Pet owners charged with neglect but identity of dog shooter still unknown

    In late January, two dogs were found shot in Waleska. One was disemboweled. Officials are still looking for the person(s) responsible for the shooting.

    On Wednesday, Jan. 27, two pit bull mix dogs were found shot to death along Friendship Road near Waleska, Ga.
    While the person(s) responsible for the shooting death of the dogs has not been identified and the case investigation is ongoing, awaiting necropsy and ballistic reports, the investigation into the deaths of the two dogs has resulted in the owners being charged with the following county ordinance violations; Two counts of Unrestrained Animal; Two counts of Animal Neglect/Inadequate Vet Care; and two counts Without Proof of Rabies Inoculation.
    Investigation revealed the dogs both suffered from neglect before they were shot and killed and not cared for in a manner that was humane and proper.
    The owners are identified as Brenda Louise Gravely of Canton, and Sarah Kerstetter, also of Canton.
    The investigation into this crime continues and anyone with information is asked to contact the Cherokee County Marshal’s Office.
