Statistics show PHS roundabout could cut crashes

pickens-county-schools-seal

According to Pickens’ GDOT engineer, the state agency wants a roundabout at Highway 53 and Dragon Drive to improve driver safety at an intersection that produces a high number of crashes.
Speaking to the Pickens County Board of Education, GDOT Area 1 Engineer Sam Wheeler said the intersection is a “viable location” for a small to moderately sized roundabout. He pitched the traffic solution to the board, citing the roundabout’s increased popularity with GDOT based on a reduced rate and severity of crashes, as well as minimal maintenance.

I wish Mr. Wheeler would worry about putting traffic lights at dangerous intersections. Ones like, Antioch Church Road and Highway 515! Not to mention Harmony School Road and Highway 515. I think enough people have been killed or injured at those intersections (especially Antioch Church Road) to merit traffic lights.
