Jeff Blackwell

Mr. Jeff Blackwell, 49, of Ball Ground, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at his residence. 

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 30 at the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gene Hyde, Rev. Mike Byess and Mr. Ivan Duke officiating. Interment will follow in the Yellow Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.  

Jeff was a talented musician and songwriter. He loved entertaining people and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Blackwell and brother, Michael Blackwell; survivors include his mother, Jackie Blackwell of Ball Ground; son, Holden Blackwell of Ball Ground; nephew, Chris Blackwell and great-niece, Rylan Blackwell of Ball Ground; sister-in-law, Donna Blackwell Ray and special caregiver and friend, Donna Lynn Brown; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Lucille Parker

Mrs. Lucille S. Parker, age 93 of Jasper, passed away at the Brian Center in Canton on Tuesday, September 22, 2015.

She is survived by her brothers, Roy Stancil of Marietta and Jack Stancil of Jasper and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Parker. 

Graveside committal service, due to weather was held at Cagle Funeral Home on Friday, September 25, 2015 with Rev. Huey Holloway officiating.  Burial followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

Donald K. Brooks

August 23, 1955 – September 19, 2015


Donald K. Brooks, age 60, of Jasper passed away on September 19, 2015 at Canton Nursing Center. He is survived by his father, Robert F. Brooks of Jasper, Ga., brother and sister-in-law; Darryl and Cathy Brooks of Dunwoody, Ga., aunts; Grace Collum of Bradenton, Fl. and Ann Shronk of Philadelphia, Pa., Niece Shannon Dyal of Denver, Co. and several cousins also survive.

Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, from the chapel of Roper Funeral Home with burial at Lake Forest Memorial Park following the service. Arrangements were entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home & Crematory in Jasper.

David “Gene” Houge

Mr. David Eugene “Gene” Hogue, 72 of Fairmount, died Wednesday, September 23, 2015. He was born in Naples, FL on February 12, 1943, son of the late David and Eunice Fowler Hogue. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Sandra Sue Sams Hogue; his son, Douglas Lee Hogue in 2006; and a brother, Pepper Hogue.

Mr. Hogue was the owner and operator of Gene Hogue Tufting.

Survivors include his loving companion of 15 years, Doris Wilson; a son, Jeff Turner of Fairmount; daughters, April Turner of Lathemtown and Jessica Hedden of Calhoun; and grandchildren, Tucker, Kevin, Chloe, and Gage.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, September 30th at 7 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.

Ben “Tommy” Cox

September 18, 1940 – September 20, 2015


Mr. Ben Thomas Cox, age 75, of Jasper passed away Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Embracing Hospice House in Cumming.

Survivors include daughters, Tommy Sue Cox of Jasper, Christy Green of Canton, Daisha Padgett of Woodstock; sons, David Wayne Cox of Jasper, Benson Edward Cox of Canton, Larry Shane Cox of Canton; seventeen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m., Thursday, September 24 at Arbor Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Jimmy Gayton officiating.  

The family requests in lieu of flowers, make donations to Roper Funeral Home for funeral expenses or to family for headstone.

Arrangements were entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home & Crematory in Jasper.

Althea Godfrey

March 27, 1933 – September 22, 2015


Mrs. Althea Godfrey, age 82, of Jasper passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at the Brookdale Assisted Living Facility in Canton.

She is survived by her children: Mark and Karen Godfrey of Jasper, Stacey & Ronnie Fields of Jasper, Kristie and Scotty Moss of Jasper; grandchildren:  Matthew Godfrey, Brittany and Nate Gaddis, Jacob Fields, Jacey Moss, Jackson Moss; great-grandson:  Sawyer Hayes Gaddis; sisters and brothers-in-law: Sue and Ceburn Godfrey and Mary and Wesley Cook, all of Jasper.  Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held at  2 p.m. Thursday, September 24,  at Free Hope Baptist Church with Reverend Thomas Wheeler, Reverend Eric Mayo, and Reverend Grant Wade officiating.  Interment followed in the Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery.  

Pallbearers were Jake Fields, Matthew Godfrey, Nate Gaddis, Chad Presley, Larry Keener, and Nolan Wade.

The family accepted flowers or those who desire may make contributions to Free Hope Baptist Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home.


Robert “Rocky” Patterson, Jr. 

May 28, 1958 – September 26, 2015


Robert Terrell “Rocky” Patterson, Jr., age 57, of Jasper died Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.

He is survived by his mother, Rebecca Brock Patterson of Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Libby Patterson of Jasper; nieces, Maggie, Ansley, and Taylor Patterson, all of Jasper. Several other relatives and friends also survive.   He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Terrell Patterson, Sr.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, September 28 at Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Reverend Corey Rich officiating. Pallbearers were Jeff Patterson, Jabo Patterson, Danny Patterson, Doug Patterson, Drew Patterson, and Johnny Brock.

The family accepted flowers or contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society in Rocky’s name.

Arrangements were entrusted to Roper Funeral Home & Crematory.


Dorothy Wigington

Mrs. Dorothy Wigington, age 73 of Jasper, passed away at her daughter's residence in Jacobs Point on Wednesday, September 23. 2015.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Beth and David Turner and Mary Ann Griscom, all of Jasper; sisters and brother-in-law, Barbara and David Holden of Talking Rock, Carol Kime of Calhoun, Pam Chastain of Cartersville and 5 grandchildren, special friends, Delores Mullinax, Ella Mae Reece and Chuck Ray.

Funeral services were held Friday, September 25, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Rev. Corey Rich officiating.  Interment followed at Whitestone Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as Pallbearers were Brock Turner, Jordan Kendrick, Jonathan Wilson, Phillip Collins, Robert Kime and Travis Padgett.
