Ellis W. Hauser, 89, of Jasper died September 7, 2015.
Mr. Hauser was born in 1926 in Pfafftown, NC near Winston-Salem. He attended Brevard College where he met his wife and life-long companion, Connie. They were married just before he enlisted in the US Navy; he then served in the Pacific theater during WWII. Returning from the war, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Berea College and went on to earn a Masters from NC State University and PhD in plant physiology from Iowa State University. Mr. Hauser had a distinguished career as a research scientist with the USDA and was the author or co-author of over 20 scholarly research articles. His most noted research proposed an innovative planting method for peanuts that achieves significant weed abatement and reduced use of pesticides -- a technique that has since been widely adopted by farmers worldwide.
Mr. Hauser held many community leadership and volunteer roles, including serving on the administrative board of First United Methodist Church in Tifton, GA and as president of the Toastmaster’s Club. Above all, Mr. Hauser was known as a devoted husband and loving parent and grandparent. Mr. Hauser was preceded in death by his wife, Constance R. Mr. Eugene Talmage Godfrey, age 83 of Ellijay, Georgia passed from this life on Saturday, September 5, 2015. He was born August 14, 1932 to his late parents Preston and Rosa Wheeler Godfrey in Pickens County. Eugene was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church in Pickens county, served honorably in the US Army during the Korean War, and was a well known farmer.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Patsy Ponder Godfrey of the home in Ellijay; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy & Daryl Williams of Ball Ground, Lisa & Ricky Wingard of Ellijay; grandchildren Jason D. & Kim Williams, Kylie Williams, Nate Wingard; great grandchildren Andrew Hensley, Tyler Hensley, Preston Williams, Morgan Powell, Madison Powell, J.D. Williams; sisters Lois Wright of Ellijay; brothers, Bernard Godfrey of Jasper, Melvin (Marsha) Godfrey of Ellijay; sister-in-law & brother-in-law Althea Godfrey of Jasper, Jimmie Sue Godfrey of Talking Rock, Ralph Burgess, Vera (Clyde) Beal of Ellijay, Fred (Ruby) Ponder and Randall (Sharlene) Ponder of Ellijay.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday September 7th, 2015 from the Cross Roads Baptist Church located in Pickens County with Rev. Robert Allen, Rev. Mark Henson and Rev. Edwin Bishop officiating. A military graveside service followed in the Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites performed by the North GA Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Nate Wingard, Jason Williams, Preston Williams, Mark Godfrey John Penland, Luke Osborn and Randy Osborn.

Mrs. Barbara Parker Argueta, age 68 of Murray County, formerly of Pickens County, passed away at Gordon County Hospital on Tuesday, September 8, 2015.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, James Parker, Murray Co. and Keith and Tammy Parker, Murray Co.; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and William Simmons, Dalton; brothers, Billy Parker, Mark Parker, Johnny Parker, all of Jasper; sisters, Gene Parker, Marsha Jones, Tammy Parker, all of Jasper; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl & Fannie Parker; brother, Lee Parker and sister, Joby Colley.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 10 at the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers were Anthony Simmons, John Parker, Johnny Parker, Timbo Parker, Mark Parker, Horace Wofford, Shannon Bryan and Michael Colley. Honorary pallbearers were Tim Simmons and Chase Parker.

November 12, 1946 – September 13, 2015
Mary Sue Massey, age 68, of Jasper passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015 at her home. She was born November 12, 1946 to Madison and Effie Denson in Pickens County. She was retired from the US Postal Service.
Mary Sue is survived by her husband, Tommy Massey of Jasper; daughter, Melissa Massey of Pine Lake, Georgia; sister, Joan Anderson of Jasper; aunts and uncles, Gladys and Grady Cagle of Jasper, Jason and Glyndon Robinson of Jasper, Annie Chapman of Jasper, Ruth Gibson of Jasper; and special nephew, Kenny Anderson. Several other family members also survive.
She was preceded in death by daughter, Michelle Massey; sisters, Sarah Mulkey, Nell Denson, Brenda Denson; and brother, James Denson.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 16 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Corey Rich, Reverend Thomas Shipman, Reverend Grady Cagle, and Reverend Kenny Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery. Britt Massey, Barry Heath, Luke Copeland, Gary Copeland, Kenny Anderson, and Corey Eubanks will serve as pallbearers. The Class of 1964 will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Judy Brooks Connell, age 57, of Jasper, passed away September 5th, 2015 at her home following an extended illness.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Ray Connell, four daughters and sons-in-law: Debbie & Jason Milsap, Kathy & Billy Mewborn, Tammy & Jason Smith, Michelle & Mark Smalls, and one son, Raymond Connell. Twenty-eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service was held Monday, September 7th at her residence.

Ms. Clara Elaine Nichols age 68 of Ellijay (formerly of Jasper) passed away Wednesday, Sept 9, 2015 at her daughter's residence.
Survivors are one son, Teddy Nichols & Melody Hanlon, Ellijay; two daughters and son-in-law, Tammy Carter & Scottie Buchanan, Ellijay Amberly & Mike Pugh, Jasper; four grandchildren, Kristen & Brett Mullins, Miranda Carter & Matt Wright, Austin Carter & Leslie Evans and Lanie Pugh; three great-grandchildren, Hagen & Hallie Mullins and Zayne Carter.
Funeral services were held at 12 pm, Saturday, September 12 at the Trinity Tabernacle. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers were Mike Pugh, Austin Carter, Matthew Wright, Howard Streeter, Ellie Lee Nicholds and Danny Rymer.
