When producer Max Bialystock sings about little old ladies, he says “They’re my angels.” In reality, an “angel” is a financial backer of the theatre. As such, the little old ladies in the show are providing money for Max to stage plays. And backers they are. As Max raises two million dollars to produce Springtime for Hitler. The little old ladies are so impressed with Max’s fundraising techniques that they dance and sing in his honor.
Roberta Sarchet is the first of the little old ladies to appear in The Producers. With a visit to Max’s office with a check, she launches us into the plot that revolves around her and her counterparts. The ladies appear throughout the show, so if you are looking for a laugh, watch for them.
The role of little old lady was sought after by many because of the fun the part brings to the stage. Many of these actors have been seen on the Tater Patch stage in a variety of roles. Some are new to Tater Patch and have proved to be very talented additions for the troupe. While watching, you will marvel at the ability of these characters to dance, sing and make you laugh. It is more than worth the price of a ticket to see the “Little Old Lady Land” song and dance.
