Two hundred and sixty-six seniors will take their final high school walk Saturday morning during the Pickens High School commencement ceremony in Dragon Stadium.
Graduation will begin at 9 a.m. on May 28th, recalling the class of 2016’s high school days while celebrating their future in college, the workforce, or the military.
The community is welcome at the graduation ceremony and those attending are encouraged to utilize the shuttles leaving from Pickens County Middle School and Chattahoochee Tech beginning at 7:40 a.m. for transport to Pickens High.
Senior Class Vice President Jacob Campbell will deliver the invocation followed by the National Anthem performed by the Pickens High Symphonic Band. Senior Class Secretary and Salutatorian Ginny Morris will introduce this year’s speaker, Debbie Roper, before delivering her own salutatory address.
Hannah Kilpatrick will give the valedictorian address before Superintendent Dr. Lula Mae Perry, Dr. Chris LeMieux and Tucker Green, senior class president, award the class of 2016 their diplomas. Following the class song, Tucker Green will deliver the president’s speech and the senior class, led by the PHS Chorus Ensemble, will sing the Alma Mater.
The new graduates will depart to their class song, “See You When I See You” by Jason Aldean.
Free shuttle service will be available at Pickens County Middle School and Chattahoochee Technical College on Saturday, May 28th for the PHS graduation ceremony. There will be four large buses along with one special education bus at each location for a total of 10 buses.
Shuttles will arrive at PCMS, 1802 Refuge Rd., and Chattahoochee Tech, 100 Campus Dr., at 7:40 a.m. All buses will depart those schools by 8:10 a.m. in order to arrive at the high school by the 9 a.m. start of graduation. “If a bus gets full at 7:45 a.m. that bus will go ahead and head over to the high school but all buses will depart at 8:10 a.m.,” said Sherry Howell with the school system’s transportation department. Buses will remain at the high school until the ceremony concludes and will depart back to PCMS and Chatt. Tech.
