Christmas winds howled, but no serious damage reported here

Pickens county personnel manned the emergency operation center (EOC) Christmas night, but no calls other than downed trees and power outages were reported.

County Fire Chief Bob Howard was on hand in the EOC starting late in evening on Christmas ahead of reports of damaging storms in Alabama. “We kept it open as a precaution, but the only reports were downed trees, mainly in Bent Tree, and power outages," he said

Howard said almost all power should have been restored in the county by 9 a.m. Wednesday.

A statement issued from Amicalola EMC stated, "Winds swept through our service area last night leaving downed trees and broken poles. After a peak of approx 3200 members out of power, currently there are approx 2000, primarily in Gilmer County. Crews have worked through the night and will continue until all power has been restored. Visit to view current outages. Report all outages to the following numbers only: 706-253-0359, 706-276-0359, or 706-864-0359. Please stay away from all downed power lines and always assume they are still energized."
