Mrs. Sheila Reynolds, age 48 of Ball Ground, passed away Friday, May 8, 2015 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Reynolds; mother, Helen Nicholson, Jasper, mother-in-law, Lorene Reynolds, Ball Ground; 2 sons & daughter-in-law, Justin Reynolds, Ball Ground and Joey & Virginia Reynolds, Forsyth County; 1 daughter, Athena Reynolds, Ball Ground; 1 brother & sister-in-law, James & Nan Nicholson, Jasper; 2 grandchildren, Joseph & Jewell Reynolds and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was at 11 a.m. Monday, May 11 at the chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Boling officiating with the interment following at Mica Baptist Church Cemetery.

Van Iden Zeiler, Jr.
Van Iden Zeiler, Jr., passed away May 12, 2015 at the age of 75. Mr. Zeiler had been a resident of Big Canoe, GA for the past 17 years and before that, he lived in Sandy Springs for more than 20 years.
Mr. Zeiler grew up in Leesburg, VA and attended Saint James School in MD. He then attended Georgia Tech and the University of Virginia, graduating from the McIntire School of Commerce at UVA in 1962.
Mr. Zeiler married Rita Peters of Smith Center, KS in 1964. Mr. and Mrs. Zeiler moved to Sandy Springs in 1977. Mr. Zeiler had a long career in the insurance industry. He worked for Chubb & Son for many years before coming to Atlanta where he was vice-president at Duncan Peek/Sedgwick/Marsh & McLennan until he retired and moved to Big Canoe. While he lived in Atlanta, Mr. Zeiler was very involved in the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts, serving as Scoutmaster, den leader and as a trainer of Girl Scout leaders. He also enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, camping, and reading.
Mr. Zeiler was very involved in the Big Canoe and Pickens County communities, participating in real estate development, including the development of Cove Lake and other properties. He volunteered with the Big Canoe Emergency Response Team and Big Canoe Animal Rescue. For several years he also assisted low- to moderate-income households with their tax preparation through the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program. As a member of Leadership Big Canoe, Mr. Zeiler spearheaded an initiative to convert all of the addresses of residents within Big Canoe to numbers that could be recognized by the local 911 system. Mr. Zeiler enjoyed golfing, woodworking, spending time with his friends and sharing his love of the outdoors with his three granddaughters.
Mr. Zeiler is survived by his wife, Rita Peters Zeiler, his children Ashley Zeiler Hager (Philip) and Van Iden Zeiler, III (Victoria Stilwell) and his grandchildren Jaquelin Hager, Lucy Hager and Alexandra Zeiler. He is also survived by his brother Jay Dean Zeiler (Estelle) of Upperville, VA and sister Jeffrey Zeiler Dearing of New York City.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 19 at 4:00 pm at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Family, 100 Griffith Road, Jasper, GA 30143, reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Big Canoe Volunteer Fire Dept. or Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Center, Jasper, GA.
Mrs. Bettye Ledbetter, age 77, of Canton, GA, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2015 surrounded by her family.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law Donna Grant of Canton, Rhonda and Jeff Stancil of Nelson, and son Victor Ledbetter of Trion, GA; sister and brother-in-law Marjorie and Harold Woodall of Canton; grandchildren, Darla Edge, Canton, Valerie Stancil Boehm and husband Marc Boehm, Clark Stancil, and Vanessa Stancil, all of Nelson.
Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, Dilmus and Pearl Reinhardt, her husband Donald Ledbetter, Canton, and son-in-law Tony Grant of Jasper.
As a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and community volunteer, Bettye embodied a spirit of boundless generosity, simple kindness, and an undying compassion for the downtrodden.
She touched countless lives in a life lived in service to others. Her funeral service was held Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at the Chapel of the Darby Funeral Home in Canton, with Rev. Bobby Morris and Rev. Mike Ware officiating.
The interment took place in the Cherokee Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Marc Boehm, Cleve Hill, Seth Hill, Eric Reinhardt, Josey Reinhardt, Dennis Woodall, Ashley Taylor, and David Edge.

