Charles Durrance
April 20, 1955 – June 1, 2015

    Mr. Charles Joseph Durrance, age 60, of Ball Ground passed away Monday, June 1, 2015 at Northside Hospital Cherokee. He was born April 20, 1955 in Anniston, Alabama to Cecile Jehle Durrance and the late Samuel Durrance. Charles practiced law in the Atlanta area for many years, most recently in Marietta.
    Charles is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Carolyn Durrance; his mother and step-father, Cecile and Gary Thurston; daughters and sons-in-law, Suzanne and Ronnie Deal, Jr. of Watkinsville, Georgia and Natalie and Jeremy Pope of Lexington, Kentucky; grandchildren, Emma Deal, Caroline Deal, Crosby Pope; sisters, Maria Aspinwall, Joanie Jones, Margaret Ostrowski; brothers, Sam Durrance, Matt Durrance, Joe Durrance, Steve Durrance; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
    The funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 5, 2015 at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church with Father Charles Byrd officiating.  Interment followed at Lake Forest Memorial Park.
    The family accepted flowers or memorial contributions in Charles’ name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
    Arrangements have been entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory. 

Rev. Gerald Mitton

    Rev. Gerald Alexander Mitton, 87 of Jefferson, GA, went home to be with His Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 14, 2015. Rev. Mitton is better known to most as “Preacher Mitton”. He was born on September 17, 1927, in Wheaton Settlement near Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada to the late Frank and Miriam Mitton. He was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Jefferson, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Bagwell Mitton; his parents, Frank and Miriam Mitton; his brother, Vernon Mitton; his sister, Myrtle Mitton Seaman; two granddaughters, Holly Fouche and Tiffany Taylor; and a grandson, Alexander “Alex” Mitton.  Preacher Mitton graduated from Tennessee Temple Bible College. He received an honorary Doctorate’s Degree from the Florida Bible College. Preacher Mitton pastored his first church, Maple Springs Baptist Church in Dayton, Tennessee while attending Bible College. He came to be the Pastor of Faith Baptist Church of Jefferson, GA in January, 1961 until October, 2003. 
    Preacher Mitton faithfully preached the Word of God and shared God’s love with those he came in contact with on a daily basis.
    He is survived by two daughters, Miriam Mitton Taylor and husband, Rev. Roger Taylor of Morgantown, KY; Susan Mitton Fouche and husband, David Fouche of Jefferson, GA; and a son, Gerald “Mark” Mitton and wife, Amy Lord Mitton of Jasper; seven grandchildren: Carol Taylor; Tyler Mitton and wife, Ashley; Lindsay Mitton Rice and husband Caleb; Samuel and Doug Fouche, Adam and Amy Fouche, and five great-grandchildren: Damon, Myles, and Addyson Yarnell; Carson and Rush Mitton.
    The funeral service was held on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the Faith Baptist Church in Jefferson with Rev. Pat Lawrence and Rev. Terry Wofford officiating. The burial followed in the Woodbine Cemetery in Jefferson and with the committal officiated by Dr. Bill Carpenter. Honored as pallbearers are Jimmy Benton, Walker Campbell, Derrell Crowe, Jake Murphy, Mike Nabors, Eric Shelton and Buck Tolbert. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Carpenter, Keith Cudd, Dean Hamby, Ronnie Healan, Fred Kindheart, Jack Lawson, Jessie Mealor, Alex Moon and Kevin Page.

Allie McTaggart

    Mrs. Allie Sue McTaggart, age 92 of Jasper passed away June 5, 2015 in Portland, OR.
    She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Diane & Charlie Herman of Granite Falls, NC and Connie Hitt & Sarah McLellan of Portland, OR and 1 grandson, Christopher Herman.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Arvil McTaggart and daughters, Pam Hitt and Deborah Hitt Strickland.
    A memorial service was held Tuesday, June 9 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Rev. Buddy Smith officiating.  Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
    The family request in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Cares Food Bank or Pickens County Animal Rescue.

Paxton McEntyre

    Infant Paxton James McEntyre passed away June 2, 2015 in Elgin, OK.
    Paxton is survived by his parents, Cheyenne and Chance McEntyre, Jasper; grandparents, Jake & Tracey Reppert, Jasper, Byran & Cathy Peters, Robyn McEntyre & Scott West, Johnny McEntyre and Laurie McEntyre of Tate; great-grandparents, Linda Gunton, Wyoming, Earlene & Charles Chapman and Bradford McEntyre.
    Funeral services were held Saturday, June 6 at Jasper United Methodist Church with Revs. Steven Sheffield and Scott Eugene Lawson officiating.  Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers were Connor McEntyre, Jason Anderson, Daniel Richardson and Caleb Morgan.

Lynn Gregory

    Lynn Gregory, 73, of Ball Ground passed away Friday June 5, 2015 at his residence following a short illness.
    Born January 12, 1942 in Walterboro, South Carolina to the late Phillip and Lucille Gregory, he lived in Florida and North Carolina before moving to this area several years ago. Lynn attended the University of Alabama and owned and operated several businesses.  He was also preceded in death by a sister, Irene Avant.
    Surviving are his wife, DeeAnna Gregory, Ball Ground; son and daughter in law, Jeff and Kelly Gregory, Lynchburg, VA; daughter and son in law, Tracy and Bill Louder, Virginia; stepdaughter and son in law, Storm and Jason Hall, Cumming; and several grandchildren.
    At his request, Mr. Gregory was cremated and no services are planned at this time.
