I was hoping we were past all the school board posts....and then I read Mr Mittons letter to the editor. He was concerned with Mr Toney posing all of the questions. I attended one of these meetings and watched the last one on knowpickens.com. Mr Toney simply read the questions that the audience submitted in advance. Many questions intended to make Mr Mitton look good I might add. What DID bother me in the last debate was how Mr Trammell and Mr Easterwood acted. I felt as if these two were attacking Mr Fincher which I found extremely unproffessional.
As for asking the superintendant questions, some of the questions had information the superintendant should have been able to verify. So why not ask? This board was responsible for hiring Mr Ballew.
My favorite statement from Mr Mitton was his concern over how the system is "portrayed". Hiding the problems doesn't make them go away! The best was to be portrayed as a GOOD SCHOOL SYSTEM is to BE a good school system.
I do agree with Mr Mittons statement "Pickens County deserves better!" Yes we do! That's why Pickens County voted in new board members!
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL 3 NEW BOARD MEMBERS!!!!!!

In fact I think it was Mr Chastain who said at one of the debates that we should just allow the High School Kids to smoke. With that logic maybe we should put cot's in a room with a bowl of condoms for the kids as well. After all kids will be kids.

2010 Graduation rates (This is the only statistic I remember Mitton mentioning)
Rabun 90.7% EconDisad 59% Fannin 90.3% 47% Gilmer 86.6% 49% Dawson 84.8% 44% Bartow 81.6% 37% Pickens 80.9% 43%
The reason I showed the Economically Disadvantaged is this is one of the things that Mitton says they have to contend with. Looks to me like we are better off finacially than most of the surrounding counties of our size.

A "Welcome to our bank" letter would be greatly appreciated. I would like to know about Renasant's services so I will know if I want to change banks. This non-communication is not helping Renansant's business! This is making me lean more toward changing banks.

Be careful which other local bank you choose (for the purpose of this post, I'm considering local to include both Pickens and Gilmer counties).
The FDIC compiles a list, quarterly I believe, that shows tells how many banks nationally, and broken down by state, are in grave danger of failing. They do not name the banks to prevent depositors from making a "run" on the banks...but the method used to determine which banks should be on the list is known.
The method is the "Texas Ratio".
What does this have with choosing a bank in Pickens or Gilmer counties?
As of June 9, 2010, on the list of 377 banks most likely to fail in the US, 4 were in either Pickens or Gilmer county, and one of those was in the top ten most likely to fail nationwide (that one hasn't failed...yet...but I'll bet there is news soon that it does.
Crescent Bank was on the list...and remember, the list came out June 9, so they are correct on that one.
Be careful where you put your money. Of the other three on the likely to fail list from Pickens and Gilmer, one is in Jasper and the other two are in Gilmer. I think you'd be shocked at which Jasper bank is on the list. I know I was.

It seems that the 20 minute ride into Canton to use a NATIONALLY known bank is worth it. We left a local bank when we over heard the woman making fun of a man who had an overdrawn bank account calling him a lousy poor man who cannot manage his money. Or the other bank on the corner by the courthouse that point blank told a woman her money was not enough for them to open an account for her daughter look elsewhere. This county is rediculous! Wake up people and get with the times. With any luck, WalMart will bring in some REAL businesses we can use, and have a NATIONAL bank inside of it!

As for the local banks being in trouble I wouldn't worry about your accounts I'd be worrying about your stock because that's where a takeover is going to hurt you. The FDIC insures your deposits and I don't see that as an issue unless the good ole USA is collapsing...possible but very doubtful. The Texas Ratio BB is talking about is a good tool to look at and you could almost "Bank on It" as it being soon to be closed list.