Barbara L. Ferguson, age 74, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Monday, May 11, 2015 at her home after a courageous fight with breast cancer. Barbara was born August 24, 1940 to the late John and Regina Lacz in Irvington, New Jersey. She married Robert L. Ferguson.
She is survived by brothers, John Lacz of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Fred and Jean Lacz of Wellington, FL; nieces and nephews, John Lacz of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Theresa Bergens of West Palm Beach, FL, Sandra and Del Benzenhafer of Lighthouse Point, FL; grand-nieces and nephews, Ronald Oelerich of West Palm Beach, FL, Del Benzenhafer, III of Lighthouse Point, FL, Fred Benzenhafer of Lighthouse Point, FL, Suzanne Benzenhafer of Lighthouse Point, FL, Melanie Bergens of West Palm Beach, FL, and Allen Benzenhafer of Lighthouse Point, FL. Also surviving are Barbara’s tried and true friends that were there with her throughout her journey: Sherry Mishkin, Joann Adams, Pansy Gross, Terry Spriggs, Elaine Judge, Linda and Mario Lizaso, Marilyn Foshee, Mary Ann and Fred Walsh, Carol Johnson, and Jane Marocco.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon, Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Our Lady of the Mountains with Father John Conway from St. Anthony’s Parish in Blue Ridge officiating. Interment will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 19 at Georgia National Cemetery.

Kenneth Marvin Burton, age 71 of Jasper, GA passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Pruitt Healthcare in Jasper.
Kenneth was born January 8, 1944 in Pickens County.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years; Bonnie Burton, of Jasper, sons and daughters-in-law; Robert and Tina Burton, of Jasper, Ronald and Brenda Burton, of Jasper, sister and brother-in-law; Ruth and Terry Merritt, of Blairsville, brother; Johnny Burton, of Jasper, grandchildren; Jessica Burton, of Ohio, Justin Burton, of Jasper, Rebekah Dancey, of Jasper, Lillie Burton, of Jasper, several other family and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Truman and Geneva Burton, and brother; Charles Burton.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00pm Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Unity Christian Church in Ludville with Rev. Glenn Sims and Rev. Ben Mock officiating. Interment will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.

Larry Leslie Pearson
Rev. Larry Leslie Pearson, age 73, of Monticello, died Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Jasper Memorial Hospital in Monticello.
Rev. Larry Pearson was born in Tate, Georgia, to the late Olie Pearson and Pauline Boling Pearson. He was a graduate of Reinhardt College and received his Masters of Divinity from Emory University Candler School of Theology. He served in the Army National Guard.
He entered the ministry in 1978, and served on numerous appointments which included the Monticello First United Methodist Church and Chatsworth First United Methodist Church. After retiring from Chatsworth First United Methodist Church in 2008, he returned to Monticello.
After returning to Monticello, he continued his ministry in a part-time capacity at the England Chapel United Methodist Church in Jackson.
Rev. Larry Pearson was active in the local community and served on several committees including a term as president of the Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed volunteering his services with the Jasper County Chamber of Commerce and was active in his daughter’s school activities. He served as Chaplain for the Jasper County High School Hurricanes.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bixie Weems Pearson only six months ago.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beatrice Marion and Dominick Rinaldi of Monticello; granddaughter, Elizabeth Grace Rinaldi; brothers, Michael Pearson and Tim Pearson of Jasper; and niece, Salena Roland of Jasper.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, May 18, 2015, at the Monticello First United Methodist Church in Monticello. Interment will be held in West View Cemetery in Monticello. Rev. Larry Caywood and Rev. Stephen Soulen will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M., Monday, May 18, 2015, prior to the service, at the Monticello First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Annette Cowart, age 72, of Ball Ground passed away Monday, May 4, 2015 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper. She was born on July 31, 1942 to Aubrey Herbert and Ollie Mae Carter in Winter Haven, Florida.
Mrs. Cowart is survived by sons, Tim Poole of Jasper, Terry Poole of Alabama; daughters, Theresa Pierce of Ball Ground, Tammy Wells of Finger, TN; brother, Richard Carter of Jasper, Larry Carter of Jasper; sister, Debra Bryant; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews and other family members also survive.
Funeral services will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening, May 7, 2015, in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend John Reale officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and until the funeral hour on Thursday.

