Billy Burnette, Jr.
Mr. William Herbert ?Billy? Burnette, Jr., age 73 of Talking Rock, Ga., passed on Saturday evening, Dec. 19, 2009 at his residence.
Born August 4, 1936 to his late parents, Genevieve Elizabeth Thomas and William Herbert Burnette, Sr., in Talking Rock, he was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, a graduate of Gilmer High School, class of 1955, a Life Member and Alumni of the Future Farmers of America, member of the Georgia Cattlemen?s Association and Young Farmers Association. He attended Young Harris and North Georgia colleges, he was a veteran who served his country honorably in the US Army and was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Betty Hicks Burnette of the home; daughters and son-in-law, Teri and Jeff Gibson, Talking Rock, and Paula Burnette Holder, Ellijay; son and daughter-in-law, Brett and Stephanie Burnette, Talking Rock; grandchildren and in-law, Candace and Brian Poole, Talking Rock, Holli Holder, Ellijay, and Baylee, Beth and Bree Burnette, Talking Rock; sisters, Jeanette Burnette Coleman, Smyrna, and Anne Burnette Ellis and Helen Burnette Mashburn, Kennesaw; and brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Linda Burnette, Talking Rock. He was preceded in death by his sister, Bennie Miller.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21 from Logan Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Russell Hood and Larry Stover officiating. Music and vocals were performed by the Rev. Irene Wofford, Ronnie and Linda Hyde, Whitney Burnette and Isaac Hensley. Military graveside services followed in the funeral home pavilion with military rites performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Interment was in Keeter Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Liberty Baptist Youth Group, c/o Jerry Moss, 271 Orchard Rd., Ellijay, Ga. 30540 or Gilmer County FFA, 408 Bobcat Trail, Ellijay, Ga. 30540 in memory of Mr. Burnette.
Mr. James Howell Goble, age 73 of Fairmount, Ga., departed this life Friday, Jan. 1, 2010 at Gordon Hospital.
James was born June 27, 1936 in Pickens County, a son of the late Bill and Jane Young Goble. He was also preceded in death by his son, Robin Edward Goble; daughter, Sharon Joy Goble; and sister, Ollie Perry.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 1/2 years, Sue Goble of the residence; sons and daughter-in-law, Richard Goble, Fairmount, and Reggie and Jessica Goble, Calhoun; sister, Jewel Watson, Calhoun; grandchildren, Angela Matthews, Jonathan and Tony Osborne, Blake Goble, Avery Fain and Rylan Goble; great-grandchildren, Cecilia and Holly Matthews and Aubrie Osborne; and sisters- and brothers-in-law, Annie Mae ?Ellis? Owens, William Jean Brookshire, Dimple and Arvil Townsend, Nancy and Colbert Cox, Patsy and Ray Patterson, Glynese and Roy Pierce, Harold Perry, John and Ann Hancock, Jacky and Ailene Hancock, David Hancock, Clarence Hancock, Gary and Nancy Hancock and Steve Hancock. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Goble was held Monday, Jan. 4 at 2 p.m. from Fairmount Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home.
Ted David Williams, age 55 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009 in Chattanooga. Tn. hospital.
Private services will be held later. Arrangements were by South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Hone & Crematory in Rossville, Ga.
Mrs. Frances Winters, age 83 of the Jerusalem Community, passed at her residence Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Betty Winters and Tom and Darlene Winters, all of Talking Rock; daughters and son-in-law, Doris Fowler, Talking Rock, and Carol and David King, Jerusalem Community; brother, Earl Smith. Canton; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Bertha Cantrell, Dalton, Dorothy Bowen, Waleska, and Catherine and Rembert Cochran, Jasper. Eight grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Winters was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Winters.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 2 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Wallace Cochran and Ronnie Ray officiating. Interment followed in Cherokee Memorial Park in Cherokee County. Pallbearers were: Joseph and Jeffery Winters, Mike King, Anthony Flower, Anthony House and Michael Smith.
Mrs. Shirley Pendley Herndon, age 70 of Marble Hill, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2009 at her residence.
Survivors include her son, Buster Herndon, Marble Hill; daughters and son-in-law, Becky Mosher, Nelson, Lynn Dean, Marble Hill, and Sheila and Roger Davis, Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, Terry and Brenda Pendley, Dawsonville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Naomi and Jimmy Baldwin, Ball Ground, Colleen and George Slaton, Dawsonville, and Marie Higgins and Winell Ingram, both of Marble Hill; and sister-in-law, Mildred Pendley, Canton. Ten grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Herndon was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Cleo Pendley; and brother, Wilburn Pendley.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3 from Marble Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Huey Holloway officiating. Interment followed in Long Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Chris Collins, Chris Baldwin, Josh Herndon, John Davis, Russell Cohen and Paul Ridings. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Thomas Anthony ?Tom? Haney, age 51 of Jasper, Ga., died Monday, Jan. 4, 2010 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta following a period of declining health.
Born May 5, 1958 in Atlanta, he was the son of the late Thomas George and Mildred Buffington Haney. Mr. Haney worked as a network analyst for the Cherokee Board of Education and as a radio announcer with Radio Station WLJA in Jasper.
Survivors include his wife, Nance Karr, Jasper; daughter, Amberly Haney, Jasper; sister, Sandra Foster, Atlanta; and mother-in-law, Catherine Cooper West Palm Beach, Fl. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Von J. Hinton officiating. At his request, Mr. Haney was cremated following the funeral service.
