of us are, your beef is really with the federal government.
Where were you when the conversation I started about the AD's $103,000 salary was a focus? Budgets are approved long before contracts expire. Have you voiced your concerns to the school board? Mind you, you should research things before you address people with profanity. PHS is actually a pretty small high school by today's standards. The common facilities were downsized due to budget issues during initial construction, so SPLOST was approved by the taxpayers to fix this problem. The gym doesn't even have air conditioning. Don't wait until the building gets its C of O before you start to complain. This plan wasn't voted on while we were sleeping, it was extremely public. That's democracy, if you voted for it, you own it.
I know a lot of teachers very well, actually. They aren't often in a jam for resources they need to teach our kids. They are in the computer lab today, actually. There are laptops, desktops, smart boards, you name it.
The school board is far from responsible for the economy, but they do respond to it: to wit, teachers and admin must now take furloughs. This is a pretty significant pay cut for these people who really barely get by. If you have real evidence that board members squandered tax money I would LOVE to hear it.

Cursing Mommy, I sorta wonder about the SPLOST as well as tax increases. MY property tax has just about doubled in the last 5 years or so. This on top of a SPLOST. I remember growing up and all the services the city provided with our Property tax dollars. Now you can't even get a pot hole filled in the streets. Jasper is growing, taxes should be increasing yet it isn't enough. There are other things that need attention besides schools. Naybe the whole darn budget needs to be looked at again???

I'm with Melissa, we need more conversation on local f-ing issues. I saw where the safety day was re-scheduled. I guess that's too bad I wouldn't go to the damn thing anyway. Nothing against cops or anything, but just better [deleted] things for me to do on a weekend.
Rob, I appreciate your response. And I voted for that g-d SPLOST. But now regret it due to the fact that those [deleted] on the school board have squandered the money. If I'm not mistaken I read in the f-ing Progress that part of the property tax increase is where the einsteins on the school board didn't anticipate the economic downturn and overcommitted on the SPLOST projects and had to make it up with our property tax dollars.
Also just look at the numbers, you cite four b-ball teams, 2 volleyball and four PE classes. Assuming the PE classes use the gym only during school day and the other six teams only use it after school, tha's six teams in one gym, any f-ing [deleted] can schedule that and in any gd event, you don't build a multi-million gym to accommadate fewer than 100 students.
One other things those lying [deleted] on the school board aren't forthcoming about is that the enrollment hasn't grown as much as they aniticipated even back when they were preparing for rapid growth. In fact enrollment is mostly flat for the past five or six years. So the idea that they need new facilities for a growing student body is total BS.
Finally, how many of you taxpaying business owners wish we could have sprung for a nice spiffy new and massive central office during these times, justlike the board bought for their top personnel.
Actually this is finally. Go ask any teacher if they feel they have the educational technology they need such as projectors, computers and software? The answer is no. But we do have two gyms. [Deleted}

Cursing Mommy, I do appreciate you stopping by to spread your sunshine around. To explain this a little, the additions to PHS were paid for by SPLOST funds, that the voting public approved. This is the only high school in the county, and its facilities were simply too small. Especially as compared with surrounding schools. For example, the gym was built too small to support 4 basketball teams, 2 volleyball teams, 4 PE classes, etc. The county could not host volleyball tournaments since the gym was too small for 2 nets. The school actually makes money from these tournaments. Storage for these sports was also deleted from the scope. The band room was too small for 200 kids plus instruments. There was no dance room, and the auditorium was also too small to fit the student body.
Next time, vote. This funding has nothing to do with the district operating budget, which comes mostly from our property taxes. This issue has been discussed in the recent past.

These points are exactly dead on accurate. In this case they were passing HR3200, the insanely vast government health care bohemouth that would create 33 seperate huge government burocracies. Remember the 1000+ page document that the liberals just fell in love with, with all that unfunded programing. If you recall the debate surrounding the illegal immigrant coverage issue, how there was no provision to validate legal residency... I recall being called every name in the book over that issue. Magically, that provision has appeared in Chairman Baucus' health reform bill. I guess we weren't such idiots after all? Maybe?
But the Baucus bill doesn't go far enough for the liberals. There is no public option. And still it costs almost a trillion dollars. It does, however include an excise tax (that the president wants you to call a "responsibility fee" of up to $3500. Or is it $3800... hard to keep track of how much we will increase our debt.
Yes, there is much "mis-communication" going on. Obama can't even define the word tax.

I wonder if he will really stay away this time , maybe he went to rehab and will re-emerge under a different name . The only downside to all of this is that it leaves us with Pinto Bean , himself a certified loon . Oops , I forgot about the Old Fart , aka Old Guard . TALKING PTS-Congressman Wilson was rude, but correct. Our President is a liar!
1. At the Caterpillar factory in April, he said CEO Jim Owens told him; “if Congress passes our plan, this company will be able to rehire some of the folks who were just laid off.” Asked about this Owens said “I think realistically no. The truth is we’re going to have more layoffs.”
2. At his Town hall in New Hampshire , he said he “does not support single-payer” yet in a speech to the AFL he was video taped saying; “I happen to be a proponent of single payer.”
3. He repeatedly says the healthcare plan would not increase the deficit. Yet the independent Congressional Budget Office said it would increase the deficit by $239 billion.
4. Recently addressing the AFL, he said his opponents don't have their own plan. That's a lie. Congressman Price of Georgia has a 265 page bill, HR3400 that outlines the Republican plan. Because the mainstream media refuses to report it, does not mean it doesn't exist!
5. In July he said “the AARP would not be endorsing a bill if it was undermining Medicare.” When asked by ABC, an AARP official said the AARP hasn’t yet made up its mind as an organization whether to endorse the bill.
6. He has repeatedly said the healthcare bill was necessary to cover the 47 million Americans who do not have health insurance. That's a lie! Every study shows that figure includes 10-15 million Illegal Aliens. The number of Americans is around 30 million.
These are just a few of the provable lies Obama has told and does not even begin to list the deceitful statements he has made.
