Armed robbery at Jasper Save-A-Lot

Jasper Police and the GBI  are investigating an armed robbery at the Save-A-Lot Thursday night about 10 p.m. after the store had closed.

Employees said two white males with hoodies hiding their faces approached the store when a single employee was closing. One smashed the front door with a baseball bat and both entered. One was armed with a handgun.

They took only cash and fled on foot.

A full contingent of police, sheriff’s officials and GBI investigators have all been on the scene over night.

One arrest was made by the officers working this case. But, Sgt. Matt Dawkins with the Jasper Police said, “This arrest was not connected to the store robbery." He said he was not releasing details on that arrest as the investigation is still underway.

Save-A-Lot Manager Donnie Copeland said the employee who was closing was extremely shaken up, but not injured. The store was closed mid-morning Friday as investigators continue to work inside, including taking shoe prints.

“Nothing like this has ever happened here,” he said. “The worst thing we have ever had was the Coke machines being broken into.”

WHY ONLY ONE EMPLOYEE CLOSING!! That's a major red flag, possibly a set up cos everyone knows having only one employee is an incredible risk!!!

Prayers for the employee from Bill, Beth and the Veterans Automotive family. Like Jerry stated, we are not going to stand by and allow criminals to invade the peace and wholesome lifestyle we enjoy in Pickens County. We will stand with our community and protect the innocent from harm. If you have criminal intent in our county, and you are reading this, I highly recommend you stand down.

My prayers are with the person that was closing the store. I know that had to be very scary I am so glad no one was hurt. For the ones that did this once you are caught and you will be you will have plenty of time to think about the fact was it really worth it ? Your days will be long and hard no more outside just walls and bars..I could not handle that I love my freedom.
