Lloyd Cloud

July 17, 1938 – October 27, 2015


Mr. Lloyd Benson Cloud, age 77, of Jasper, Georgia passed away October 27, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Cloud was born July 17, 1938 to Lloyd and Geraldine Cloud in Cherokee County, Georgia.  He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Cloud of Jasper; daughters, Angela Cloud Jones of Dahlonega,  Melissa Mabry of Jasper; sister, Barbara Albertson of Stockbridge.   Seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Geraldine Cloud and son, Michael B. Cloud.

A graveside service for Mr. Cloud was held 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Lake Forest Memorial Park. The family accepted flowers or donations may be made to Georgia Mountains Hospice (70 Caring Way; Jasper, GA 30143) in honor of Mr. Cloud. 

Arrangements were entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home & Crematory.


Geraldine Mathews

Mrs. Geraldine G. “Memaw” Mathews, age 86, of Fairmount, Ga. departed this life Thursday afternoon, October 29, 2015 at the home of her son in Pickens County, Georgia. Memaw was born October 17, 1929 in Calhoun, Georgia, the only child of the late Henry Woodfin and Angie Ila Dean Hightower. She was also preceeded in death by her loving husband, Homer L. Mathews who died Sept. 2, 1984; a stillborn son who died April, 1952; a son, Charles Kenneth “Rosey” Mathews who died November 1, 2007; a son-in-law, Wayne Mann and a daughter-in-law, Verlene Mathews. 

Memaw loved to do needle work, quilt, listening to gospel music, especially the Inspirations. But the true love of her life was her family who will miss her dearly.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sybil and Steve Crider, Sandra and David Bruch, all of Fairmount, Gail and Randy Burch of Calhoun, Karen and Tony Cannon of Plainview, Ga; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry “Lum” Mathews, Randy Joe “Boo Boo” and Cheryle Mathews, all of Fairmount, James “Flute” and Patricia Mathews of Cartersville, Ga. Donald “Goat” and Deborah Mathews of Ranger, Ga., Gary “Bull” and Sherry Mathews of Jasper, Tim “Waldo” and Teresa Mathews, Ann Mathews, all of Calhoun; 23 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Geraldine “Memaw” Mathews were held November 2 at Ponders Fairmount Chapel with Reverend Reggie Temples and Casey Mathews officiating. Music was provided by Alan Price and Regina Mathews. She was laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery in Cherokee County, Ga., with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Ponders Fairmount Chapel was in charge of arrangements. 


Reba Bryant

December 22, 1945 – October 30, 2015


Reba Nell Bryant, age 69, of Jasper passed away Friday, October 30, 2015 at Dekalb Medical.  She was born to James and Ruby Anderson on December 22, 1945 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mrs. Bryant is survived by daughter, Rebecca Rewis of Jasper; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Stanley Segler of Los Angeles, California; grandchildren, Lindsay Chadwick of Savannah, Georgia, Kendall Dorden of Jasper, Savanah Rewis of Jasper, Courtney Dorden of Jasper; and great-grandchild, Cooper Chadwick.

The funeral service was held Sunday, November 1, 2015 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Ben Langley officiating. Interment was at Hill Crest Cemetery in East Point.

Arrangements were entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home.

Adez Johnson

October 21, 1926 – October 31, 2015


Mrs. Adez Childers Johnson, age 89, of Jasper passed away Saturday morning, October 31, 2015 at her home.  

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Vanessa Harbin of Jasper, Nancy and Lonnie Sexton of Ball Ground; grandchildren, Joseph Harbin of Jasper, Jonathan and Karen Sexton of Ball Ground; great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Maverick Sexton of Ball Ground; brother and sister-in-law, Lamar and Dot Childers of Jasper; sisters, Regina Dean of Jasper, Elaine Thomason of Jasper; and sister-in-law, Jo Childers.   A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Rev. Jonathan Sexton, Rev. Daniel McCoy, and Rev. Nathan Smith officiating. The interment  followed in the Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers are Joseph Harbin, Brad Dean, Greg Childers, Jerry Long, Rodney Wheeler, and Buddy Goforth.  Honorary Pallbearers are Carter, Joe, and Sam Logan and Jamie Haynes.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home.



TSgt William Henry Lunsford, USAF (Ret.)


Warner Robins – TSgt William Henry Lunsford, USAF (Ret.), 88, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2015.

William was born on July 25, 1927 in Talking Rock, Georgia to the late Joseph and Ruth Kirby Lunsford. It was with great honor and pride that he enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his Air Force career William served in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. After many honorable years of service he retired from the Air Force with the rank of Tech Sergeant. William then proceeded to open and operate the Jasper OTASCO store and became a member of the Jasper, Georgia Masonic Lodge. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and above all else, he treasured time spent with his beloved family. 

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife 70 years, Virginia Evans Lunsford of Warner Robins; daughters, Ann Gregory (Howard) of Kathleen, Sue Roman (Jesse) of Hampton, Virginia; along with his grandchildren, Suzanne Gregory, Angela Carrillo, Keeley Weeks, Tamara Perez, Hiram LeGrand, and Erika Robertson. 

Memorial Graveside Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2015 in Magnolia Park Cemetery. In recognition of TSgt Lunsford’s service to his country, the rendering of full military honors will conclude the service.

Jimmy Worley

Mr. James (Jimmy) Worley, age 80 of Cherokee County passed away at his residence Saturday October 31, 2015.

Mr. Worley is survived by one daughter & son-in-law, Donna & David Ryno, Buford, GA; two sisters, Brenda Kazimer, PA, Helen Tucci, Jacksonville, FL; step-sister, Geraldine Parker, Blaine Community; step-brother, William Jarrard, Dawsonville; two grandchildren, Ricky Matthew Crane and Daphne Lynn Crane.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, November 2, 2015 at the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Barnes officiating. Interment followed at Four Mile Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Jamie Parker, Mike Tucci, David Ryno, Matt Crane, Robert Fronebarger and Walter Jarrard, Jr.

The family requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Georgia Sheriff Youth Homes.

Faye Godfrey

Mrs. Faye Godfrey, age 78 of Talking Rock passed away at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital on Sunday, November 1, 2015.

Mrs. Godfrey is survived by her sons, Larry Godfrey and Jamie Godfrey, both of Talking Rock; daughters and sons-in-law, Glennis Ray, Talking Rock, Sherry Gibson, Talking Rock, Mary and Terry Wilson of Jasper and Vickie and James Waters of Ellijay; brothers, Robert Matthews of Canton, Phillip Matthews of Talking Rock; sister, Ellen Matthews of Talking Rock; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, November 4 at Town Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Timms officiating.  Interment followed at the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Steven Wilson, Lane Godfrey, Terry Wilson, James Waters, Jamie Godfrey and Nathaniel Sanford.

Cagle Funeral Home was honored to serve the Godfrey family.

Alma Bryant

Mrs. Alma L. Bryant, age 75 of Jasper, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, October 28, 2015.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Angelia Champion of Peachtree City, Tara & Timothy Thigpen of Griffin; brother, Bob Parker of Riverdale; sisters, Sue Parris of Jasper, Louis Parker of Dallas, GA; granddaughter, June Camis of Griffin and grandson, Patrick Camis of Griffin.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m.,  Friday, October 30, 2015 at the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Rev. Ben Mock officiating. Interment followed at Cann Cemetery located in Dallas, GA.  

Cagle Funeral Home was honored to serve the Bryant family.
