John Teague

 

Rev. John C. Teague, 84, of Chickamauga, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Hospice of Chattanooga Care Center.

A native of Pickens County, Georgia, Rev. Teague had spent the greater part of his life in the Chattanooga and north Georgia areas and had served as pastor of several churches, including Valley View Baptist in Flintstone, Friendship Baptist in LaFayette, and Salem Road  Baptist in Rossville. He had preached the word of God for 54 years and was also a master carpenter, having worked for Mark K. Wilson Construction and Varnell Construction where he retired. Rev. Teague was preceded in death by his parents, John Sherman & Lila Teague, and infant son, Stephen Nathaniel Teague.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Lillie Louise Teague; son and daughter-in-law, Calvin Dewayne & Nancy Teague of Chickamauga; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Gene Teague, Cartersville, GA & Allen Teague of Calhoun, GA; sister, Ruth Kolwyck of Chickamauga; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 27th at 1 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Rev. Lowell Cantrell and Rev. Drew Tankersley officiating. Interment followed in Forest Hills Cemetery.

Walter Bogas

 

July 1, 1930 – August 29, 2018

 

Walter Bogas, 88, of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at Pruitt Health in Jasper. He was born July 1, 1930 to George and Anna Bogas of Long Island, New York.

He enjoyed golf, tennis, hiking, and traveling with his wife and friends. He impacted his community with his service at Good Samaritan for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Bogas of Bent Tree; daughter and son-in-law, Samantha and Rocky Anzalone of Staton Island, New York; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Tina Bogas of Staton Island, New York; grandchildren, Dominique Bogas, Alexis Bogas, Joseph Anzalone, Frank Anzalone, Michael Anzalone; brother, Maurice Brown of California; sister, Rachael Woodin of White Plains, New York.  

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at Georgia National Cemetery (1080 Veterans Cemetery Road; Canton, GA 30114.)

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Good Samaritan (175 Samaritan Way; Jasper, GA  30143) or Keep Bent Tree Beautiful (40 Little Pine Mountain Road, #20202; Jasper, GA  30143.)

Dorothy Kelley

 

September 28, 1935 – August 28, 2018

 

Dorothy Sue Kelley, 82, of the Jerusalem Community of Pickens County passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2018. She was born September 28, 1935 to Taft and Limmer Kelley of Pickens County.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Doug Wilkins of Jasper; granddaughter and her husband, Bobbie and Ryan Harbour; grandson, Chris Wilkins; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Jacob, Selena, and Rylan; sister and brother-in-law, Georgia and Wade Chastain; brother, Arvil Kelley; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Geraldine Kelley.  Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Dot worked at HD Lee Company and Newmark Rugs before retiring. She was a member of Ludville Church of God. One of her greatest joys was to have company and try to overfeed them. She was a kind and gentle soul who was deeply loved and will be missed always.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 30, 2018 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Gerald Young officiating.

Booker Clark

 

April 26, 1930 - September 2, 2018

 

Mr. B.W. "Dub" Clark, 88, of the Hinton Community passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018 at his residence. 

Mr. Clark is survived by his wife, Doris Clark of the Hinton Community; sons and daughters-in-law, Danny & Pam Clark of Fairmount, and Doug and Christi Clark of the Hinton Community; son, David Clark of the Hinton Community; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 5 in the Cagle Funeral Chapel. Rev. Kenny Green officiating. 

Pallbearers: Danny Clark, Doug Clark, David Clark, Justin Childers, Tony Turner and Jon Clark. 

Honorary Pallbearers. Johnny Clark, Dustin Clark and Jacob Edwards. 

Interment will be at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery immediately following the funeral services.

 Robert Pettigrew

September 23, 1952 - August 31, 2018

 

Mr. Robert Pettigrew, 65, of Jasper passed away Friday, August 31, 2018 at Northside Hospital Cherokee. 

Mr. Pettigrew is survived by his wife, Brenda Gail Pettigrew of Hill City Community; daughter, Diane Brooks of Jasper; brother, Tommy Garrison of Jasper; sisters, Peggy Pettigrew of Jasper, Martha Grizzle of Jasper and Joyce Owens of Talking Rock. 

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 2 at 5 p.m. in the Cagle Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Travis Childers officiating.

Pallbearers: Danny Wilson, Mickey Grizzle, Jerry O'Shields, Doug Anderson, Tyler Logan and Tony Wilson.

Honorary Pallbearer: Marty Wilson. 

Interment was held at Sunrise Memorial Gardens immediately following the funeral services.

Forrest Tidwell

May 12, 1928 - August 30, 2018

 

Mr. Forrest Tidwell, 90, of the Hill City Community passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Northside Hospital Forsyth. 

Mr. Tidwell is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Michelle Tidwell of Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Jacki and Jem Hames of Jasper and Janni and Allen Ray of Jasper; sister, Melva Roper of Dallas, GA; grandchildren, Rebekah Duncan, Robert Hames and wife Ashley, Billy Joe Hames and wife Amberly, Aaron Ray, Emma Mayeaux and husband Kameron, Stephanie Aguilar and Juan, Aspen Lusk, Sommer and Lucas Dedmon and Corey Hamrick; great-grandchildren, Bo Gilreath, James Gilreath, Camden Hames, Sawyer Watkins, Mia Aguilar, Natalie Aguilar. 

