Driver who left fatal wreck scene located

GSP and other emergency personnel on the scene of a fatal wreck that occured earlier Thursday. 

 

Updated: The driver has been located. She was being questioned and is expected to face charges. She was found through a tip in the general vicinity where the fatal wreck occurred.

 

  Law enforcement agents with the Ga. State Patrol and Pickens sheriff are looking for a driver who left the scene of a fatal wreck on Dry Pond Road at about 1 p.m. (today) Thursday, April 21.

  Captain Kris Stancil said a woman, identified by several witnesses as Shanda Sperin, drove away from a fatal accident where a person, whose identity has not been released, was killed while driving a go-cart type vehicle on Dry Pond Road.

   Stancil described the vehicle as a go cart with a roll bar.

   The accident is considered a hit and run, according to a post on the Pickens Sheriff’s Facebook.

  “The State Patrol is asking for the public's assistance in locating Shanda Sperin,” according to the Facebook post. “Ms. Sperin is wanted for questioning regarding the accident. She was was seen driving a gray Ford Ranger truck that should have damage to the front end and bumper. If you have information on where she may be located, please contact 911.”

What was the subjected charged and convicted of. Do yall ever do follow ups on stories?

We did an update in October of 2016. Case still had not gone to trial, but the driver was indicted on 15 charges including homicide by vehicle.
