Each year local veteran groups place large white crosses at the Memorial Garden across from McDonalds in advance of Memorial Day. These crosses are inscribed with the names of Pickens County military personnel who have given their lives in service to our country.
This year those crosses were in need of some repair. Working through the local Marine Corps League, the Girl Scouts of Pickens County stepped up for a couple days of painting and stenciling to get these crosses ready for this year’s ceremony.
While it was a lot of work, these girls really enjoyed their community service and it has given many of them a greater appreciation of our military, and the sacrifice they may be called to make, than they had before. We hope you will join us in honoring all our fallen service men and women this Memorial Day.
