L. Faynette Griffith
    Miss L. Faynette Griffith age 88 of Talking Rock, Georgia passed on Thursday, August 15th, 2013 from the North Georgia Medical Center. Born September 25th, 1924 in Whitestone, Georgia to her late parents Olin and Amanda McCravey Griffith, she was a member of Whitestone Baptist Church, a graduate of Pickens County High School, Class of 1944, and Chattanooga Technical School.  Miss Griffith is preceded in death by brothers Duane Griffith, J.T. Griffith, and Truman Griffith.
    Survivors include sister Lucille Griffith McMullen of Jasper, GA; sister-in-law Maxine Towery Griffith of Ellijay, GA; nephews and spouse Joseph Griffith of Ellijay, GA; Dennis and Susan Griffith of Ft. Myers, FL; great-nephews Adam, Matthew and Eric Griffith; several cousins also survive.
    Funeral service was held at 11 AM Sunday, August 18th, 2013 from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Mark Johnson and Rev. Wallace Parks officiating, music and vocals by Regina Morgan. Graveside interment will follow in the McCravey Cemetery in Whitestone.  Pallbearers will be Adam Griffith, Matthew Griffith, Eric Griffith, Bernard Jones, Douglas Towery, Joe Towery, Deryl Hyde, Paul Hause and Michael Watkins.

Mary Lou Bailey
    Miss Mary Lou Bailey age 96 of Jasper, Ga. died Saturday, August 17, 2013 after period of declining health.
    She was born on September 13, 1916 in Murphy, N.C. to the late William & Martha Bailey.
Survivors include sister, Lois Burleson, Ellijay, niece, Ann Harley, Ellijay, nephew, Bill Cochran, Acworth, and friend, James Burleson.
    The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home on Sunday, August 18, 2013 from 11 AM to 9 PM and Monday from 8 AM until the funeral hour.
    Funeral Services were scheduled for 2 PM Monday, August 19, 2013 at the Roper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Ray officiating with interment to follow in Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Charlene Champion
    Roper Funeral Home and Crematory of Jasper announces the death of Ms. Charlene Champion age 73 of Jasper passed away on Wednesday August 14, 2013 at the Heritage Health Care.  She retired from Lexington Components.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Mitchell and Molly Pendley Champion, Sister, Mary Sue Hendrix, Brother, Bobby Champion, and Nephew, Johnny Hendrix.
    Funeral service was held at 1 PM Friday August 16, 2013 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Rev. Charlie Buchanan, & Rev. Danny Townsend officiating.  The interment will follow in the Russell Cemetery in Hiwassee, GA.
    She is survived by a Special Friend, Greg Murphy, Jasper, Brother & Sister-in-law, James & Bonnie Champion, Hiwassee, Nieces and Nephews,  Patsy & Jerry Thurman, Kathy & J T Childers, Wanda & Robbie Ray, Ronnie & Lisa Hendrix, David & Tammy Hendrix, Donnie Hendrix, Ricky Hendrix, C J and Geniveve Champion, Linda & Benny Collins and Bobby Gene Champion,  Several Great Nieces and Great-Nephews also survive.

Charles “Charlie” Padgett
    Roper Funeral Home and Crematory announces the death of Mr. Charles “Charlie” Padgett age 80 of Jasper who passed away on Friday August 16, 2013 at his home.  He was preceded in death by his Wife, Wylene Padgett.  Mr. Padgett retired from Lawson’s Chevrolet as a mechanic and he and his wife operated Airport Mini Speedway for many years.
He is survived by his: son,
Chuck Padgett, Jasper; Daughter & Son-in-law,                              Sheila & Allen Hyatt, Ellijay;
Grandchildren:                                  Derek & Elizabeth Hyatt, Ellijay; Daniel & Crystal Hyatt, Ellijay; Great-grandchildren, Millie Grace Hyatt, Ellijay; Reece Hyatt, Ellijay; Brother and sister-in-law Truman & Laveda Padgett, Dalton; Brother-in-law & sisters-in-law:       Gwynelle Padgett, Jasper; Carolyn & Bruce Swann, Marietta; Danny “Doodle” Jordan, Ball Ground.
    Several nieces and nephews also survive.
    The funeral service was held 2 PM Sunday, August 18, 2013 at the Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Allen, Rev. Gene Childers, and Rev. Daniel Hyatt officiating.  The interment followed in the church cemetery.

