“Memorial Day is a day our country has set aside as a holiday to remember all who gave their lives so that our great nation could continue to shine as a beacon of freedom, and all Americans could continue to enjoy the blessings of liberty.
“On this day we should reaffirm the values that these men and women fought for that made this nation great.”
These words were written by a member of Marine Corps League Det. #1280, one of the organizers of this year’s memorial day ceremony to be held at the Sunrise Memorial Gardens on Highway 53 in Jasper, across the street from McDonald’s (Please note that Google maps will not give you the correct address if you are planning to attend).
Ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. and will feature keynote speaker Young Marine Staff Sgt. Jason T. Greene, the southeast coordinator for the U.S. Marine Corps’ Wounded Warriors Regiment.
Colors will be presented by Gen. Raymond Davis of the Young Marine Detachment of Greater Atlanta. Amberley Clark will perform the National Anthem. The DAV will present the 21-gun salute. The ceremony will conclude with the playing of Taps by Don Ware.
The public is invited to attend to honor those who gave their lives protecting our country.