TO: FYI...You know folks , you just can't make this stuff up....I was channel surfing last week when I saw on CNN one of Obama's goons spouting off about the deal our " great leader " had pulled off at BP's expense . It seems a miracle that our " beloved leader " was able to convince BP to establish a $ 20 Billion slush ( oops, escrow ) fund to compensate those hurt by the oil plume in the Gulf of Mexico .
Really ? To bad this " Lefty " didn't read what was printed a couple of weeks ago in the Savannah Morning News , so lets take a close look at BP's finances . For those that know accounting , you will understand . For those that don't , do a little research . For those like Pinto , feel free to skip this post .
1) BP will establish a $20 bilion fund , but will pay only $7 billion into it during 2010.
2) By generally accepted accounting principles , BP must book the entire $20 billion expense in the year accrued . Therefore , they will book a $20 billion expense in 2010 , reducing their U.S. tax liability by $7 billion.
3) Our " dear leader " also convinced BP to show their concern for the " small people " by withholding dividends to their shareholders for the last three quarters of 2010 . This reduces their outward cash flow by about $7.5 billion , including approximately 40% of that amount to U.S. citizens . Assuming the Bush tax cuts survive through 2010 , the U.S. Treasury will lose another $450 million in taxes on that amount . We won't even discuss the effect on the U.S. economy .
So lets review :
BP cash flow :
Escrow funding -$7.00 billion Dividend saving+$7.50 billion Tax saving +$7.00 billion Net cash flow +$7.50 billion
US Treasury Tax Receipts BP corporate income tax -$7.50 billion BP shareholders -$0.45 billion Net unfavorable tax receipts for US Treasury = -$7.95 billion
Thats why I call those on the left " lemmings " , rushing headlong towards the cliff , still soaking up the propaganda spewing forth from Obama's white house.

Did someone mention ABC news as a reference? See what Joe Bite-me told ABC below (brace yourself, Ellison):
Last night, the Senate voted 61-39 in favor of a $26 billion bailout for states and government unions financed in part by an $11 billion tax hike that will kill American jobs at U.S. companies that compete overseas. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703748904575411384086577058.html?utm_source=Newsletter&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=Morning%2BBell
Worse, before that final vote was taken, the Senate also defeated two amendments by Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC), both by 58-42 votes, that would have prevented the largest tax hike in American history. And earlier this month, Vice President Joe Biden told ABC News that the only thing wrong with President Barack Obama's first $862 billion economic stimulus was that it didn't borrow and spend enough.
Speaking of the liar-in chief: He acutally celebrated the unemployment rate of 9.5% this morning, saying everything is great, moving in the right direction, etc. What he didn't tell you was: All told the U.S. economy has now lost 2.4 million jobs since President Barack Obama signed his stimulus bill, and his administration is 7.6 million jobs short of what he promised the American economy would support by 2010.
And just wait for 2011! The $3.2 trillion Obama Tax Hike in January will hit small businesses the hardest, you know the ones who create 2 out of every 3 jobs! On what planet does this make sense?

Please entertain this one truth, if nothing else: Blaming Bush Doesn't Create Jobs!!!!
(Get your search engine revved up, Ellison!) In January 2009 after it became clear that the leftist majority in Congress would pass President Barack Obama's $862 billion economic stimulus bill without a single vote from a Republican, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) defended her partisan approach, telling Politico: "Yes, we wrote the bill. Yes, we won the election."
Last Friday, some 19 months after the stimulus bill became law, the Labor Department issued its monthly jobs report showing the U.S. economy shed 131,000 jobs and unemployment tread water at 9.5% as 181,000 workers left the workforce entirely. These numbers are so terrible that the Federal Reserve is expected to downgrade its assessment of the U.S. economic outlook when it meets tomorrow.

The Bush tax cuts benefitted EVERYBODY. Capital gains, marriage penalty- gone. Death tax-gone. Top rates lowered. When Bush left office the deficit was $400 Billion after 8 years. Obama has tripled that in less than 2, with wreckless spending. Now we wait for the Obama tax increases, which historically pave the way for more spending programs (the European model). Whereas Bush (back in 2002-2003) ensured more money was left in the private economy we had a very good recovery from 9/11/01 into 2006 (curiously when the dems took over congress).
Unemployment was 4.5% to 5% until around 2007, give or take. Liberals lie about these numbers a LOT, but thankfully intelligent folks know enough to call you on it. This may not be the answer you expected, but it is truth.

Have you read the newspapers in the last year or two? do you know what the unemployment rate is today? do you still think those bush tax cuts benefited ANYONE!?!? the bush tax cuts were obviously the single most devastating transaction made by the federal government in the last 50 years, and anyone who is awake right now can see the obvious. besides, I was calling on honest, non-hypocritical conservatives - surely even you Rob, don't think you fit that bill at this point? I mean we all know how honest, consistent, and hypocritical you are here, you demonstrate it repeatedly every day...

in fact Robot, you essentially admit that virtually NO ONE benefited from the bush tax cuts: marriage penalty (only affects those that get married, and it was only about $5 anyway), capital gains (only the top 7 percent of taxpayers reported capital gains in 2005), the death tax (paid by an imperceptibly small percentage of people - less than 1 percent), and the top rates (those paid by the top 5 percent). So YOUR OWN list of EVERYONE truthfully includes almost NO ONE. What a dolt. You continue to argue for giving the ruling class more power, and you don't even know it...
