John Barrett

May 3, 2015

Mr. John Sidney Barrett, age 67 of Jasper, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015 at his residence. He was born on July 21, 1947 to the late Homer and Bertha Barrett in Bainbridge, GA. He was a proud member of the Woodmen of the World Society. 

Mr. Barrett is survived by his wife, Karen Barrett of Jasper; daughters & son-in-law, Keri & Cole Dorsey of Jasper, Heather Barrett of Jasper; son, Dustin Barrett of Jasper; grandchildren, Lucas Dorsey of Jasper and Logan Dorsey of Jasper; sister-in-law, Kimberly Duren of Shelby, N.C.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on May 5, 2015 at the chapel of Roper Funeral Home. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Krystal Weatherhead

September 25, 1989 – 

May 1, 2015

Krystal D. Weatherhead, age 25, of Tampa, Florida (formerly of Jasper) passed away May 1, 2015 as a result of an automobile accident.

Krystal is survived by her mother, Natalie Hart of Waleska; father, Ron Weatherhead, Sr. of Ellijay; brother, Ron Weatherhead, Jr. of Waleska; fiancé, Kevin Qualls of Douglasville; grandparents, Bill and Beverly Juroff of Waverly Hall; aunt and uncle, Tami and Scott Davis of Waverly Hall; aunt and uncle, Bill and Katherine Hart of Charlotte, NC; and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ava A. Qualls.

A memorial service was held  Saturday, May 9 at the chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Donald Wolfgang officiating. 

Arrangements were entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home & Crematory of Jasper.

Mike Dean

Mike Dean, age 69, of Ball Ground passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Northside Hospital Cherokee. 

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., on Wednesday, May 13, from the chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Wheeler, and Rev. Greg Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by parents Surble & Irene Dean.

Survivors include his wife,  Charlotte Dean of Ball Ground; Sons, David (Doris) Dean and Brian (Amy) Stamey of Ball Ground; Brothers, Kenneth (Juanita) Dean of Ball Ground, Don (Juanita) Dean of California and Bob (Wanda) Dean of Marietta; Sister, Mary Faye Porter of Lawrenceville; Grandchildren, Denise Dean, Owen Stamey and Izzy Stamey; Great Grandchild Colton James Dean.

Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Dorothy Ridings

Mrs. Dorthy Ridings, age 57 of Jasper passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.

She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Bobby & Cathy DeBord, Dawsonville; daughters & son-in-law, Jennifer Goss, Jasper and Casey & Billy Waters, Jasper; brothers & sisters-in-law, Johnny & Patricia Denny, Jasper, Steve & Willene Denney, Canton and Richard & Robin Denney, Savannah; sister & brother-in-law, Juanita & Ramon Cook, Jasper; seven grandchildren, Haleigh & Lucas Buttrum, Aliceson & Cody DeBord, William Waters, Olivia & Billy Tamasi; one great-grandchild, Blakely Tamasi and several nieces & nephews.   Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Darriel Ridings.

Visitation at Cagle Funeral Home, Wednesday, May 13 from noon until the service hour.  Services are 4 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Faulkner & Rev. Mike Harris officiating. 

Interment of the cremains at Sunrise Memorial Garden.

Sheila Reynolds

Mrs. Sheila Reynolds, age 48 of Ball Ground, passed away Friday, May 8, 2015 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Reynolds; mother, Helen Nicholson, Jasper; mother-in-law, Lorene Reynolds, Ball Ground; two sons & daughters-in-law, Justin Reynolds, Ball Ground and Joey & Virginia Reynolds, Forsyth County; one daughter, one brother & sister-in-law, James & Nan Nicholson, Jasper; two grandchildren, Joseph & Jewell Reynolds and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held  Monday, May 11 at the chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Boling officiating. Interment followed at Mica Baptist Church Cemetery.  

Pallbearers, both active and honorary, were J.J. Cantrell, Josh Nicholson, Frankie Cantrell, Joey Reynolds, Jason Gray, Mathew Reynolds, Nathan Reynolds, Dusty Reynolds, Jessie Voyles, C.L. Reynolds, Kevin Duckett, Wayne Neighbors, Trevor Griffith.  

The family accepted flowers but prefers donations to Cagle Funeral Home to help with the funeral expenses.

Aris Reed

March 2, 1950 – 

May 11, 2015

Mrs. Aris Reed, age 65, of Fairmount passed away Monday, May 11, 2015 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper. Mrs. Reed was born March 2, 1950 to the late Ell and Cleo Scott Stone in Pickens County.  

Aris is survived by husband, Billy Reed of Fairmount; daughter, Tina Reed of Jasper; grandchildren, Jessie Angel, Cierra Hett; great-grandchild, Owen Hett; sisters, Ollie Hightower, Geneva Fountain, Myrtice Swafford, Ruthelle Cornette, Faye Young, Oris Hendricks; brothers, William Stone and Larry Stone.  Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by son, Mitchell Reed; brothers, Homer Stone, Vernon Stone, Gene Stone; sisters, Edith Turner and Nellie Chastain.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 14 at the chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Bobby Timms and Reverend Randall Chastain officiating. Interment will follow at Holmes Cemetery.   Serving as pallbearers are Luis Palacios, Guy Mulkey, Todd Stone, Brian Perry, Tony Fountain, and James Hightower.

The family will receive friends at Roper Funeral Home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m.

Kathryn Wait

Kathryn Stone Wait was born on February 1, 1921 to Henry G. Stone and Mamie N. Stone.  She passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2015.  She was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, F.E. (Ed) Wait. She and Ed were Founding Members of University Heights United Methodist Church in Decatur. 

Kathy was a wonderful homemaker who was known for her beautiful handwork in crocheting, knitting and sewing as well as for her outstanding baking abilities. She was a devoted volunteer and played a positive role in her daughter Sheila’s childhood activities. Her thoughtfulness knew no bounds as she always put others first.  Her family will always remember her legacy of love, kindness, and importance of family. She will never be forgotten.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Wait Thompson (Colin Thompson); grandsons, Chris Thompson (Stephanie Thompson) and Stephen Thompson (Melissa Thompson); great-grandchildren, Owen and Emma Thompson; her sister, Jewell Coker; her nephews, Ron Coker, Ryan Coker, Roy Moore; her niece, Nancy Joines; and several great nephews and great nieces.  

Visitation will take place at Roper Funeral Home on May 13 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.  A graveside service will be held on May 14 at 1 p.m at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker, Georgia.  Rev. Stacey Rushing will officiate.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University Heights United Methodist Church or the Bent Tree Foundation.
