He has no political ambitions after his time as commissioner is over . If he does , I haven't heard about it and he and I talk almost every day . I don't have a legitimate reason to ask for a background check on you and you know it. I certainly would not lie of the request form. I wonder exactly why the Sheriff's office even has such a form. Folks, if you dont' think there is such a form, call the Sheriff's office and ask.
You can dance around the issue and propose all the tests you choose. You know there are circumstances and ways to find out if someone has an arrest warrant. You also know there are legitimate reasons for folks not to use their real name on a public message board. You also know that most criminals are dumb; certainly dumb enough to use there real name on a message board. Heck, criminals these days are filming their crimes and posting them on-line. You can't get much dumber than that.

Because you seem so sure of your position and so sure that I am wrong on several different levels , try this little experiment and report back to the group your results : My real name & mailing address : Edward W. Since I retired from there , I know what they will say , but don't take my word , go and find out for yourself . When you go , make sure you ask for the right background check , there are three different types . Oh , a background check IS different than an active arrest warrent check , the results of which is usually only given out to other law enforcement types .
You point about the TV shows : Local law enforcement , where the crime happened , have given up on finding the bad guy in their area and are asking the public at large for help in finding the scum-bag . I thought that would have been obvious from the shows opening facts about each case being aired . As a suggestion , you might want to watch instead the show " 48 hours " , it shows how local law enforcement agencies deal with " active arrest warrents " .
Your point about spousal abuse : Not logical . If she called the cops and wanted him arrested for spousal abuse she already knows about an arrest warrent . If she goes to an abuse shelter , the person in charge has a legal duty to report the crime to the sheriff's office , so once again she would know about any arrest warrent . And before any legal beavers out there say anything , yes I know that most of the time an arrest warrent is not issued , only a probable cause affidavit is issued . If law enforcement can't find the offender ( most of the time they can ) then an arrest warrent is issued . In Georgia , as well as many other states , the abused doesn't even have to complain , if the cops see the results of the abuse , the state can bring charges . If she testifies or not is another story all-together .
You are right about one thing , I don't have any idea why some people are so afraid about using their real name . If I worried that much about it , I wouldn't even go out at night . Have we really devolved that much , that we sit behind our keyboards like nameless and faceless drones , typing out messages to God knows who ? I guess other people have their preceived ideas about that subject , and while I respect their view , that doesn't mean I understand it .
I have always said that the dumb criminals are in jail or prison , the smart ones are still out there , among us all . If you had worked in law enforcement as long as I had , you would also quit giving people " benefit of the doubt " . We all make choices , it is what it is .

Ed,you are wrong on several different levels on this warrant issue.
If you have a legitimate reason you can fill out a form at the Sheriffs office and have a background check performed on an individual. You can even hire a private detective to do the background check if you choose; there are many available.
Have you ever seen a "Most Wanted" list or the TV show "America's Most Wanted?", law enforcement often wants the public involved in finding people with arrest warrants.
It is obvious that business don't want to hire people who have outstanding arrest warrants and law enforcement will help them prevent that.
You have no earthly idea why someone would want to protect their identity on this board or why they want to know if arrest warrants have been issued. Have you ever heard of spousal abuse? There are places here where women are housed who are hiding from their abusive husbands. Might it be logical for such a woman to use a "male" name on this site and be interested in arrest warrants. This is just one exampe, there are many others.
Surly you know that criminals have been known to do dumber things than posting on a message board with their real name! I know from my limited experience that the occassional escapee from the Brig in Key West were picked up at either their mothers house or their girfriends house; not real smart.
Logic is OK as long as it is used with a little common sense. Sometimes you need to try the latter and perhaps throw in a little "benefit of the doubt" every once in awhile.
To close on a positive note, I often agree with your positions, just not this one.

Dakota, may God keep you and your troop under His wing and protect you as you go. My Marine son-in-law returned from Iraq several months ago and my only advice is stay in touch with family and friends as much as you can. He did and it was that strong link that made the 9 months go quickly for him, my daughter and the children.

John Doe, I always find it amazing when people do not know if they have warrants outstanding. I have never been in that position, but hear of people who are absolutely floored to learn they are wanted. Really? Is there someone who doean't know they have broken the law, or do some folks just live a certain lifestyle where a warrant can come at any time. I suggest that if you think you may possibly have a warrant for your arrest, visit the sherriff and ask.
