Memorial Day ceremonies will be held Monday, May 29th at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Jasper at 10 a.m.
In addition to a 21-gun salute and the National Anthem, U.S. Marine Corps Col. Mitchell Swan will deliver the keynote speech.
Col. Swan graduated from Marquette University’s Business School and the NROTC program in Milwaukee in 1987 with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He went on to earn an MBA at Chaminade University of Honolulu in Hawaii.
He served as Lead Instructor at the Navy Supply Corps School in Athens. After leaving active duty to raise a family and pursue a career, he returned to the Marines in 2001. His last active-duty assignment was developing U.S. policy for the Middle East as a staff officer with U.S. Central Command in Tampa. He was also a candidate for U.S. Congress for the 10th District of Georgia. He recently published a book, Broken Arrow: Christ’s Last Stand, about a spiritual warfare facing the world. He posits that freedoms enjoyed by Western nations are on the brink of ruin due to weakening Christian leadership and devotion.
