Saturday, May 23, Pickens High School will hold graduation ceremonies for the 235 seniors of the class of 2009. The ceremony will start at 9 a.m. at the school football field. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be at the same time but in the new gymnasium. Principal Chris Williams said this was about the same number of seniors that graduated last year. Williams, who is in his second year as principal, said this group started as freshman the same year he began at PHS as an assistant principal. He said there were many highlights during the years this class spent at Pickens High, and they were a very good group. “This class has a maturity level to go into life after high school whether it’s more education, the workforce or starting a family,” the principal said. Shuttle Bus Service available for the PHS 2009 Graduation Saturday, May 23 The Pickens County Board of Education Transportation Department will again provide shuttle bus service as part of the Pickens High School 2009 Graduation exercise. Buses will depart from the parking lot of the Pickens County Middle School, 1802 Refuge Road, and the parking lot at Appalachian Technical College, 100 Campus Drive. Shuttle service will begin at 7:45 a.m. at both locations. Shuttles will continue to run at 10-minute intervals from these locations to Pickens High School before, during and after the graduation ceremonies.