Funereal services were held Monday, September 3 at 4 p.m. in the Cagle Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Huey Holloway and Rev. Cliff Barns officiating. 

Pallbearers: Tim Smith, Tommy Roper, Robert Hames, Billy Joe Hames, Bo Gilreath, James Gilreath, Frank Martin.

Interment was at Lake Forest Memorial Park immediately following the funeral services.

Neva Moss

December 19, 1960 - August 29, 2018

 

Ms. Neva Kay Moss, 57, of Ball Ground, passed away August 29, 2018 at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital.

Ms. Moss is survived by her fiancé, Charles Jones of Ball Ground; brothers and sisters-in-law, Phillip and Brenda Moss of Talking Rock, Greg and Donna Moss of Jasper, Marty and Shelty Moss of Talking Rock; and brother, Benjamin Moss of Ball Ground; nieces, Cindy and Kylely Stone and several other nieces and nephews. Ms. Moss was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace Moss and Catherine Moss and brother and sister-in-law,  Ronnie and Mollie Moss. Also special friends, Starr Timmonds, Linda Ray, & Pam Richardson.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Tabernacle. Rev. Scott Lawson, Rev. Greg Bryant and Rev. Daniel Reeves officiating.

Pall Bearers: Marty E. Moss, Brandon J. Moss, Blake L. Moss, Charles Jones, Chris Wilkie and Kylely Stone. Honorary Pall Bearers: Kane Stone, Ben Moss and Roy Moss.

Internment was held in the Lake Forest Memorial Park immediately following the funeral services.

Hank Wilson, Sr.

October 19, 1950 - August 28, 2018

 

Mr. Hank Gene Wilson, Sr, 67, of Centre, Alabama passed away August 28, 2018 at Cartersville Medical Center.

Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Wilson; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Michelle Wilson of Jasper and Hank Wilson, Jr and Katie Green of Hinton Community; daughter and son-in law, Crystal and John Jones of Fairmount; brothers, Billy Boring of Florida, James Woody, Jr of Ludville Community; sisters, Kathy Beck of Whitestone, Donna Wilkins of Whitestone, Carletta Sosebee of Jasper and Gail Fountain of Ludville Community. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 31st at 2 p.m. from the Cagle Funeral Home Chapel. Rev Joseph Hightower & Rev. Bobby Timms, officiating. 

Pallbearers: Jerry Wilson, Jr, Jacob Hank Wilson, Tyler Gene Wilson, Joshua Michael Wilson, Cole Wilson & Jon Wilson.

Interment was held in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens immediately following the funeral services.

Bradley Cochran

December 19, 1979 - August 27, 2018

 

Mr. Brad Cochran, 38, of the Jerusalem Community passed away Monday, August 27, 2018.

Mr. Cochran is survived by his father, Danny Cochran of Fairmount; mother, Rita Thomason of Jasper; grandmother, Bessa Cochran;  wife, Shelly Cochran; grandmother, Bessa Cochran; sons, Colby Cochran of Ellijay, Cole Cochran of Jasper and Clayton Cochran of Ellijay; daughters, Kendall Cochran of Ellijay, Tavan Cochran of Jasper and Ashlynn Cochran of Jasper; brother, Chad Cochran of Pickens; sister, Mollie Mullins of Jasper; several nieces and nephews also survive. 

Mr. Cochran was preceded in death by his grandfather, Cecil Cochran.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 3 at 2 p.m. in the Cagle Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Joseph Hightower officiating.

Pallbearers: Danny Childers, Chuck Hilton, Robert White, Preston Reeves, Kylie Stone, Willie Garrett, Colby Cochran, and Chad Cochran.

Interment was held at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery immediately following the funeral services.

February 27, 1946 - August 19, 2018

 

Mrs. Martha Bland, 72, of the Jerusalem Community passed away Sunday, August 19, 2018 at her residence.

Mrs. Bland is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, John and Lori Sturgeon of Rome, Jeff and Shelia Sturgeon of Pickens, James & Judy Sturgeon of Blue Ridge and David and Shelly Bland of Pickens; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and George Chambers of Rome; brothers, Paul Elswick of FL, Phillip Elswick of Pickens, John Elswick of OH, and Michael Elswick of FL; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary & Roy Stanaland of Pickens, Carol and Johnny Sawyer of VA; sisters, Cansas Elswick of OH, Ruth Elswick of VA and Evelyn Elswick of OH; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. 

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 21 at 6 p.m. in the Cagle Funeral Home Chapel.

To the Worshipful Master, Warden, and Brethren of Pickens Star Lodge #220 F&A.M. Jasper, Georgia

Whereas, on  August 5, 2018  it was the will of the Grand Architect of Heaven and Earth to Call from Labor to Refreshment our beloved Brother Arthur B. Atkins.

And whereas we, his brethren, feel keenly his absence from our midst and while we humbly bow to the 

Will of our Infinite Creator, we desire to make a suitable Memorial, therefore:

Be it resolved that Pickens Star Lodge No. 220 F&A.M. express to the family of our departed Brother, 

Deepest sympathy and wish to express our gratitude for his life of service among us.
