Opt-Out mom says no to school’s standardized test

Joe and Katherine White's children are being Opted Out of the Ga. Milestone tests by their parents. Ms. White said she didn’t want to let her kids be “guinea pigs” for a hastily done, unproven statewide test. Printed on the back of the girls’ t-shirts are the reason why their parents are opting them out of testing.

When Pickens elementary and middle school students started answering questions this week on the Georgia Milestones test, at least two students will be reading books and not answering any of the questions.

Katherine White, the mother of two Hill City Elementary students, said she has no beef with the local system, but is invoking her right to withhold her children from the statewide standardized tests.

"Child 1" and "Child 2" look to me like nothing more than guinea pigs for a test of how many times a kid can be failed for not taking the standardized test...

Most Baby Boomers know standardized test do not truly reflect what a person knows. I know of several persons that do not do well on test, but ask material later can answer correctly.
Also, know persons that could flip a coin and pass a test.
Essay questions are most reliable. a Person will write as much as they can remember... Its like going to the doctor and your blood pressure is high at office but never high anywhere else!

I would have left the "I believe in public education" off the shirt. The only problem with opting out is one day they will have to take SAT's or similiar test if they want to go to college.