Mrs. Shirley Goode, age 65 of Steve Tate Rd Marble Hill, passed away at Embracing Hospice in Cumming early Thursday morning Mary 14, 2015.
She is survived by her husband, Huey Goode of Steve Tate Rd Marble Hill; sons & daughters-in-law, Bobby and Mindy Goode of Jasper, Brian & Andrea Goode of Jasper; daughters & son-in-law, Charlene Goode of Dawson County, Melissa Goode and Bill Tinsley of Dawson County, 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 16 at the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Farrist officiating. Mrs. Adel McArthur Roper age 68 of Ball Ground died Friday May 15, 2015.
Mrs. Roper was born February 1, 1947 in Pickens County the daughter of the late Decatur and Montree Coffey McArthur. She worked in housekeeping at Big Canoe and was a member of the Yellow Creek Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, grandson Bryce Roper and several siblings.
Survivors include Husband: Frank Roper, Son: Frankie Dean Roper, Marble Hill, Daughter: Dawn Michelle Smith, Ball Ground, grandchildren, Brittany Hensley, Emerald Goble, Amber Smith, great grandchildren, Braylee Hensley, Elly Hensley, Trystan Goble, Toccoa Dawn Goble, Brothers: Fariest and Jack McArthur, Talking Rock, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services was held Monday May 18, 2015 at 2:00pm from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Allen and Rev. Huey Holloway officiating. Music was by Amanda Martin. Mrs. Brenda Diane Pitts age 56 of Acworth, GA died Thursday May 14, 2015.
Mrs. Pitts was born February 28, 1959 in Canton, GA, daughter of the late, Ronald and Betty Wright Jarrett. She graduated from Cherokee High School and worked in retail. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Tony Jarrett.

Larry Winston Childers, age 71, passed away Tuesday morning, May 12, 2015 at Northside Cherokee Hospital in Canton, Georgia.
He is preceded in death by parents Otis and Virginia Childers. Brothers, Hugh and Kenny Childers. Sister, Shelby Childers Wood.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Elisha and Richard Burrell. Daughters Tracy C. Maddox and Stephanie Childers.
Four grandchildren Ryker, Reagan, Bryson and Grace.
Others family members also survive.
With Navy honors, he was laid to rest at Ga. National Cemetery, Canton, Ga.

Mrs. Frances Godfrey Burgess age 78 of Ellijay died Saturday May 16, 2015.
Mrs. Burgess was born April 19, 1937 in Pickens County the daughter of the late Preston and Rosa Wheeler Godfrey. She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Damascus Church. She is preceded in death by parents, daughter; Loretta Lynn Burgess, granddaughter; Jessica Dana Ellis, brothers; Leon Truman, Randall and Kenneth Godfrey. Step-grandson; Robert Aaron Batten, great grandson; Curtis Ross.
Survivors include: Husband; Ralph Burgess of 61 years, sons and daughter-in-law: Nathan and Susan Burgess Jasper, Earl and Trish Burgess, Cherry log, Daughters and sons –in-law: Darlene and Danny Ellis, Mary Ellen Vick and Scotty Weaver all of Ellijay, Charlene and Ken Batten, Waleska, Brothers: Gene and Melvin Godfrey both of Ellijay, Bernard Godfrey, Jasper, sisters: Lois Wright, Edith Chastain both of Ellijay 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren 6 step-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 5:00pm from the Flat Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Wallace Parks, Rev. Glen Arnold and Rev. Tommy Sanford, prayer by Rev. Matt Godfrey officiating. Music was by Emmett and Rosa Lee Burgess. Pallbearers were: Justin Ellis, Brandon Ellis, Elijah Reece, Isaac Vick, Jordan Hyde, Calvin Evans and Earl Burgess.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
