Fountain nominated for Georgia Country Male Artist of the Year

Thomas Fountain needs your votes

thomasfountain Jasper-born Thomas Fountain has made it into the semi-finals for the title of Georgia County Male Artist of the Year through and he needs your help taking home the title.

Fountain, who was raised in Jasper and who currently lives Ball Ground, is one of 12 remaining musicians competing in this category in the state.
Fountain was a former member of the popular local cover band 53 West, but stepped away from music for a while before returning last year with a new vision and a new direction.

“When I came back in I knew that I wanted to do my own songs,” he said. “I knew where I wanted to go. I just started playing solo shows in October of 2012 and everything is happening really fast, but it did not happen overnight.”
Fountain is in the process of recording an all-original EP with plans to release it this fall. After a year playing in a duo with guitarist John Brightwell, Fountain recently added a full band and they are playing a variety of venues in North Georgia and the Atlanta area.
The Jasper musician has also branched out and has been participating in songwriters’ workshops, contests and shows.
“I really love the listening rooms,” said Fountain, who also works as a P.E. teacher in Woodstock. “This is a new thing for me. I mean, bars are good and are fun to play at, but people don’t really want to hear your originals. At these places they are there to hear your songs and listen to your lyrics.”
On Saturday, Sept. 28 Thomas and his band will also be playing at a country musicians’ showcase at the 120 Tavern & Music Hall in Marietta for the Atlanta/Nashville-based record label Average Joes Entertainment, which helped launch the careers of Colt Fort and Montgomery Gentry.
“We’d love for people to come out and listen,” Fountain said.
If you would like to help Thomas be one of six contestants to make it into the final round of the competition for Georgia Male Country Artist of the Year be sure to visit and cast your vote before noon on August 31.
The top six finalist will be announced on Sunday, September 1st at 3 p.m. Finalists in each artist category will be invited to attend the awards show at the 120 Tavern that will be hosted and emceed by 92.5FM's The Bear.