Thomas Fleming
    Mr. Thomas Morgan Fleming age 87 of Jasper, Ga. died Thursday, August 15, 2013 at his residence.
    He was born January 19, 1926 in Perryville, Md. to Paul & Mildred Fleming. Mr. Fleming served his country in the United States Navy, was a member First Christian Church of Jasper, and a member of Doric FA&M Masonic Lodge in Fort Lauderdale, Fl.
    Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Fleming; daughters & sons-in-law, Susan & Bob Champlin, Jan & Tommy Raines; grandchildren, Joe Robas, Michelle Robas, Andrea Weatherford, Dan & Star Garguilo, Bobbi & Patrick Grimaldi, Jackie Champlin, & Scott Raines; great-grandchildren, Dayton Callahan, Deanna Callahan, Ellie Weatherford, Tyler Garguilo, Jeremy Sharpe, Jaymee Sharpe, Julie Barrio-Nuevo, Madison Grimaldi, & Nevada Zak. Several nieces nephews and other relatives also survive.
    Memorial Services were held at 10 AM Monday, August 19, 2013 at First Christian Church of Jasper with Pastor Tony Boyd officiating. Graveside services were held at 12:30 PM at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga. with military graveside rights by Pickens DAV Chapter #47.
    In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to First Christian Church of Jasper.

Edna Ballew
    Mrs. Edna Ballew, age 80 of Talking Rock, Georgia died Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at the Heritage Healthcare in Jasper, following a period of declining health.
    Born April 29, 1933 in Talking Rock, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Robert Milton Edmonds and Hattie Elizabeth Collis Edmonds.  She was also preceded in death by her husband,         John Burton Ballew and a son, Wendell Ballew.  Mrs. Ballew was a homemaker and a member of the Town Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include, daughter and son-in-law, , Lori and Allen Carver of Talking Rock, Ga.; Som, Randall Ballew of Talking Rock, Ga.;  daughter-in-law, Jeanette Ballew of Talking Rock, Ga.; Grandchildren, Sheena Bryant, Sara Zeamer and Stephanie Ballew; Great-grandchildren, Tucker, Tyler and Ellie; Sister, Charlene Powell of Talking Rock, Ga.; Brother, Castle Edmonds of Talking Rock, Ga.;
    Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
    Funeral Services were held at 2 PM, Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the Roper Funeral Home, Rev. Ben Mock and Rev. Ben Langley will officiate, with the interment to follow in Town Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Conn D. Jones
    In Loving Memory of Mr. Conn D. Jones, age 68, of Tate, entered into rest on Friday, August 16, 2013 at Grandview Health Care Center.
    Mr. Jones is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Robin Jones of Cohutta; daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Scott White of Decatur, TN; brothers and sister-in-law, Larry Jones of Marietta, Lanier and Elaine Jones of Dahlonega; sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha and Travis Rowell of South Carolina, Jenita and L.V. Dodson of Chatsworth.  Mr. Jones had 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and special friends Jeanette Woods and Scott Wilkins.
    The graveside service was held at 1 PM Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Sharp Top Baptist Church Cemetery with prayer by Richard Rogers. Serving as pallbearers were Duane Dodson, Rodney Parker, Shawn Reeves, Brandon Reeves, Paul Whitaker and Richard Rogers.

Ben Evans
    In Loving Memory of Mr. Ben Evans, age 81, of Fairmount, who entered into rest on Monday, August 12, 2013 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
    Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Ann Evans of Fairmount; son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Lee Ann Cochran of Ellijay; daughter and son-in-law, Kristy and Darrel Darby of Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Ruth Ann Evans of Holly Springs.  Mr. Evans had 5 grandchildren, Jake Ratcliff, Caitlin Darby, Jessica Ratcliff, Kali Cochran, Eli Cochran and several nieces and nephews also survive.
    The funeral service was held at 2 PM Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Cagle Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby McFarland officiating.  Interment followed at the Jasper City Cemetery with Local Chapter 47 DAV in charge of military rites.  Serving as pallbearers were Kyle Cochran, Eli Cochran, Darrel Darby, Jake Ratcliff, Byron Long, Ricky Westbrook and Chris Evans.

Virginia Wheeler
    Virginia Christine Wheeler, 82, went to be with the Lord Jesus on Sunday, August 18, 2013. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland E. Wheeler, Sr. and parents, John and Ruby Printz.
    She is survived by her daughter, Beth Harper of Jasper; son, Garland E. Wheeler, Jr. of Morrow; daughter, Jennifer (Tom) Barber of Fayetteville; daughter, Linda Wheeler of Marietta; grandchildren, Christine Barber, Rachel Barber and Kara Barber all of Fayetteville; also, nieces and nephews.
    A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 11 AM at Westview Cemetery, 1680 Westview Drive, S.W., Atlanta, GA, 30310.         Those desiring may make donations to the American Diabetes Association, 225 Peachtree St., N.E., #550, Atlanta, GA, 30303.

Opal Green
    Mrs. Opal Louise Green, 78, of Canton, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Northside Hospital Cherokee.
    Funeral services are scheduled for 2 PM on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Larry Phillips officiating.  Interment will follow in Lake Forest Memorial Park. 
    Mrs. Green was a homemaker and enjoyed fishing, camping and going to the beach.
    Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Kenneth Green of Canton; children, Kenny (Nancy) Green of Fairmount, Cheryl Green of Atlanta and Melissa (Russell) Jackson of Canton; brother, Junior (Shirley) Lawson of Jasper; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Nola Lawson of Canton; several nieces and nephews.
